WHO Everyone
WHAT Post-death, post-trauma, post-excitement party to blow off some steam for everyone on the base
WHEN Forward-dated to Saturday June 16th (night)
WHERE Leisure rooms, etc (if people wander off).
RATING Please mark your threads if they start to veer into mature territory

In the wake of the tragedies at Limbo, the party had seemed extremely trivial – maybe even a little inappropriate. But since everything had already been ordered, and people seemed to need something to cheer them up now more than ever, Amber and Chloe had forged ahead, and spent the entire Saturday decorating, preparing, baking, and arranging. By the time they were done with the leisure rooms, they were decked out with multi-coloured lights and cheeky neon signage, tables overflowing with snacks, baked goods, soda and water bottles, tubs full of ice that were brimming with all kinds of liquor, and speakers blasting decidedly very upbeat music meant to inspire fellow residents to shake off their troubles (if possible) and dance.

C1 (the entertainment room) skewed blue and purple. The gaming consoles were left hooked up, in case anyone wanted to get into some drunk Mario Kart battles in-between all the massive amounts of tasty snacks set up around the room. C2 (the movie theatre) had films set up for the entire night and a table full of beer and coolers prepared inside -- people would be able to happily enjoy Animal House, The Hangover, 21 Jump Street, Wedding Crashers, Oldschool and Superbad into the wee hours of the morning. C3 (the old fashioned game room) leaned towards a red motif -- all kinds of low lighting and much gentler music to allow people to talk and enjoy mellower company. And, of course, there remained plenty of floor space in case anyone decided to break out Twister. C4 (activity suite) was transformed into the closest thing to a club they could manage within their means and had the most impressive speaker system, leaving plenty of room for people to dance. C5 (the laser tag room) was decked out for karaoke -- assuring that anyone who wanted to embarrass themselves in public absolutely could, all with the benefit of some beautiful, bright yellow spotlights.

[OOC: this is posted ahead to give you more time to play the event out before it passes in real time. Everyone who lives, works, etc. at the facility would be able to stop into this thing at any point. Have fun!]

“So it is,” he agreed. “And what do you get at the end of it if you win? Some pretty sweet bragging rights, huh?” Not that he was one to talk – as an athlete, he understood all about the value of competition and winning for the sake of winning, even in good-natured games and stand-offs.

He chuckled as he tossed some trail mix into his mouth and began chomping. “Blue-shelling? Girl, that is the cheapest way to win this thing—,” he shook his head, utterly disenchanted by her apparently well-built skills over the course of the evening. With his mouth still somewhat full, he added: “I thought you were better than that, Baby Fitch.”

Of course Simon had given her anything she wanted. Her mom too, from what he knew; although, admittedly, that was quite little. It wasn’t as though Henry had spent much time with Mrs. Fitch – not when it was Summer and Simon’s dad who had a philosophy Henry felt he could get behind. “I’ll have to remember to give him shit about that. Sharing is caring, didn’t you know?”

Bragging rights was about all that someone could get in this place, it wasn't like she could get favours or even gamble properly, all they could give her would be store credit, and the store was lame. "No, I win a car. I get the car that I'm driving, that's what I win." Summer's eyes rolled, even as she blue-shelled the Mario in front of her and blitzed past to come in first. Screw gamesmanship, it was about winning. "If you have a blue shell, and you don't use it, you're an idiot."

What else was the point of power ups? Why sit on them? Dumbasses did that. Dumbasses who lost.

"I'm his baby sister, what's his is mine." Not entirely true, but it wasn't like she wanted his games or sports stuff or whatever, she wanted his desert when they went out for dinner, she wanted the seat he got on the couch if they did a family movie, she wanted him to take her to park when mom told them she couldn't go herself. It wasn't like she didn't have her own stuff, she just wanted Simon's attention too. "Besides, you'll lose that discussion with him the minute I ask for something and pout."

