Holly chuckled. “I’d expect nothing less,” she reassured Kelly. “I mean, I’d need my own, right, and you’d make one for Evan too, right? We’ve been around you guys long enough to be part of the family.” Someone had to help hold the fort down here, otherwise she knew Evan would have been at the funeral, too. She didn’t understand why Marion wasn’t there, but that was a conversation for another time, she supposed. Not something to burden Kelly with right now. “And we can get Lucas to take a photo of us all and when you guys are let out of this place we can use it as the first Christmas card when you’re all free.”
Or something. Even if she just kept the photo for herself, she had a small collection of pictures from her years with the Deacons, though surprisingly few of just her and Scott. They’d been so careful for such a long time. Being here, knowing they’d only broken up because of the distance, it was difficult. But things changed with time. And really, it was hardly appropriate to think about that right now. It wasn’t what he needed.
Drawing in a breath, Holly folded her arms across her chest and leaned her shoulder against the wall. “Do you think she’ll ever really be ready to talk about it?” She asked, “Or do you think avoiding talking about it - because you all are - is gonna make it so much worse by the time you guys finally broach the subject?”
