Hello, excuse me, I don't mean to be a bother but is it okay if I move apartments to one with a window that looks out at the stars? Will anyone mind? And does anyone know where I could get a lot of bookcases? I have a lot of books. And a fishtank.

Thank you, thanks so much.

Steven

You can shop for apartments if you want? As long as someone else isn't already using it, you should be able to just go in and look to see if you like the view. Though it does change with the revolution of the wheel. You can even pick one that gives Gus his own room if you like.

I know, I like that it changes. As if it wasn't interesting enough, right?

I don't know if Gus would be comfortable with his own room, though. Bit big, you know? And he's just a little thing.

You do make a good point. I happen to like the view of the gas giant myself.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I did try to give Lucky his own room, he just learned how to open the doors so he could sleep with whoever he wanted. Gus doesn't have that big wet nose to help him out.

I moved some extra bookcases into the library not long ago. There are still some in the storage room I found them in, if you'd like them.

You don't think anyone would mind if I took them?

That's very kind of you, thank you.

I don't think so, they're just sitting gathering dust. They are at [wheel 3 location]. If you need help moving them, I can do that too. They look heavy.

It doesn't spook you to look out at the stars?

Brilliant, thanks again!

No, I think they're amazing. It's not the constellations I'm used to, but that's okay.

I say go for it, bud. If you want something with a more scenic view, do it. I move around alot, myself.

BTW, Gus is adorable and deserves all the beat.

Hi, Peter.

Gus is brilliant. He's my little one-finned wonder.

If you need or want any help, just let me know, okay?

No, I haven't gone through the magic door yet.

My books filled my flat, first morning I woke up in it.

What's flat?

He didn't move anywhere. We're in a park.

A flat's like a little house. I've just asked if I can move to an empty one. Some people call them apartments. And maybe if Stede tries sleeping in one of them, his books will show up?

I know it sounds really stupid, but we're here and everyone's from different years and places and if that can happen, why can't people's things just show up?

I didn't read that part.

That's dumb. He slept in the park, that should count.

Yes, I would love to know how you came to own so many books. My library unfortunately did not make the same journey I was forced into yet and so I find myself without adequate reading materials.

I bought them all when I was back home. From book shops and charity shops and whenever the nearby libraries had sales. Mine all came here with me, though. I woke up and my flat was full of them.

What sort of books do you like reading?

You are wonderfully lucky to have been gifted with your books. I should wager there would be no room for my collection, as broad as it was when I was upon my ship. I hope we can barter for the borrowing of some of your tomes.

I do fancy myself somewhat eclectic in taste, though in truth I am more likely to prefer fiction over non. Though I suppose there are entire worlds of history I have no idea ever existed. What an exciting notion!

Do you have a genre preference, Steven?

Oh yeah, you can borrow some of my books, that ain't a problem.

I love history. But that kinda branches out into all kinds of things as well, so there's mythology and geography and politics all overlapping with history and I'll get interested in one thing and have to go and research that, and then the next thing, and the next. So, I have a lot of books. I don't think I have a lot of fiction, though.

There is the bookshop/library, though. Have you found it yet? It's got all kinds of books, it's aces.

That's an absolutely splendid thing of you to offer, Steven. You are a brilliant person of kindness.

Fascinating! I shall love to dive into history, or I suppose the future! I do love history and poetry too, and perhaps I could be persuaded to think on geography and politics as worthy of written merit.

There is a library? One could borrow said books? Steven, would you be able to show me???

Do you speak French? I know a really good French poet, she's amazing. Well, not personally, but I've read her work. It's beautiful.

I can show you the library, yeah, of course.

Un petit peu! Enough to be able to read most poetry, though I couldn't write a jot of French, that's for certain. Syntax does have a stranglehold on my mind. What is this lady's name? I would love to read her work.

Thank you! I feel I have made a true and kind friend in you, Steven. We shall share our love of the written word.

Marceline Desbordes-Valmore. Here's one of her poems.

La fleur renvoyée

Adieu, douce pensée,
image du plaisir!
Mon âme est trop blessée,
tu ne peux la guérir.
L'espérance légère
de mon bonheur
fut douce et passagère,
comme ta fleur.

Rien ne me fait envie,
je ne veux plus te voir.
Je n'aime plus la vie,
qu'ai-je besoin d'espoir?
En ce moment d'alarme
pourquoi t'offrir?
Il ne faut qu'une larme
pour te flétrir.

Par toi, ce que j'adore
avait surpris mon cœur;
par toi, veut-il encore
égarer ma candeur?
Son ivresse est passée;
mais, en retour,
qu' est-ce qu'une pensée
pour tant d'amour?

What a painful, beautiful poem of sadness. She must have gone through a lot of grief and heartbreak to write such beauty.

Thank you for sharing her work with me.
