Baby steps. She cares about you, Dan, but it scares her. She's afraid she won't be able to control herself because of her feelings for you. It's not easy for me to admit this, but it kind of brings back memories of when Susan got turned by the reds. I searched obsessively to find a cure for her, so we could be together. ~~Dammit.~~

There wasn't anything I could do for Susan, but there is something you can do for Inari. Be patient with her. Woo her. Be ready and willing to talk about the hard things--and I don't mean just what's below your belt. Okay? Be honest with her, and with yourself, and know that if you do have a relationship with her, it might not look like the kind of relationship your folks have probably taught you to believe in.

	If she asks you to let it go, then walking away might be exactly what you have to do, Daniel. And if she doesn't...if she asks you to stay... Either one or both of you is going to have to share the other's time and affection. There isn't going to be room for jealousy--but it will probably come up at some point. The thing about First Times...they leave an indellible impression. There's power in Firsts. Inari had that power stolen from her, and you...if you want your first time to be with her...

It could kill you. Now, more than ever before. And even if it doesn't kill you, it will change you. Maybe not in the same way that it's changed Justine, but it's a possibility. Thomas had years of learning to control. Inari doesn't.
