Hello. I've been here about a week now, and I've interacted with some of you already. Princess Luna was good enough to welcome me and show me around this place.

I guess I'm here to stay, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Amos McCarthy, I'm a former circus entertainer from Wisconsin. It was 2052, which is apparently important information now.

Anyway, you can feel free to say 'hello' if you see me about.

Hi Amos! I'm Genevieve Black. Welcome to this place! I have never heard of a circus before. May I ask what that is?

Hello, Genevieve. Thank you for the welcome.

Sure, it's kind of an old-fashioned form of entertainment. The Victorians were really into it, it went out of fashion around the turn of the century when people started to get more concerned about the treatment of animals and I guess you can't beat the special effects of the big screens. But it regained some interest in recent years.

So, pretty much it's a sort of live performance where you can see stunts, tricks, death-defying acts, illusions. Basically what the movies can do except it's real. People like real risk I guess. There are also fairground rides and games and a side show (what they used to call a freak show) where you pay to basically look at people who are kind of... unusual in some way.

This is probably a longer answer than you were hoping for.

Thank you! That was a good explanation. I need the long-winded ones. May I ask what you did at the circus? It sounds exciting.

I'm glad it was helpful.

I've had a few different jobs there. Mostly acrobatics, which is sort of like extreme gymnastics. I did mostly aerial performance - so it's like doing tricks and stunts in the air, for example with a large swing very high off the ground. Jumping from it and catching each other. Or walking across a wire. I think people like the feeling of adrenaline they get by watching.

But they did get to see me fall one day. I got hurt and haven't been able to do it anymore. I tried for something else, but it turns out I didn't really like it.

Aerial performance? That is incredible. Sorry to hear that it ended badly. It must have been tough. What did you try afterwards? I never really had a job. We always just tried to survive somehow and there was never any time for real entertainment.

Great. I'll look out for him, then.

Not too badly. Princess Luna got me mostly up to speed, but no doubt there will be a thousand other things to shock, surprise and confuse in the coming days.

Hello. Yes, it's a very uniquely special place and I didn't like to leave it behind. I've never really known anything different, though. I come from a circus family.

That's awesome. I don't come from a circus family, but we're big enough to be a circus. The Sullys. You'll probably meet a bunch of us here.

I've been back in this time for a while now so I'm more used to it, but when I first got here, I thought everything should've been in a museum. But there are good things, too. Lots of space, not nearly as many people, and there are animals and plants.

I'll bet, a lot of it's really very dated and I'm only a couple of decades out.

I agree about the good things. Funny that there should be more plants, given that it's a space station. Luna was surprised I didn't know that a daisy looked like that.
