Who: DeWitt, Ezra, and Ro (aaand NPC Diaspora)
When: Late afternoon
Where: new Diaspora camp
Warnings: Language, innuendo, God knows what else to come

It had been a long day for Ro. Moving camp was routine, but always sort of a pain in the ass to her mind. It was a lot of dull work, and she'd never been overly fond of having to drive her RV. She liked the luxury of living in it; driving it was another story altogether. It was the sort of thing she usually worked out one of her 'arrangements' for - brokering some sort of deal for someone to handle that particular chore for her so she could just be a happy passenger. A last minute move meant she hadn't had time to find herself a bitch, basically. Throw in the additional headache of snow, ice, and rough terrain... Ro was about done, and the sun hadn't even set yet. Her arms and shoulders ached, and her temper was rather short. It was immense relief to have finally reached the new campsite.

Spots were quickly claimed or assigned, but that was the sort of thing she left to DeWitt. She followed the crew and parked, and all too happily climbed out of the RV. If she had to get behind the wheel of that thing again before spring, it'd be far too soon.

Ro fell into the task of helping others in the group find their spots. She was waving on one of the jeeps, gesturing for where they ought to go, when she heard a throat clear immediately behind her. Ro turned, and found herself being stared at by a group of Diaspora. One woman, about her age, and three guys not terribly far off. They all looked rather steamed.

"We don't want your kind here," the woman announced, her voice raised. The men surrounding her all nodded their agreement. Ro was pretty sure she'd slept with at least one of them, but it couldn't have been terribly memorable. At any rate, she vowed to never do so again.

"My kind?" Ro repeated, her own voice sickeningly sweet. "What kind do you mean, dear?"

"Brutes and killers, for the most part," was the woman's haughty answer. "And you. The whore of Babylon. This is our spot. You're gonna have to move."

Oh hell no. Ro was in no mood for this nonsense. She took a couple of seconds to scan their faces, briefly considering whether or not she might find one of the men to be slightly more reasonable. She just as quickly realized: she didn't fucking care if they were. "Listen, dollface," Ro replied, all hints of sweetness gone at once. "You wanna play alpha female, that's great. Goody for you. I bet you can pee standing up and everything. But I've had a long day and I could really give a flying fuck what you do or don't want. Get the fuck out of my face, or you'll presently find the better parts of it underneath my fingernails."

He didn't like it, at all, when people picked at his family. They helped; kept the camps safe, did shit that others wouldn't have the stomach to do - and this is what they got in return? It was bullshit, but he could hear both Birdie and Eli in the back of his skull; telling him that people were ignorant and not to let it overpower his sense of self when met with it. He couldn't help it, of course - even if it had come the entire time he'd been among the Diaspora. Should have been used to it but 'the feral boy' couldn't lay it to rest in his heart. Their side-long stares still followed, still burned - right along with the false smiles. He'd be damned if he let it sting his family, too. So, it felt good to be standing there with Ro, her arm around him - standing against those who looked down on them and theirs. "Who doesn't like a little blood spray on a cold day; still, disease doesn't wash away." He sucked in his cheeks a little bit, thoughtfully - then shrugged and smiled cheerfully. "But - whatever floats your boat, huh? Make sure you go for the eyes, though. They pop so pretty when you hit 'em just right. I can show ya!" He'd straight giggled in to Ro's ear with that, and was about to add on to it - but then his attention was called by one of the goons. Who called him a smiley asshole. He mouthed out 'how do assholes smile?' then shook his head.

"Nah, you seem pretty serious about stirring up some dumb shit, dumb-shit." Ezra shrugged at the lug, whom he'd deemed 'Ape' in his head. The grin was wider then, and he could feel the anticipation rolling through his nerves, just like Ro. He wanted a go at these guys and their apparent sense of superiority. Just to rub their faces in the fault of their ideals. No harm past that, unless they pushed for it - then he'd be the one cutting in to them, and it wouldn't be as careless as maybe it should have felt.

DeWitt joined them, and Ezra had a feeling that their opposition would soon be backing down. It didn't take away that 'ready when you are' sensation which crawled along his muscles. It could still escalate, especially if these guys were as dumb as they looked. While their head spoke to the man called Hayes - Ezra kept his eyes on the others, studying them in silent attention. Watching their body language; where their hands were positioned. They were hiding weapons, not well though. The lot of them seemed itchy, aside from the woman and Hayes; Mangy sputtered as Ro made a joke at the guys - some of their itch ebbing off to something else. Good distraction, but would it last?

His eyes flicked to Hayes then, and he saw the tightening of jaw which showed he was trying to make up his mind on whether or not to back off and give to DeWitt's 'requests'. Silence lingered, and Ezra studied their opponents tirelessly - waiting for the tension to break, for them to back or for the call to action to sound.

"We got nothing to apologize for, Hayes." That was Ape. "And this is our spot."

DeWitt was ignoring all the others, his gaze focused entirely on Hayes. As much of a stretch as it felt, considering the situation, Hayes was the brains, which meant if there was any common sense to be had he'd be the one to show it.

"You wanna come over here and start shit with my people, that's your stupidity." DeWitt started, knowing full well that there was little challenge here, particularly with the rest of the crew so close at hand if things when south. It had been a very, very dumb idea for whoever had started this to essentially come strolling onto the doorstep of arguably the most dangerous lot in the diaspora camp. "You wanna waste my time when we all got shit to do, that's a problem." The loose snow in the space between the two groups stirred as DeWitt tugged the particles in full view. Enough to be a threat, a reminder of what would and could happen if they wanted to keep going. Already DeWitt had plans to go for the snow directly under their feet, collapse and trap them. No permanent damage to start out unless they kept asking for it. Instead, he stared right into Hayes' eyes, his lip twitching, his gaze unwavering. "You wastin' my time?"

