At the risk of sounding as rude as hell, all you love sick puppies are making me absolutely sick to my stomach. And no it's not the booze

Well, what do you know: Fucking stage three, already.

Love is cruel.

You can say that again. It's almost like I can't scream why loud enough.

I know how that feels, my lady. I am sorry that you do, too.

You do?

Aye, lady, all too well.

What happened to yours?

If you would forgive me, lady, I would prefer not to speak of it. The grief is still too near my heart.

Of course, I'm sorry.

Sounds like you're a stage ahead of me though. So there's that?

It has been nearly fifty years.

You're an elf, though, aren't you? So I'd say we're pretty even.

Oh, aye, in the course of my life it is a very short time.

Though it makes me feel a little callous. I would have been with him a year, this past Sunday. And I'm to the anger stage almost twenty days after.

Nay, you are not callous. Do not fear that.

The children of Men are lucky, indeed. Their hearts allow them to love more than once.

Even if I'm doing everything I possibly can to try and forget what the loss feels like?

That's the last time for me. I'm bad luck.

No one enjoys pain, lady, and you cannot be faulted for trying to forget it.

A lot of people would condemn me. But it's good to know someone who's been there wouldn't.

I think that's more dead on the nose than saying love is cruel.

I agree with you, from experience. The world is not nice to people who are different.

No, it is not. It views people who are different as a threat to society, misunderstanding and harming instead of helping.

Preaching to the choir my friend. Harming and murdering in my case. Even the ones that weren't so different anymore. Just because they had been.

Nay, the world is beautiful. The cruelties in it only make the joys all the more beautiful.

And I'm sure you have not suffered an entire life of that cruelty, so it's simple to say the world is a beautiful place. You do not live in fear, do you, monsieur?

In fear? Sir, I live constantly under the Shadow from which all fear springs. You know nothing of my life. Do not attempt to nullify my experience because I speak not openly of my suffering.

Ah yes, but what about those of us who have to wear our suffering on our face? Those people who have to see it every time they look in the mirror? What of us who live every day knowing that humanity would rather lock us in a cage and spit on us than treat us as a person? Do you know that feeling, monsieur?

Sir, I make no attempt to lessen your suffering as you do mine. I do not doubt that you know suffering, nor that you have known cruelty. But so have we all. My face is fair, aye, after the way of my people, but my beauty hides sorrows that you do not and cannot know.

Do not assume that a smile and a fair face mean that there is no pain beneath. One need not be disfigured to know cruelty and sorrow.
