Chloe didn’t need to say that she thought Jay was hot. From the heat on the girl’s cheeks and the way she talked about him, Amber got that impression loud and clear. And, for the first time, she didn’t opt to avoid something that Chloe seemed hesitant to talk about. This, at least, seemed like a rather innocent subject to push. “You like him, huh?”
Amber sighed and nodded. “Me neither. But it’s fun to look.”
That must have been hard. She shook her head. “Not really. I always liked kids. I might miss them more than I miss West, to be honest. But I wasn’t really their mama, so…,” so they had been all too happy to have their parents reunite under one roof. Amber wondered if they were still all together.
She smiled shyly when Chloe reminded her that she didn’t have to follow in her family’s footsteps—that she had, in fact, already bucked the trends. “That’s true.”