Hayes faltered for an instant, glancing down at the sound of the loose snow sliding as easily between his feet as if it were the wind itself. The guy probably couldn't tell if it was the wind or not, which likely only made him more uneasy. Good. When the man looked back up, DeWitt had his other glove off, his arms folded comfortably over his chest despite the cold, his posture reading a strange conglomeration of relaxed dominance. An asshole alpha versus and asshole alpha.

"Nah," Hayes resigned finally, half snorting as he backed up a step, as if he'd decided to spare them for the moment. "Your stink's probably all over it by now anyway. Who wants it."

This latest development seemed to be too much for Christa to stomach. Her ringleader had backed down and accepted defeat, and Christa seemed unwilling to accept this. "Are you fucking serious?" she snapped, whirling around to face Hayes. "You're going to back down, just like that? You were supposed to have my back! These people are trash!"

To Ro's mind, DeWitt had just won the pissing contest, and the group was sure to retreat. Christa was still pretty damn annoying though, and she really didn't want this whole thing to die down without getting to have any fun. So she released Ezra, grabbed Christa's shoulder, and spun her around fast. One swift right hook delivered to the nose, and then Christa was lying on her back in the snow, blood covering her face. Ro nudged her leg with her boot. Out cold, she mused, tilting her head to the side. "Speaking of trash," she sighed. She snapped her fingers, and gestured from two of the guys down to Christa. "Take that with you when you go."

Ape's laughter about Hayes' comment on 'their stink' was cut off by Mangy's fussing; and he'd nodded his head about the trash comment. Granted, the guy had made himself known in his argument seconds before - so maybe he was just the type that rolled with the wind? In any event, it didn't matter what kind of credit Ezra would or wouldn't have given the man. All thought was erased when the dude made a move for Ro after she'd knocked Mangy out.

From that point, it was just action. Swift and certain, a clear threat after Ape had yelled "Hey, that's my sister, you bitch!"

Ezra had a blade against the big guy's groin area; having crossed towards him before he could meet the woman who'd knocked Mangy out. He pressed the knife's serrated edge against the material of Ape's pants, glaring up in his eyes while the man stopped short and stared back - wide eyed.

"And Ro's my sister, and you won't be able to fucking breed if you ever move at her again like that." Ezra's words came out in a hiss, and he applied more pressure against the man's groin before Ape stepped back with his hands up.

DeWitt, for his part, hadn't moved an inch, arms still folded, posture still relaxed and controlled. He watched the scene unfold with that close-mouthed, lopsided, belittling smirk. When the girl was down, and the big guy was making his slow retreat, Hayes glanced to him, as if waiting to see what leader of the group would do. Nothing needed to be done. Ro and Ezra had made their point, and the idiots who'd started this mess finally seemed to getting the idea. Maybe later, when they were nursing their egos, they might realize just how bad it could have been.

He only returned Hayes' look once, to arch his brows up, as if silently saying he'd tried to warn them. Hayes looked away first.

"Alright, quit foolin' around." DeWitt finally spoke, nonchalant and dry, as if nothing had happened. He drew his gaze to Ro and Ezra even before the rival group had really started their official retreat. It was a show of how little they meant, one last little demoralization as DeWitt practically turned his back on them. They weren't going to try anything now, but in the back of his mind he kept his focus on that loose layer of snow in case he needed it. "Ez, we need that fire pit up before we lose daylight." His hand moved to his belt, pulling his knife out in full view, and he twirled it lightly in his fingers as his smirk morphed into a slightly digusted grin. "Also, got a critter grillin' in my engine. Which one'a you lucky bastards wants to help me scrape it out? I'll even let ya keep it."

Normally Ro might have pointed out that Ezra needn't have bothered, and she was perfectly capable of taking care of guys like Ape herself, but his words took her so off-guard that she let it slide. That Ezra might think of her as a sister was a very pleasant surprise, and not the sort of thing Ro would have imagined. People tolerated her, and some people liked her because let's face it, she was a blast, but that was... oddly touching. Ro found herself smiling brightly, not minding the slightly bizarre event. She supposed she felt the same way, more or less. She didn't think of Ezra the same way she did Devon, but he was certainly up there. The whole crew was. Ro didn't really think in terms of loving people, but there was a special bond there.

She still would have enjoyed a proper fight, but at least she'd gotten to throw one punch. She decided to be cooperative, and when DeWitt made a show of dismissing their challengers, she turned her back on them. She couldn't help but wrinkle her nose at the iea of a critter in DeWitt's engine, but she sighed and nodded anyway. "I'll have a go at it. Maybe I can restore it to... something."

He tucked his blade away once Ape had backed up considerably; Ezra turning his back with a nod as DeWitt spoke about the firepit. He knew there was work to be done, and plenty of it - but their 'friends' had wanted to play before the serious business was taken care of. Why did idiots have to cause interruptions when there was so much to do? He shook his head lightly, thinking over it. Somehow, his family would end up to blame by the end of the night; when tales were told around other campfires. Not that he cared, of course - when was there not some slander being passed against them? Until they were needed and could be utilized for what they were typically found distasteful for - then they were praised for half a night, maybe, before they became beasts again.

Made a whole lot of fucking sense, right?

Still, he went about his business in peace as the other group drifted off, grumbling. He'd keep an eye out for them further, of course. Even if it felt like it was done, sometimes other people had plans of their own - and those ass-for-brains had already proven they weren't worth their salt on the intelligence factor.

Ezra was about to pipe up about the grilled thing in DeWitt's engine, but Ro beat him to it - so he laughed at her words, and went about to begin building the amenity he'd been directed to.
