It really did feel like years since James had finally decided to stop pacing the front hall and had decided to take a seat in the living room couch in order to wait for his wife and daughter to get home. He'd even turned on the television in order to provide a suitable alibi, though he doubted the trick would work well on Lily - James never did watch much TV without her and certainly never when he was tense.
It's been almost four hours, what could they possibly be doing? The jealousy phase had long ago melted away and was now rapidly turning into fear that something might have happened. Having Lily seen with Severus Snape by someone dangerous in times like these couldn't possibly be a good idea. James was really starting to hate himself for having banned the slimy git from the house until now. What could possibly be more important than Lily and Lucy's safety? He almost jumped when the front door opened and was off his seat and into the hall in a flash.
