Characters: James and Remus Setting: Sneaking out onto the grounds Content: Worksafe Summary: James needs advice
It was dark outside, moon obscured by clouds. James sat on the little crest of hill at one of the blind sides of the castle, facing the empty classrooms. He'd left the small, mostly forgotten back corridor for Moony to use, trusting his instincts and his new cloak to keep him hidden.
James shivered, tugging the invisibility cloak more tightly around him. It was a gift from his mother, from Greece. A conciliatory gesture for James' willingness to spend so much time sitting alone in waiting rooms, miserably watching the minutes tick by. James didn't feel pacified by it. He felt angry, and helpless, and all of eleven again. He felt--
"Merlin," he grumbled, irritably skipping a rock across the grass--and nearly clipping Remus' ankles with it. James scrambled up, head appearing in the darkness as the cloak slipped back. "Sorry Moony. I wasn't paying attention."
