WHO Everyone
WHAT Post-death, post-trauma, post-excitement party to blow off some steam for everyone on the base
WHEN Forward-dated to Saturday June 16th (night)
WHERE Leisure rooms, etc (if people wander off).
RATING Please mark your threads if they start to veer into mature territory

In the wake of the tragedies at Limbo, the party had seemed extremely trivial – maybe even a little inappropriate. But since everything had already been ordered, and people seemed to need something to cheer them up now more than ever, Amber and Chloe had forged ahead, and spent the entire Saturday decorating, preparing, baking, and arranging. By the time they were done with the leisure rooms, they were decked out with multi-coloured lights and cheeky neon signage, tables overflowing with snacks, baked goods, soda and water bottles, tubs full of ice that were brimming with all kinds of liquor, and speakers blasting decidedly very upbeat music meant to inspire fellow residents to shake off their troubles (if possible) and dance.

C1 (the entertainment room) skewed blue and purple. The gaming consoles were left hooked up, in case anyone wanted to get into some drunk Mario Kart battles in-between all the massive amounts of tasty snacks set up around the room. C2 (the movie theatre) had films set up for the entire night and a table full of beer and coolers prepared inside -- people would be able to happily enjoy Animal House, The Hangover, 21 Jump Street, Wedding Crashers, Oldschool and Superbad into the wee hours of the morning. C3 (the old fashioned game room) leaned towards a red motif -- all kinds of low lighting and much gentler music to allow people to talk and enjoy mellower company. And, of course, there remained plenty of floor space in case anyone decided to break out Twister. C4 (activity suite) was transformed into the closest thing to a club they could manage within their means and had the most impressive speaker system, leaving plenty of room for people to dance. C5 (the laser tag room) was decked out for karaoke -- assuring that anyone who wanted to embarrass themselves in public absolutely could, all with the benefit of some beautiful, bright yellow spotlights.

[OOC: this is posted ahead to give you more time to play the event out before it passes in real time. Everyone who lives, works, etc. at the facility would be able to stop into this thing at any point. Have fun!]

“Why would someone sing Somebody to Love as a solo? I don’t… I don’t get it.” Henry ran his hand through his short hair and braced his hands at the empty seat at the woman’s table. Still facing the small stage that had been constructed for the karaoke machine, Henry was watching with an incredulous expression.

At least the majority of the crowd seemed to be enjoying it; some even joining in and singing right along with their main Queen performer for the evening.

Henry, meanwhile, just hung his head and sighed. He could not possibly stay drunk enough for this.

“If I could carry a tune, I would get up there and show them how it’s done, but—odds are… uh,” well, he’d just sound intensely worse, especially if he was on his own. Maybe he could badger Simon and Summer to join him up there. Or Waverley – that’d be quite the duet.

Susan turned her head to regard the tall dark and on idle reflection handsome who was bracing his hands on the empty seat to her right. "Maaaaaybe he's all about audience participation?" Susan offered though her lips pulled into a distinct grimace as what she thought could have been a note if it hadn't been strangled and drowned under water hit a particular stride of the song.

"Wooooow," she said before taking a rather generous sip of her drink. "That is, well, that is something else."

She hadn't done karaoke since college and even then she'd been way too sober for the entire occasion because she could remember every moment rather vividly. "You got a name?" She asked, head tipping to look at Henry.

“I guess,” Henry shrugged, thinking that she was giving this dude way too much credit. “Maybe he should, I don’t know, let people know that upfront? Like hey guys, sing along, you all know the words sort of deal? I don’t know.”

He watched as she tried to dull her senses by laying into her drink, grinning all the while. “You want a refill or something? What’s your drink of choice?”

When she asked for his name, Henry took that as an invitation – of sorts – to join her table. Turning the chair around, he sat on it so that his chest was pressed against the back of the chair. Extending his hand towards her, his smile intensified—kind, as usual. “Henry. What about you?”

What was her drink of choice? A cursory sniff confirmed that currently it was vodka, very strong vodka with just a hint of something else. Oh right, cranberry. "Currently it is a vodka and cranberry."

She turned her head to meet Henry's smile with one of her own as she reached over to take a hold of his hand. "I'm Susan, but ugh I hate that, people call me Susie."

Much better than... Susan. Honestly what had her parents been thinking?

