Just for safe-keeping.
For a RP on GJ a loooong time ago ( I believe it was called one-destiny-rpg ) I wrote an application. I'm sticking it here for safekeeping, just in case anything happens to the file I've got it in. It was a really good app, so I don't want to lose it. It was a Kingdom Hearts RP, and included bits about explaining why Kuja was alive according to the roleplay toward the end (and the RP sample).
( ... the member )The original info in this section of the app is no longer relevant. I just need the Kuja bits anyway.
( ... the character )
name :: Kuja
series :: Final Fantasy IX
character age :: 25
character sexuality :: Kuja loves himself. Period.
character personality :: The antagonist of Final Fantasy IX, Kuja is obsessed with power... and theatre. With a strong adoration for famous works of theatrical art (like "I Want to Be Your Canary" by Lord Avon), Kuja often times derives his personality from the stereotypical or traditional villain-- he monologues, he is completely obsessed with himself, he is entirely ambitious when it comes to gaining power, and he can be ruthlessly cruel. He has his own flare, however, so he is not to be confused with an idiotic common criminal-- he derives many of his plans from simple amusement on his part, and he actually has a reason to be this way. Kuja is not simply evil for the sake of being evil-- but details on that will be included in the little history section. Kuja detests any form of attempted control over him and is extremely narcissistic. The "literal" is something very uncommon for him to use, and even when he does he uses it in such a way that one would thing he was a cat playing with a mouse. He's also extremely effeminate, clothing-wise, gesture-wise, and even in personality. These actions are symbolic of his extreme narcissism and his strong want to keep his beauty in tact and very well known to anyone he might come across. All this, along with a sadistic streak and a strong will to not die alone create the very amusing and beautifully manipulative personality that Kuja flaunts.

basic character history* :: One of his original names was the "Angel of Death," given to him by Garland, a man who had planned on fast-forwarding the cycle of souls on Gaia by sending in a Genome that he had created. This Genome had been meant to be superior in everyway, and had been the one genome granted with a soul. Kuja was this Genome, but Garland had made the fatal mistake of giving Kuja a soul with a will of its own.
From the get-go, Kuja had planned on following Garland's orders until the opportune moment, then relieving Garland of his life and taking over from there. Garland, unfortunately, discovered this and placed a time limit on Kuja's lifespan while at the same time creating Zidane Tribal to replace him. Kuja would not stand for this, having festered an extreme jealousy of Zidane, and stole him away only to leave him in Lindblum before returning to his post as Gaia's death-bringer.
Kuja was not through at that point, of course, as he still had many plans unfulfilled. Queen Brahne, of Alexandria, presented a most excellent way to kick off his plans. What was the best way to destroy millions of people? Have those people kill themselves, of course. And it was entirely possible with just a little nudge and caress of Brahne's greed by offering her ultimate power with the proffer of Black Mages and Black Waltzes.
Queen Brahne was not the only toy that Kuja had found, however. The kingdom's princess had a fantastic ability to summon eidolons. Using Brahne as a tool, he manipulated her into believing that she could get even more power by extracting these eidolons from Garnet in order to gain power herself.
The power, however, would not remain with Brahne-- Kuja had known from the very beginning that she would attempt to betray him, and as such had already prepared the Invincible to seize control of the powerful Bahamut and in the fight receiving little more than a scratch. That scratch was more than enough to make him respect the power of Bahamut, however, as he knew his own powers. After conquering Bahamut, Kuja attempted to do the same thing with Alexander, a legendary eidolon that was said to lay in wait as the protector of Alexandria. He had almost gotten control of Alexander as well, but Garland had resurfaced into the picture and took control of the Invicincible, released Bahamut, and destroyed Alexander (and Alexandria with it).
His new plot was to retrieve the Gulug Strone from Oeilvert, which he could not accomplish on his own, being a magic user in a place that magic could not be used. As such, Kuja simply offered a bit of incentive to force Zidane to do it for him-- he captured his friends and threatened to kill them within a certain time limit (of course, he lied about the time limit since he was planning to kill them anyway). Zidane got the gulug stone, and due to a little interference from Cid his friends were safe. Kuja captured Eiko Carol and attempted to extract her eidolons, but her moogle entered trance and gave Kuja the idea for his ultimate plan: Trance.
Trance increased the power of anything, and Kuja would not go without it. Intense emotion was what caused this, as Kuja had seen from Zidane's party, and absorbed the souls that had been collected in the Invincible in order to launch an attack against Zidane, who defeated him and thrust him into that strong emotional state that he needed in order to fall into the Trance state. After going into Trance, Kuja flaunted his ability to use the powerful Ultima spell, defeating Zidane's party in the process and supposedly killing Garland.
