It's Steve and Steve's birthdays on the 4th of July, and I'm terrible at ideas for gifts.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Eru, do you not listen to your partners when they talk about their interests?

One is my partner and one is my friend; I have an idea but I don't want to get them the same thing because it'd hurt their feelings.

Oh aye, so ask an island that doesn't know them as intimately as you do. Perfect.

Some do know them both very well indeed. Have I done something to offend you? If so, I apologise.

Eru, who knows someone better than their partner?

I suppose I have a lot of self doubt. I love him so much, I want it to be perfect. He's had such a hard life, so full of things that aren't for me to tell but I want this to be perfect. He deserves perfect.

Then why on Eru's green earth are you asking others for their opinions on your idea of perfect?

Humans don't make any sense.

That's the very definition of humanity. Complete chaotic confusion.

Ignore the twit up there, Peggy.

You definitely don't want to get them the same thing, especially with Steven pretty much doubting himself every time he turns around. I didn't think he was that insecure. I just want to hug him and never let go, really.

As far Cap, well, my idea of what you should get him probably isn't the most appropriate so I'll save that for if you really want to know about it.

For Steven, maybe get him an easel and a big drawing pad? I know he's just got those little ones that he carries around with him everywhere. Just a thought.

You are awful, Isabel :-) but I like you.

I really don't want to get them the same present no. I was thinking of making Steven a birthday cake since I know he's got a sweet tooth. He deserves something extravagant too.

um... is is a sex thing? We've um.. just started to... well.. you know.

Is there a supply nearby or should I go into Arlington?

I do try. Sometimes they irritate me and I can't hold back. Though there's a couple of them that are pretty cool.

Steven's actually been asking me about what kind of cake that I can make factoring his allergies in. Apparently there was an issue with chocolate cake when he was younger.

It's kind of a sex thing, yeah. Basically just finding some nice lingerie. There are plenty of shops.

We can explore the city first and then if you don't find something you like, I can take you into Arlington. There are some pretty good art supply stores there.

Is it possible to make an allergy-free chocolate cake? There must be a specialist food shop in Arlington somewhere...

Lingerie?

I'd be forever in your debt if you'd show me around. I don't want Steve to know that I'm going into Arlington alone or he'd want to come with me. I do love the man but he worries far too much.

The problem with chocolate allergies most of the time is that it's an allergy to the cocoa itself, not the sugar or the milk used to make it. So he might even have an issue with vegan chocolate. The closest specialty bakery is going to be in Dallas, but I think we can at least ask. Though there are a ton of other kinds of cakes that we can make for him. And he seems pretty okay with not having chocolate cake.

Lingerie is fancy underwear. Like lacy panties and stuff.

I can definitely take you and show you around. I know the place like the back of my hand, having lived there for so long. I can take you to the mall and other places. It'll be great.

Would it be okay to invite some of the other ladies along for a girl's night out? There's even a place where we could go get some fondue.

Perhaps I can help make him a coffee cake? I know the man adores coffee. You're the expert on baking, after all.

Oh... yes, I'd think Steve would like to see those judging by the beach party.

Of course! I'd love to have a girl's jaunt into the city. I want to make his birthday memorable in the good way, both of their birthdays in fact.

Cheese and bread, yes?

We can do a coffee cake. Definitely. Cinnamon crumble coffee cake, I think.

You know, I have to say, the idea of Cap having sex is just amazing to me.

We can have a ladies night out and go shopping and have some fun, it'll be great.

It's so much more than just cheese and bread, now. There are several courses. There's the cheese and bread, of course. Then there's one where they bring out a pan of boiling broth and you can dip different kinds of meat in it and cook it and then there are sauces to dip them in, and then there's dessert which is fruits and cakes and marshmallows and cookies that you dip into different kinds of chocolate. You can make an entire meal out of it. It's awesome.

Yes, it is rather amazing...

That chocolate one sounds interesting. I might have to find a recipe for chocolate fondue.

How about a computer and drawing tablet for Steven? I know they both like to do artsy stuff and this would let him draw it directly into a computer and manipulate it in ways he couldn't do by hand.

As for Steve, does he like photography at all?

They have those? That would be wonderful. I know it wouldn't set his allergies off. Thank you so much!

We didn't have readily available cameras where I came from but I'd imagine he'd like to take some here just in case something happens to capture the memories.

They do! It works just like pen and paper, only the stylus takes the lines and inputs them into a computer program.

There you go then, I'm sure there are a couple camera shops on the island, or any electronics store would have them. With digital cameras you don't have to worry about film.

I think I only understood 3/4 of those words but I'll have a look while I'm in Arlington. I can ask someone for help, I'm sure.

You are a brilliant woman, Bridget.

Nah, I just have more experience with high-tech and I grew up with a bunch of brothers. The last five years I hardly had any technology at all until I came here, so this is the life of Riley for me.

I'd offer to go with you but I'm kind of stuck on the island until the twins are older.

You could always bring them? And if you ever need a break, Steve and I can babysit for you. My mother tore her hair out with one of me so goodness knows how you cope with two.

I have my sister and her husband to help, but by thanksgiving they'll have two of their own. I'm waiting until the boys are a little older before I think about taking them someplace other than the park.

So long story short, I'm trying to bank all that goodwill for when they're older and more mobile and I don't have my relatives to foist them off on. :)
