Her body didn't relax totally, but she could feel the effects of the panic finally beginning to disappear. She was much more in control and happy to be back to that point. She assumed it was the caffeine bringing her back to a state of balance and okay-ness.
"It just..." Nicky had to pause to really figure out what it was that was striking those exposed nerves in the back of her brain. "It just doesn't feel right." She picked her cup back up and took another nice sip of coffee before she continued. "I've mastered the easiest part of my powers, but the honest truth is that I've never tapped into them completely." She rubbed her fingers across the table where the shadow of her arm was being cast and began to roll it up like it was a piece of paper. The act was practically second nature.
"This," she held it up for Charlie to see clearly, "doesn't even strain me. I could make these all day." She stirred her coffee with the tiny little stick before releasing her hold on the shadow. The item dissolved like a wisp of smoke before returning to its origin. "My teleportation, while difficult, isn't the edge. It's just as far as I can stand to go. Deeper than that is frightening." Nicky had always felt afraid to talk about this with anyone, because she knew it would mean her going back into testing. They suits would want her to achieve her maximum power levels and that wasn't something she cared to even try. "I was always scared of the dark as a kid. I figure that's what stops me." Might as well let it all out. This was probably the last fucking bit of coffee she'd have once the higher ups found that out.
