Lothíriel, Queen of Rohan | Lord of the Rings ([info]queenofrohan) wrote in [info]compass_network,

I found this picture today, and while it is perhaps not the best art (and my ears do not look like that) it has made me desperately heartsick. What will I do if my time comes, and my husband still is not here?

[Filtered to Imrahil]

Father, are you willing to speak to me? I am troubled.

You have no choice. Do you wish to bring the child to term healthy?

You are not going to die. You must bring the child to term and that requires strength. You have been here already and you will continue on.

But it is so close here. I can't smell the breezes off the mountains, or hear the horses, and my room is so lonely and the bed so cold. How - father, I think I will die if I can never hear his voice again. He has the sweetest accent.

You must. Be strong, child, and worry not about things you cannot hope to control. He will come or he will not, you will return or you will not. Those are the only choices and you must accept it.

Once, not long after we were married, it was a lovely day in the spring, and be brought me this lovely bouquet of wildfires, father. I've never seen anything like them, so fresh and fragrant and bright. And he would take me out at night to see the stars. Father, did you ever go out to see the stars when you were in Edoras!? If you ride out, oh, a half an hour from it, it's...amazing.

It's nothing like in Dol Amroth, with all the lights from the city and the harbor. You look up and the whole sky is bright with them, you can't even tell them all apart anymore! And you lay back on the grass and you can almost feel the world turning all around you. And we would watch the stars and talk and laugh and - oh, father, I miss him so!!!

And some mornings, when it's raining, and it's just pouring down on Meduseld, we'll just lay in bed and talk for hours and hours and hours, and he listens, father, to everything I say. He cares. He wants to hear my opinions and my hopes and dreams and he smiles as I go on and on and I feel so silly, but whenever I talk he tells me to keep going, and I've told him things I've never told anyone, not even you and mother. And he remembers.

Like...I told him once how much I loved that rabbit stew Faramir made us a long time ago, just remembering when I was a little girl, and that day he sent hunters out and they caught rabbits and he had the cooks make rabbit stew for dinner, just for me, because I liked it. Isn't that sweet? Isn't he wonderful?

When I first saw Edoras, I did not think I would. I thought them savages, father, and I thought there could not possibly be a gentleman among them. But I was wrong. He is as much a gentleman as King Elessar, as much a noble man. He is kind and tender and loving and...I never could have dreamed it. I feel so beautiful when I'm with him, and I feel so special.

He tells me stories, old stories of Éorl the Young, and about the days when they came out of the North, and I share with him the stories you told me when I was little, and I braid his hair in the morning and sometimes he tries to braid mine, but he's very bad t it, father, very bad indeed.

It isn't the business of kings to braid the hair of women.

Oh, no, of course not. But he does it of his own will, father, and who am I to stop him? He says my hair is like silk and he's never seen such pretty dark hair before, and he wants to play with it, so I let him, because I could never refuse him anything. I always have to redo it when he's done, but his fingers are so tender and soft that I don't mind.

And he's such a good and fair king. Everyone in Edoras loves him so much, and he shows great mercy, and has great pity for those who have suffered. He is a king who loves his people, and truly does not see himself much above them, but as a part of them. He is a hero, to them, and to me.

The ladies didn't speak to me at first, I don't think they like me, but recently they say that they have never seen him happier. And that he only has eyes for me.

I'll not discuss such particulars with you, as that is between you and your husband and I am neither of those things.

But I am concerned about how we shall rear a child in this environment.

Sweetie I wish there was something I could say to make it easier for you. It sounds like you love your husband very much which is a wonderful thing.

Try to take your mind off of it somehow? I know that isn't easy, but the heartache won't help you or your baby.