He knew she was being sarcastic (he wasn’t that dim), but he still couldn’t help himself from adding: “Boy, how much would that suck, though? Congratulations on your stellar performance in Mario Kart! Here’s a brand-new car! That you can never drive. Signed, Wraiths.”

Henry smirked and shrugged as he folded his arms over his chest. “You’re probably gonna feel a little bit different when people start pelting you with blue shells.”

The Super had no doubt that there was a nugget of truth to what the redhead said; if Summer wanted something, regardless of who she was asking, she was likely to get it. “Answer me this – do you ever get tired of having everyone bend to your whims?” He teased, leaning a little bit closer with an amused grin etched onto his face. “That must get kinda boring.”

Glancing down at her hand on the controller and getting a look at her white knuckles, Henry chuckled. “Ookay, loosen the death grip,” he nudged her thumb with two fingers, trying to poke at the joint to loosen it up. “Breaking the controller won’t make you win the race.”

"Hey, if they come with banana peels and magic stars, you could drive one of these right on outta here. Right to dad's door." Where she would proceed to yell at him until he apologised for leaving her behind and bought her a real car.

"Um, that's why you wait until you're nearly at the finish line to use them. It's called strategy, and I would've thought you knew about that, Mr Sports." Summer might not share her father's ideology, but she had the brains of both her parents combined, and that made for a dangerous mix. "Besides, that's what dropping shells behind you are for."

His question seemed like a really dumb one, like why would someone dislike getting what they wanted? And it wasn't all the time, she didn't make people give her shit that she didn't want, or that they would then be sad about being without. "Do you hear the words you say before you say them or...?" Like, really what was that question?

At his nudge she scowled a little, but still loosened up a tad, "It's not my fault I get aggressive, okay." Which yes, she knew that's what it was. "But nobody likes losing."

“You sound sarcastic but around here I one-hundred-percent believe that could be possible, okay?” Okay, maybe not quite the same as in a game of Mario Kart, but a van crammed full of Supers with all sorts of wacky and wild powers? How had nobody actually managed to escape yet?

Henry scoffed and gestured to the television screen. “Yeah, Mario Kart strategy and football strategy. Totally the same thing.” He kicked his legs out in front of him so he could stretch out and get comfier. He wasn’t going to leave Baby Fitch alone any time soon. He furrowed his brow; “You can drop the shells behind you?” Showed how much he knew.

“What?” He laughed genuinely. “It was an honest question. Just seems like if people gave you everything that it would seem kinda...,” he pursed his lips, searching before finally grasping the word. “Hollow? I don’t know. Guess not.”

He tried not to laugh again when she reacted so irate when he nudged her hand. Since she had actually listened, however, he kept his smile soft, kind, and put his hand over hers. “Nobody likes losing. True,” he agreed, his fingers trying to gently get hers to loosen over the controls, “But you won’t be able to win if you break the controller, Baby Fitch.”

She really didn't see the point in a car with super powers -she sure as shit would not drive anything full of super powered nutjobs like this place was. A powder keg was putting it really lightly for how insane this place was getting.

"They are, you just suck." And then asking about launching shells backwards? "Who are you? Yes you can fire them backwards, you just hold back when you launch one. Why do I know this and you don't?" She knew that Henry was more activities outside than video games, but she thought every boy played video games sometime.

People gave her shit, yes. Sometimes she'd wondered if one of her super powers was suggestive in nature, like she could make someone give her a thing if she just told them to. But she'd been getting her way before her powers developed. "Maybe, like if it was just about having shit that I didn't even want, but it's not like I'm telling people to give me their shoes or whatever." She wasn't exactly a spoiled little brat, because yeah, her mom had told her no before, and her father did have a tendency to buy her shit to make up for not being present as much, but it wasn't like she made him buy her cars she shouldn't be driving or a pony or whatever. "Sometimes I even do it so other people get stuff too." Like the epic shit fit she was going to drop really soon so that Mira could get to teach her how to cook, since the woman lost her damn brother this week and she'd been kick outta the kitchen.

