Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I've done some organizing and it will take a little longer to get the kids' set up for schooling but I've figured out the first few classes. I'll start sign-ups now, but we may have to wait until some of this chaos calms down to actually hold them. All of these will be 'extra' classes for now, open to anyone who's interested.

Session 1: Health and Sexual Education
There will be two sections for this one; one for male-identifying people, one for female-identifying people. Both classes will be exactly the same, covering science-based general health as well as reproduction and sexual safety for both men and women, but will be separated by gender to help everyone feel more comfortable. The session will be recommended for people age 12 and up, but we'll also cover most of this in the middle class of kids so this will be more geared toward adults. Mary Ellen has agreed to talk to the women but I still need someone for the men, we can give you a class outline but it would be best if you were comfortable talking about and answering questions regarding health, puberty, reproduction and sex.

Session 2: Modern Every-Day Technology
I'll be heading this class and it'll be anyone who either came from a different time period or who is not comfortable with the technology available to us on the station. It will cover personal, every-day technology like cell phones (including how to take pictures and record video), televisions and media players, some video games, and some appliances, along with anything else people may have questions about.

If anyone wants more in-depth classes about the more advanced equipment on the station (like some of the medical equipment or life-support systems) maybe someone could volunteer to head that one?

Session 3: Hand-to-hand Self-Defense
Steve Rogers (and probably Bucky) will cover this one. It will be about practical self-defense for an unexpected attack. You'll learn how to protect yourself if someone tries to hurt or intimidate you in a situation where you wouldn't normally expect a fight. The aim isn't going to be 'wining' anything, but incapacitating your attacker and getting away safely. This could be handy here if we ever have trouble or through doors to various places that may not be safe or where criminals may see someone who looks out-of-place as an easy target.

And finally, a more fun one:
Session 4: Magical Herbology
Neville Longbottom is going to have a hands-on class to show everyone some properties of the more fun magical plants and he'll have dittany plants for everyone to take home and continue to grow on their own. (He expained that dittany is a healing herb that can be ingested to heal minor illnesses and pains or can be blended and applied superficially to heal wounds.)

If anyone wants to sign up for the classes, let me know and I'll put up another notice when we figure out when and where. Also I'm open to class suggestions so if anyone has anything they want to teach, feel free!
