Christmas had been spent mostly alone, so Harry was looking forward to Jack visiting the day after. Kreacher had taught him a basic recipe for chocolate chip biscuits, so a fresh plate of them sat on the coffee table in the sitting room. They were a bit lopsided but would still serve their purpose.
Harry stood silently at the window, a hot cup of tea cradled between his hands. He allowed it to fog up his glasses as he took tiny sips, not really looking at anything to really need them anyway. Christmas had never been a big deal when he was growing up. It was just a day where he had to work harder to make sure his aunt, uncle and cousin had a nice time. He hadn't known a thing about his parents then, hadn't had any friends or loved ones. He hadn't had a clue what he was missing.
It seemed the more he had, the more he missed what he'd lost. The holidays seemed to get lonelier every year, his heart longing to spend that time with the people he'd lost. There were times when he felt like he was thrown back in time, standing in front of his parents' graves wanting nothing more than to be sleeping peacefully beneath the snow with them. They were usually few and far between, but sometimes more frequent during the holidays.
Harry didn't realise someone was at the door until it had rang several times, breaking him out of his daze. He frowned, realising that a few stray tears had managed to work their way down his cheeks. He wiped them away, annoyed at himself, and set his cup of tea down on the coffee table before making his way out to the main hall, opening the door.
"Happy Christmas," He greeted the taller wizard, a slow smile spreading across his face as he leaned up for a kiss. He pulled away sooner than he would have liked, instead wrapping his arms around Jack's waist for a tight hug. When he released the artist, he was grinning sheepishly. "Hope it was a good one?"
