I'm heading towards the end of the recovery road, I think. And I wanted to start a few projects soon. How does the science group operate here? Do you work closely together? I'm a biologist but I've done a lot of interdisciplinary cooperations. I've got a basic understanding of physics, chemistry, psychology, anthropology and, of course, mathematics and computer science as well. The last two for statistics and computational modeling. So if there are any projects to get involved with, give me a shout.

Otherwise, do you guys have regular meeting and give regular talks about newest findings?

And are there people here (regular people, not us weird scientific freaks) who would like to join the dark side of knowledge? You don't seem to have a university here and I did some tutoring during my PhD. I would be happy to teach things, whatever the interest is.

You're a teacher? Will you teach me how to read a calendar?

Um, sure. What kind of calendar do you mean?

The twelve month calendar. No one ever taught me.

You mean like date formats?

In the Gregorian calendar (you know the one with 365 days a year), there are three kinds of formats that are used around the world.

You've got:

Month - day - year (e.g. 04-21-2132 for 21st April, 2132) which is the standard in the USA.

Day - month - year (e.g. 21-04-2132 for 21st April, 2132) which is used in the United Kingdom and Europe as a standard system.

Year - month - day (e.g. 2132-04-21 for 21st April, 2132) which is, if I'm correct, used in Asian countries like China.

So, yeah, there are different systems. Is this what you wanted to know?

I haven't been here long enough to know for sure, what with my memory gap and all, but I don't think there's any sort of organized group.

Once I have a solid set of data to start working with you're welcome to help me out trying to understand how magic energy interacts with the spire.

We should get one going then, you know. I've always preferred working in teams.

Awesome. I don't know a thing about magic but we could try to combine it with physical data and do a data driven approach. Or do you have any hypothosis?

Other than the Spire being some kind of control mechanism? Not really, I haven't enough data to even guess yet, let alone come up with a hypothesis.

Good, yeah. Brilliant. I'll take a look into what kind of physical parameters we could detect. Is there anything that would correlate with magical activity?

What have you been up to yesterday evening, by the way?

I'm glad you agree.

There should be blips every day with dawn and sunset, along with the moon, that we can use to make certain the devices are working properly. Aside from that? Whenever somebody new shows up or someone disappears we should look for some kind of spike in energy levels.

Last night? After being dragged around the woods by a hyperactive scientist I had a pretty quiet night, curled up with a book. How about you?

I'm not aware of any formalized group on the island, aside from Stark I'm not sure there have been many physical scientists that have been here for more than a month or two. As an archeologist and linguist I'll be happy to volunteer for projects as well, though my mobility will be increasingly limited unless I switch back to my own body soon.
