While I can see how my career might, by someone with his heart bent on malice, be characterized as somewhat ... scavengery, I'm not the sort of man who's ever dug for his essentials. Not figuratively. Not literally. I unequivocally resent the necessity.

But sometimes, you find a real doozy whilst pushing through a dumpster.

Ummmmmmmm I would say ...Patrick.... Swayze? I mean, before cancer Patrick Swayze. That's what it was, wasn't it? Cancer -- oh God, is it too soon for me to be bringing that up? I can never tell with celebrity deaths. I still think it's too soon to mention Bob Vila's death.

...No! I just googled it! He isn't dead - who am I thinking of?

As usual, Martin, I haven't a clue who you're talking about, and have very nearly forgotten what the hell I wanted to say in the first place.

Let's try again: when presented with a cigar, do you hack and peep like a little girl, or do you just cough weakly into your sleeve?

Sleeve.

In that case, I've found you a cigar.

And I've found myself nine cigars.

Well, I didn't know that you...

...smoked...

are you going to barter them?

You don't have to smoke to enjoy a fine piece of work like this, although admittedly it helps.

Why? What'll you give me for them?

Me? Me, oh no not me -- but I'm sure someone might?

Well, if you won't, things aren't exactly looking up. At any rate, I doubt if anyone around here has anything I want in the first place.

Well, 'anything you want' and 'trading up' are different things.

I know. It's a question of energy - this place drags it all right out of you. I'd say it's nothing a good smoke couldn't fix, but at the moment I'm entirely unconvinced.

Oh, a bottle here, a carton there. You know. Just the basics.

You can, although it seems a waste of time.

What is this place if not a waste of time?