It was after his "death" of course, that Garland revealed that Kuja was going to die soon anyway. With the prospect of death ahead of him, with the lack of any choice for his own fate, and with the insults that had been given to him by Garland and many others on his plate, any logical thought he'd had in regards to what he was planning to do with the world had been swept from his mind: He was going to die, just like the soulless dolls (black mages) he'd created.
"...I won't let it happen. I won't... I won't let this world exist without me!"
"I'm going to die anyway. I won't have to be afraid anymore. But I'm not going to die alone."
It was with that in mind that Kuja had risen the Iifa Tree, creating a world called Memoria, with the idea to completely decimate all life on Gaia by destroying the source of the universe and life-- the crystal. Before he could unfold his plan, however, Zidane and his party had a touching scene in which they combined powers to defeat Kuja but at the same time waking Necron.
Kuja watched as Zidane and his party defeated Necron, and finally realized that life was meant to exist-- whether it was his, or another's, and that it was the right thing to do to help others live, rather than destroy them. After Necron was defeated, Memoria and the Iifa Tree freaked out and Kuja used the last of his powers to save Zidane and his party. Zidane went after him, though, refusing to let his brother die alone. Kuja told him to go, but he would not, saying that he might have done the same thing if he were in Kuja's situation. Kuja expressed his final regrets at having not done more to realize the true purpose of life.
AND NOW. A brief explanation as to why in the hell Kuja is back!
Kuja, having been a Genome, was created in the first place. Souls do not simply dissipate in Gaia, they return to the Iifa Tree. Kuja "died" in the Iifa Tree, and was entirely engulfed by it. It is possible that the Iifa Tree, after seeing his sudden change of heart and desire to live, gave him one last chance. The chance to redeem himself and the chance to no longer regret having attempted to destroy Gaia and everyone in it. The chance to meet his brother, get along with his brother, and live life to its fullest.
It didn't go exactly as planned, however, and Kuja had lost select memories-- particularly the ones of his "final" few days. Without this resolve to live and let others live, his life was tossed back into the chaos of an obsession with power and a need to prove his worth to the world-- or now, worlds as he knew it. Kuja had been suddenly transported to another place upon his rebirth, since the worlds were at the time in the midst of a fantastic change. The Mist had pulled him into the darkness (the darkness having more than likely been the cause for his selective amnesia) and spit him back out in another world-- a world he did not yet know, but was definitely not his Gaia.
sample roleplay post ::
Death was only the beginning. That was what Kuja had come to understand. Though his body had died-- or he'd thought it had-- his mind was still in tact to the best of his knowledge (and quite frankly, his knowledge was better than just about anyone else's if he did say so himself). What had happened, how he had died, he couldn't remember. But it didn't matter. That was entirely a frivolous matter now-- he was alive, and he wasn't dying any time soon. Oh, how Garland would love to see this! His precious Genome, all grown up, having escaped death and quite possibly having achieved immortality.
Well, perhaps not immortality. It was a nice dream, but certainly not one that Kuja was stupid enough to try to follow through with just yet. He still had things to do-- many things. If only he could move his body. Being reborn had its effects on the physical being. It didn't work too well, but it was slowly beginning to come back into contract with his being. The threads that held his soul to his body were slowly being re-woven, and with it the memories of a world in chaos, a world he planned to conquer and all the people in it-- his lovely morons, his sweet, stupid brother, and the entire planet of Gaia would be his, not Garland's.
He opened an eye. His vision was blurry, but focusing. Slowly, but it was still focusing. As soon as he could see properly, Kuja had decided that this was no where he had been in Gaia. Perhaps he had truly died? This certainly didn't look like a place of judgment. It simply seemed like a stony, lonesome little town. He'd been to every place there was to see in Gaia at one time or another-- had he been gone for that long?
No. No, it couldn't be Gaia. But he certainly wasn't dead. His body was sore, and that meant that his soul was with his body. He was alive, that much was for sure. It hurt, but he was alive. The tailed man moved as best as he could, propping himself up against the wall. He certainly felt like he'd died at least once, and when he'd glanced over himself he had the horror of discovering that his favorite outfit had been torn up into more pieces than he should have liked. It still covered the vital parts, but it was clear he would be needing new attire sometime in the near future.
Kuja tried to stand up, but his body had apparently not healed itself entirely yet. He didn't have enough energy to cast a regenerative spell of any sort, and he hated being vulnerable like this. If anyone came, it would only be beneficial if they were a foolish moron who would take him in-- he loved morons. They were stupid enough to save anyone without contemplating the possible consequences in the future. A soft groan formed in the back of his throat and he shut his eyes again. He would not die here from the pain. Someone would find him, and he would repay them graciously, learn everything he could about where he was, learn everything he could about them, and slowly begin to use them to his own design. When the time came, he would dispose of them. And that would be that. Simple, yet beautiful. Oh, this game would indeed be fun.