She didn't comment on his moving her hands, because urgh boys and their 'lemme show you' bullshit, but she wasn't exactly in the diva mood to slap him away -and because it was Henry, not just some rando grossly over masculine douchecanoe. "What've I told you about calling me that."

Why do I know this and you don’t?

Henry’s brow knitted together. Truth be told, he was a little embarrassed he’d never picked up on that throughout all his years playing the game – though, to be fair, it hadn’t always been sober. Finally, he shrugged and clapped one hand against his knee. “I guess my brain can only hold so much information at a time, y’know?”

He grinned and tried not to chuckle too hard when she admitted that sometimes she used her wily charms for the good of others, too, thank you very much. “Aw, you’re a marshmallow, Baby Fitch!” And even though he was teasing and laughing, Henry was also quite certain that, were he in a bind and needed someone on his side, he’d be very lucky to have both the Fitches in his corner. Beyond lucky, really.

Once Summer had successfully loosened her hand from the death grip, he patted her wrist in a friendly, jaunty way before he settled back into scooping fistfuls of trail-mix into his mouth. “Sorry, sorry,” he mumbled through his food. “Would you prefer Miss Fitch?”

Her eyes rolled at his comment, because duh, that was a given. She just never thought her brain would know more about video games than his did, but whatever. Clearly Henry wasn't superior at that. He could be all athletic and muscled and whatever, she'd just take the video game crown along with all the others she clearly had over him.

Being called a marshmallow was probably supposed to be a compliment, given how he'd said it, but all she could think about was how sticky they were. But fine, if that was meant to be good things, she'd just take it.

Taking on the next level, and whoever had swapped out with the sorest loser, Summer tried to keep her grip a little loose, rather than strangling the controller. She didn't mind if she wasn't instantly the first person off -Yoshi and his girlfriend were terrible at starting- but she always had to get one of the power packs at the first check or she'd be mad. "How about Summer, which is my name? I don't even mind when people shorten it to Sum, which is dumb, but my friends insisted it was 'cool'." She was not an arithmetic problem, why didn't the just call her Red like her dad?

“Uh, I think your friends were lying to you,” Henry replied after he finished chewing a mouthful of snacks. Sum seemed like an odd nickname to give her. Though, arguably, so was Baby Fitch. It just seemed to be appropriate. It worked. It suited her. The youngest Fitch – Simon’s little sister. “I think my nickname for you is much, much better than a mathy one.”

Henry leaned back, casual and comfortable, watching as Summer started kicking butt on the course. One of the other players nearby was doing exactly what she’d been doing before in practically crushing their controller as they, frustrated, tried to get into the lead.

Unsuccessfully, of course.

“How about I just call you Red, then?” He offered, his only real attempt at a compromise.

"No shit," yeah, she knew they were making it up, but shit, they were her friends and it wasn't like she let anyone else call her anything but Summer, or Miss Fitch depending on who it was and how she was feeling. Summer knew she could be real bratty.

"Your nickname is a way to keep me childlike and annoyed with you, I'd recommend you don't use it when the subject is old enough to see how much damage your retinas take before you go blind." She threw a smirk, although she wasn't really taking her eyes off the screen because she was not losing this round thank you very much.

She very nearly ran off the course, but regained her composure quickly, "That's fine." Her dad stopped using it ages ago, around about the time he got hyper focused on his agenda and Summer was a distraction from what was important. "I like Red."

Henry frowned. “It’s not to make you seem childlike,” he argued, even as he started to wonder. Was that part of it? Summer was certainly an adult, and only a couple of years younger than him, but she was still his best friend’s little sister, and therefore it was totally off limits for him to see her as anything but Baby Fitch.

And maybe it wasn’t fair to rub that in? Ugh. He was confused.

Shocker, he thought.

Despite her smirk, and her slight hiccup on the course, Henry could tell how very intensely focused she was on the game. He grinned and reached over, giving her chin a slight, playful pinch before he dove his hand back into the bowl of snacked goods. “Red it is, then.”
