A very astute observation. If we did not love our country and the people, we would not care what happened to them. We would be apathetic.
If you are certain, then I won't continue to patronise you.
You have seen the state of the city for yourself. The people are starving. We are sick, we are dying in the streets, we are desperate. The rulers of this land do nothing, in fact they seek to keep us oppressed so that they can continue to rule. They care only about money, glory, and power. They extort basic healthcare in the middle of a cholera epidemic, they poison the drinking water, they push up the cost of living while withholding a basic living wage, their police and military are corrupt.
My friends and I have been rallying support in the city for a rebellion movement. One of our only supporters in power contracted cholera and he died. The state gave him a grand, no expense spared funeral, parading him through the middle of the slum district. Partly to gloat that he was dead, I imagine.
We protested, my friends and I blocked the funeral procession and spoke to the people. I don't deny that we were armed, and planned to shoot if necessary, but they fired the first shot. Only not at us, they panicked and killed an innocent, unarmed bystander. The people panicked, and the more they did the more the military sued brute force to try to control the crowd, and many people were killed.
We took occupation of the building you enter through the door, the Musain. It was our base, fronting as a cafe. We built a barricade, like many others across the city, and tried our best to hold.
I see from the papers today that they were an army of 60,000. We were but 3000, although the number pleases me still as I was told we were only 10. Still, we were no match for their weapons and cannons, we were severely outnumbered.
Towards the end of the fight, they killed a young boy of 11, and so we decided that even though we were certain to lose, we would make them bleed while we still could. They broke through, they killed all my friends, and saved my partner and I for last as they knew I was their leader and wanted to make an example of me. As I had hoped an anticipated, they did nothing but make us martyrs, and anger the people further. I hope that our death will be the spark that ignites real revolution now.