"And if you're offering I will not turn a refill down."

He grinned and nodded. Susan was a rather old-fashioned name – and as a twenty-plus guy with the name Henry? He totally understood not digging the old classics. “Susie. Cool. Nice to meet you, Susie!”

With her drink order in mind and a refill ordered, Henry nodded, strolled over to the little drink station, and started mixing. He leaned a little harder on the cranberry than the vodka (he didn’t want to be accused of trying to ply the poor girl with alcohol – and who knew how strong she wanted it?) but soon he was walking back to her table with a refilled drink in one hand and a beer in the other.

Even if he wasn’t feeling the buzz too hard for too long, it could be fun while it lasted. Stupid regenerative healing!

“Here you are, m’lady,” he put her drink down in front of her and took a seat again. “That seems like the type of thing you should say to someone named Susan—Susie,” he corrected himself.

Susan's lips tugged into an amused smile when Henry came back with her drink and presented it with a flourish, almost. "Why thank you, kind sir." She winked and took a sip of her new drink, figuring if he was going to go the route he was then she might as well play along.

She was honestly making the most of her lockdown bracelet and enjoying the fact she could get buzzed or drunk. Either or. That was not normally a thing that could happen.

"You're new, right?" Susan asked, tipping her head to look at Henry.

“Any time. I’m always good at getting a lady a drink.” And there wasn’t a whole lot that Henry was good at, so he had to take what he could get. She looked like she was enjoying it at least, and didn’t seem irritated by the company, so Henry was glad to keep sitting at her table and enjoying a new acquaintance.

He smiled brightly. “Newish, actually? Haven’t been here long. Longer than I’d care to, of course.” He shook his head and took a few sips from his beer. “Honestly, a long weekend here would have been plenty long enough.”

Running his hand through his short hair, he straightened up in his chair. “What about you? Been caged up here long?”

"Oh I feel you there," Susan said with a distinct nod of her head. "Any time in this place is too long if you ask me especially if you're a speedster and these assholes have locked your power down so every single second feels like a lifetime."

Rambling, oh right, she might be a bit tipsier than she'd originally thought. Whoops?

"Not long here," Susan shared as she tipped her head to look over at Henry. "But I was in prison beforehand. Only recently got picked up by the Regiment."

“A speedster?” He repeated, genuinely curious. “They locked down your powers? Like for good?” Unless they needed them, probably. Henry didn’t know why that surprised him; of course they’d have to do that to people around here. Otherwise they’d never be able to keep this many Supers contained.

When she admitted that she’d been in prison, Henry couldn’t help but eye her with utter surprise. His gaze travelled up and down – not to leer, but because he couldn’t, for a second, imagine it.

Taking a sip from a beer, he then cleared his throat and grinned. “You were in prison?”

"For all intents and purposes yep," Susan said, making sure to put emphasis on the P so the word popped right at the end which perfectly illustrated just how not happy she was about it.

She turned her head in time to catch him giving her a distinct once over, eyebrow lifted. "What? I don't strike you as a hardened criminal?"

A snort followed a second later. "Yeah, for apparently being a terrorist and a danger but honestly last I checked activism wasn't terrorism and I was actually helping people when I got caught. Asshole authorities of course chose to overlook that."

Clearly, she was less than thrilled about the power shut-down. He shouldn’t have been surprised. Anyone who’s path he’d crossed who’d had that whole power-shut-off thing? Yeah, it sounded rather lame to him. “Sorry,” he offered, sounding genuine. “That absolutely blows. Any chance they’ll reverse that?”

Henry had to grin somewhat ruefully when she caught him checking her over. “Might make me sound like a jerk, but if I’m being honest, nah. You might have been one of the last people I’d expect to have served jail time.”

He sipped on his beer while listening to her story. Thankfully, she drowned out the sounds of Queen being butchered. By the time she finished, Henry was frowning and shaking her head. “That’s such bullshit. You do something bad by accident? Bam. You try to do something good? Bam, they get you anyway. Locked up with the key thrown away.” He shouldn’t have been surprised by that, either. That’s how he, Simon and Summer had ended up in this shithole, too.

Okay. Maybe slightly different.

Glancing her way, he gave her an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry. That’s lame. You didn’t deserve that. Or to have your powers locked down. But I now feel compelled to get you extra drinks to celebrate your badassery.”
