Nick Carraway. Did you leave me a trail of chocolate eggs? Gatsby.

No, old chap. Sorry. What a disappointment.

Do you have an admirer?

Oh. Well, how odd.

I shouldn't have thought so. And if I do, well- what a strange way they have of showing it. Someone has come into my room as I slept and laid out a trail- I don't know where it leads. I'm curious, although slightly concerned.

I see. Would you like me to come with you to discover it's point of conclusion? Should we run into anything untoward there will at least be two of us! Though I can't imagine what mischief anyone could wish to cause by tempting you with chocolate treats.

You have them too? I woke up with chocolate eggs leading from my bed out the door of the apartment, looks like there's a line of them out in the hall as well.

Yes, exactly so. How curious.

At least this is a nice surprise for a change. They're delicious.

There are often nasty surprises? I haven't tried one yet- there are no ill intentions behind them?

Well there was the super-flu, and the dragon-things, and the love spell that got my sister knocked up, and that poor girl that got turned into a mermaid last week...

Oh, well I'm terribly sorry to hear that. Although I suppose I shouldn't be sorry, I should simply be glad that you are here instead.

Oh and I don't think the island has that twisted a sense of humor, they seem like normal chocolate eggs.

Apparently around Christmas the Spire turned into a gigantic Christmas tree and there were presents underneath its branches on Christmas morning.

At least there were no love spells or random transformations in this go-round.

Oh. Well, how odd that it should chose to force only Christian festivities upon us. How did I end up I suppose it could be worse, although it does kind of give me the heebie-jeebies.

It could be worse. The island could force the customs of the Aztecs or worshippers of Kali. I like my organs where they are.

Oh, and to clarify, I meant that the sudden appearance of chocolate gives me the heebie jeebies, not Christian festivities. I seem to have dug my own grave, here.

Ahahaha! Too true, monsieur...! I mean, imagine if the Island decided to make this all about the Death Eaters (or Knights of Walpurgis, as they were ONCE known!). I mean, come the 5th of May, we'd ALL be dead...!

Imagine if the Island decided to make this all about you.

It really feels like it has sometimes. It's all you seem to be able to bloody talk about.

Or do I just always step in at the wrong time?

...

I don't know about "always", monsieur, given that you've encountered me exactly twice, including *this* encounter...! but yes, indeed, I do think that you just happen to step in at the wrong time *both* times that you've accused me of being self-centred! I mean, honestly, I was an Auror - a dark wizard fighter - for bloody years before I came to... my most recent predicament! I fought for the safety of the general public - Muggles and wizards alike - from the Death Eaters.

If I AM selfish, then - then I don't even know *why* I was involved in that bloody war in the first place...!

I find it ironic that you just sat there and consciously wrote that you were an Auror and fought dark wizards for years for two lines after saying I accused you of being self-centred. You just went on for two lines about how brilliant you think you are when it was completely irrelevant. I rest my case.

Also, there's a difference between self-centred and selfish.

And you still managed to make the last line about you and what you've done and how you were in a war. You just can't help yourself, can you?

Do you read what you write before you send it?

Oh no? Well, then, you may certainly count yourself as Fortunate, indeed, monsieur...! But nevermind that. I mean, I don't wish to selfishly dominate the conversation with my own long-left-behind troubles, after all!

Sorry, sir, but I have to ask: you're not a Christian yourself? (no judgement, mind you; neither am *I*, really - although my brother was always the good little Christian soldier sort...!) I mean, well, what religion ARE you, then? If you don't mind my asking, that is...?

[info]gatz
2013-03-31 10:33 pm UTC (link)
Oh. Well, no, I'm not. But as I said, I'm not complaining, I really don't mind at all. I did live in America, I am quite used to Christianity and familiar with the holidays, I certainly don't have a problem with it, really. Or with the eggs, not in the slightest. It's a kind gesture, whatever the reasons are behind it. I'm a Jew, actually, but as I said, I'm fine with it all, it was merely an observation.

Gatsby, you don't have to apologise to her. It's none of her damn business what religion you are. Just because she likes to air her dirty laundry for everyone to see, there's no reason for you to feel you have to explain yourself.

Anyway, Jews are sexy. And Jesus was a Jew. Drop the frowny face and get Nick to feed you chocolate.

Oh, okay. I just didn't mean to cause any trouble, I probably shouldn't have mentioned it to begin with. I know how sensitive people can be.

You think- what? I will- well, not with Nick, I just mean, I'll have some. Thank you.

It's a free island, my good man. You can be who ever you want to be. I'll be honest, waking up to find eggs everywhere was a little bit disconcerting for me, too. And if people are sensitive and rude they're in a minority here, okay? And at Yom Kippur we'll party with you like it's...whatever Jewish year it is now.

You don't need to be with someone to have them feed you chocolate. Heck, I'll feed you chocolate.

Yes, well we had freedom of religion in America, but it didn't remove the necessity to be somewhat careful with your language and so on. That is certainly good to know, though. Yes? Well, I certainly don't expect anything of a fuss, but I appreciate the gesture. Thank you, sir.

No? Is it not a little odd? I'm quite capable of feeding myself.
