Caine was on top of the moon about his day, enough so that sleep wasn't seeming like an option. Percy had lost count of the amount of presents the little boy had received, between Grandmum and Uncle Kirley and Percy's Mum and Oliver and he and Meg, of course. Growing up in a family of seven children, Percy was completely gobsmacked by the sheer amount of things for one little boy, but he also wouldn't have denied Caine any of it. Right now Caine was curled up on the sofa, holding a plush dog (from Percy, a nod to the puppy request), a pair of spiderman boots on his feet and immersed looking through a picture book of Go Broom Go.
It would have been peaceful except that Percy Weasley was a terrible coward. All day he'd had Meghan's other gift tucked in his pocket, waiting for the perfect moment, but, with the paper tearing, and going to see her family, and then going to Christmas Tea with his family, and more paper tearing, and then coming back to find Daisy had eaten the Christmas Cake off the table and sicked up all over Percy's new book shelf from Oliver, it had been a pretty eventful day.
So now they were sitting in front of the fire, Meg tucked against his side in the big chair while Daisy (who did not look at all the worse for wear) and Caine took over the couch, while the wireless played music in the background, the remnants of pulled Christmas crackers around them (Percy's had contained a Pirate hat, which he was wearing on the back of his head because it was a bit too small.)
"You're certain we have to go to your mum's for Boxing Day Lunch?" he murmured.
