I don't reckon I know what this'll really do, but I figure might as well try something.

Name's Cullen Bohannon, of Meridian Mississippi. Worked for the Union Pacific Railroad after the war.

Can't say I'm used to sitting idle, I work hard, and am willing to do just about anything that needs doing. So if you have anything that needs doing, I'd be obliged if someone let me know.

Afraid I only saw Shreveport during the war. Wife and me used to make a trip down to New Orleans every year, before the war.

It's been a long long time since somebody called me a lady. It's nice to meet someone with manners.

If you ever need anything, I own a little bakery here. Come by any time and I'll feed you a little piece of home.

Not ones you'd probably feel like sharing with someone who hadn't been through something similar I bet.

Has anyone explained to you how this place works? I'm Izzy Sully by the way, I apologize for not introducing myself before.

From during the war? Those aren't stories I would share with a Lady. From before the war I only went to make purchases for the farm.

I don't think so. Virginia has been finding her own way, I believe.

It's a pleasure to meet you Ma'am. Miss or Mrs?

Mrs, but please call me Izzy. If I hear Mrs. Sully I look for my mother in law. Atlanta is very different in my day, much much larger.

I'm not familiar with Virginia but I do see her name on the contact list. The island likes to grab people from different places and times and bring them here, sometimes ones we thought fictional seemingly at random though often if one person comes from a specific place and time others follow that they know. Also people from the future here on the island have been brought to this time, including several grown children of mine, so you'll run into a lot of Sullys.

You'll want to steer clear of the large stone tower at the center of town, it can do strange things to people who get too close.

Also the normal laws of physics don't always apply here. You'll find that what you would think is fantasy or children's stories can actually exist here.

Alright, Izzy. I reckon the buildings are a lot like the ones here?

So, because I'm here, Elam and Ezra could show? What about people from the past? My wife, and son

What sort of strange things?

How do you mean? About physics I mean.

Not the entire city no, but parts of it certainly. Especially downtown. This city is more like Manhattan or Hong Kong I think.

The answer is: maybe? It doesn't always happen, but it happens more often than not and it can be from any point in your lifetime. They don't always stay, people appear and disappear pretty regularly on the island. There's a core group of us that the island seems to want to keep around though.

It can turn you into an animal, wipe your memory, change your gender, any number of things.

Well instantaneous transformation of matter for one thing. Magic is real here and some people can make things appear at of thin air. Never did learn that trick myself but I always was more focused on the technological applications of thaumaturgy.

I've never seen Hong Kong. Might say I've seen a little too much of Manhattan.

I'm not sure how to take that Ma'am.

Or that. You mean I could suddenly swap... parts?

Just when I'm getting used to one thing.

I'm used to that myself, but mostly because I moved as the railroad moved. Or the occasional drunken wander. Magic is a little harder to wrap my head around.

I'm sure. Magic itself wasn't a problem for me, it was out in the open and integrated into society where I came from. I even studied it alongside electrical engineering at Georgia Tech. But all the various types here were a big surprise, they all work on the island for whatever reason.

The best way to look at Magic is to consider it just another form of energy, albeit one that can be used in very surprising and unpredictable ways.

Engineering is something I can grab onto. I helped design a few things that the engineers were able to make real for the railroad.

I'll have to keep that in mind.
