Attn: Scouts
Tomorrow night's activity is loosely Valentine's themed. We're going to be making "cupid's" bow and arrow.

Click for example image.

If you happen to see any nice long bendy sticks, or smaller ones you can use as arrows, or you have any cool feathers for decorating, bring them along! Don't worry if not, I'll have a collection, but sometimes it's satisfying to use something you've found for yourself.

Sorry not sorry parents.

Also, I know we have some new kids around, if anyone wants to come along just let me know and I'll get an emergency contact / consent form sent over.

What a good idea! Is there a group of Cub Scouts? My two boys are six and seven, and I know they'd love this.

I'm sure they would. We have such a small population and range of ages, that we all meet at the same time (Fridays, 4-5pm) at the entrance to the large park on wheel 3.

We split into smaller groups if the activity calls for it, and some of the older kids act as peer support. Abigail Hobbs runs it with me, and sometimes we put out calls for chaperones for larger events.

They're welcome to come along and give it a try tomorrow, if they like, see what they think.

Thank you! I'll bring them along tomorrow and we can see how they'll get on. They're Sidney and Teddy Hale. I can also offer to help with some things - not on the day of the group itself, as I think part of the appeal for the boys is some time away from their mother! But if you should ever need help preparing craft supplies, or with sewing, or anything like that, you have only to ask.

One of my daughters would like me to ask you if Miss Hobbes, or perhaps one of the other ladies here, runs a Guiding group for girls? I said to her that these things are a lot of work, and perhaps there are fewer girls here, or not much interest, but I did promise to ask.

That's great, we'll take great care of them, I'm sure they'll love it. And I appreciate that, we can always use help with the prep work. Sometimes our ideas get bigger than is practical with the time constraints.

Oh, the scouts is co-ed. Boys learn to cook and mend, girls learn survival skills. She's more than welcome to join us. It's good to be able to be independent, to be multi-faceted. You never know when you might need it around here.

The big ideas are often the best ones, though, so they're worth the effort.

That's very unusual. I'm not sure that it's always appropriate for activities to be mixed, but I know my Susannah would like to make a bow and arrows. She's the one who asked, and she's something of a tomboy. I don't know about the other girls, but it is probably best for you if you don't have too many new children!

I totally agree.

Then she is very welcome, and of course if there are ever any sessions that you don't feel are appropriate then it's totally up to you if she attends or not. I'm not about to push any sort of agenda.
