As we grow older it seems that Friends wont save us any more that we thought love would in our youth. On there own they cannot sustain you, but loving even one good friend completely will keep you in good stead for many lifetimes.

If it's your truth, then that is all that matters. It will be apparent in the spaces between the words.

Not when they grow old and die and leave you behind.

Well death is one of the great yet tragic inevitabilities of life. If you have all loved well then surely parting need not be sorrowful?

It depends how long you have to wait to join them.

Well yes, it does I suppose.

Have you met my friend Ernest? I think the two of you would get along.

I have met him, and I crossed paths with him back home too, several years in the future. Very fun man to have around most times.

Oh I see! I haven't known him to long myself. But he is a very dear friend, I'm glad you agree!

Hmm, you think so? If I haven't already I imagine it helps if they love you back as well.

They wouldn't be much of a best friend if they didn't, old sport.

You only need one true friend to know all of the love in the world.

Yes, I suppose so.

Hmm. It's a nice thought.

It is true! I have yet to no a greater or deeper love than that between my best friend and I. Though he may deny its depths it doesn't mean I cant feel it.

Beautiful thing, love. Dangerous in the hands of the wrong sort but delightful if you take care.

I'm glad for you. You are terribly lucky to feel so sure.

Dangerous, yes. Perhaps I am more familiar with that edge of the sword.

Oh come along, my good fellow. There must be some chap you find to be a decent sort. Well, maybe not even a decent sort, just the person you feel at your undiluuted best with. I would rather sit four sleepless nights with my good fried Ernest, writing and having him tell me I'm a talented waster than an hour with my wife some days.

Well, yes. Yes. I have the very fellow in mind right now, but- I- may have got a little carried away. It doesn't matter, I won't burden you with my silly problems. It's a nice sentiment, anyway.

A burden shared is no more a burden, just two friends carrying a load.

You! You're the scoundrel who found and published Nick's journal! And you have the cheek to say that you created me? I suppose you thought that was dead and could never say a damn thing against you, but bad luck, old sport. I'm very much alive here.

I'm ever so sorry, old sport! There seems to be a mix up. I wrote a novel last year. I don't know what you're talking about, my dear fellow. I'm sorry if there's a mix up!

Well, there we go, then. If you're talking about The Great Gatsby, Nick wrote it in 1922. So I think we both know who the liar is, here.

I'm not the one causing a ruckus here. You took his personal writing, his private journals, and you published them for the whole world to see! And now everyone knows, and- it's your fault. How can you just act as if it was your right to claim ownership of his writing?

Listen, sir, I was amused at first when you told me your name but this is begining to get rather personal. I would appreciate if you just left it alone, whatever your motivation is for this prank.

I have copies if you would like to see them. draghs of the novel. not that i need to justify myself to you!

[info]gatz

There is nothing amusing about it. Only because you made it personal.

I don't need to see anything of yours, I know myself, I know Mr Carraway, and I know that I wasn't dreamt up in 1925. This is ridiculous. I am Jay Gatsby. You can hardly expect to fool me.

Sir, Nick Carraway is a man of my own creation. True he is my most beautiful and magnificent creation, but still. He is not real. He is a work of fiction.

Don't be ridiculous. Nick Carraway is my neighbour- he was my neighbour, now he is my housemate. He's my friend, and he's real. He's very real. Why don't you come over for tea, I'm sure he'd be just delighted to meet the man who stole his journal.
