WHAT: Our two young prawns farm heroes discuss alliances and why it doesn't suck to be from District 9.
STATUS: Complete.
After taking a quick nap following dinner, Reaper found himself wandering around the District 9 suit trying to find something to do. He couldn’t occupy himself with additional training and at the moment, he didn’t feel like talking with the three Victors. While he knew they were all trying to help, he just didn’t feel like going over game strategy or getting advice on how to avoid his probably imminent death. There was actually only one person he really felt like talking to at the moment, so after grabbing them some snacks of crackers, cheese, and grapes, he made his way to his fellow tributes door and knocked. “Patsy? You awake?” Patsy had been trying to nap, but it wasn’t coming easily despite the fact that she was so tired from all the training and all the stress. She sighed, looked up at the ceiling and shook the covers off herself. Maybe she’d see about getting a snack, but she wasn’t keen on the idea of running into anyone. She froze when she heard the knock, but relaxed upon recognizing Reaper’s voice. She pushed herself off the bed and went to go open the door. “Hi,” she said, giving Reaper a small smile. “I brought food,” he replied as he held up his offerings. Despite being surrounded by meat in the Capitol, he still clung to the largely vegetarian diet from District 9. It somehow felt right and right now he wanted anything that reminded him of home. “Can I come in for a bit?” Patsy’s smile widened ever so slightly at the sight of food. The type of food Reaper had was exactly what she was in the mood for, too. She opened her door more and stepped out of the way. “Yeah, course you can. ‘Specially with food.” Smiling back at her, he shuffled into the room and set down the food on one of the nightstands. “Is it just me, or does food somehow taste better? I mean, we have this stuff here at home, but... I don’t know. Just seems better here.” Patsy helped herself to a grape and some cheese and plopped down on her bed. She thought for a second while she chewed and then nodded. “Yeah. I think you’re right. Probably has some weird fake stuff in it to make it taste better.” “You’re probably right. I heard they have something you drink that makes you throw up so you can eat more. So I wouldn’t put it past them.” Grabbing a handful of grapes himself, Reaper gingerly sat down on the edge of the bed and looked at the floor for a moment as he pondered how to phrase his next thought. “Can I ask you a question?” he asked after a few moments before he popped a grape into his mouth. “I heard about that, too. Meanwhile people are starvin’ back home,” she said, before reaching for some crackers. She munched away at them, feeling a little guilty for it. “Uh, yeah, sure. Ask away,” Patsy gave Reaper a curious look. It really was ridiculous, though he suspected the Capitolites had no idea how it appeared to the district people. Then again, mostly everything Reaper had seen in the Capitol was ridiculous. The Hunger Games were just the icing on the giant cake for them. “What are your feelings on alliances?” Patsy’s immediate reaction was to shrug and stuff a few more grapes in her mouth to think for a second. “Well… I haven’t talked to that many people save the boy from 5 and the girls from 6 and 8. I don’t really trust a lot of them though. They’re gonna fall apart eventually and I think I could do well enough without them. What are you thinking?” “Yeah. I’ve really only talked to people from 5 and 6 too. And a bit with the girl from 8.” Reaper felt a bit better than Patsy had talked to them as well. “But yeah. I get what you’re saying about the trust thing. Guess I’m just trying to figure out if an alliance would be worth it and all.” “They all seemed nice enough. And I’m pretty sure I could take them all in a fight. But I don’t really see how that helps me much, you know? They seem so young, too!” Patsy pondered for another second. If only they knew more about what the arena would be like. She didn’t feel like she had enough information to make a decision. “I don’t know though, maybe it’d be worth it? They do have skills we don’t, especially if the arena isn’t real outdoorsy.” “We’re young too,” he laughed. Or at least he was younger than Patsy and in the grand scale of things, even she was still considered young. “Yeah. That’s what I’ve been thinking. I think we would be fine in a nature one. But I don’t know how we would do if it was an abandoned city or something. 5, 6, and 8 probably know that stuff better.” “I guess so,” she said with a small laugh of her own. Reaper had a point; she wasn’t that old. “I guess we just decide if that’s the risk worth taking, then. Have you talked to anyone else about it yet?” Patsy figured Grim and Maizy could give good advice and maybe even Rake, though she wasn’t entirely sure what his deal was yet. “A little bit. Kinda told me people win with alliances and win without them. So I don’t know.” Sighing, Reaper flopped back in the bed and stared up at the ceiling for a few moments. “I’m just worried what would happen in an industrial arena. It might be nice to have people on our side who do, at least for a little bit. But even that will end eventually.” At one point, it would even end between him and Patsy. Patsy frowned, considering what Reaper said. Finally she looked over at him. “I think if we do team up with someone it should only be one other district, though. Too complicated if it’s more. Don’t you think?” “Yeah. Totally. Less to keep track of too.” Plus two on two seemed like a fair advantage in a fight. “And I was thinking maybe people from Five or Six? Unless you’ve been talking to others.” “No, no others. Haven’t even talked to them that much really. But yeah. Five or six is good. I don’t really have a preference so maybe just whichever wants us more. That is, if they want us at all. But I think we’ve got a chance. Someone should want us!” “Seriously.” Concerning people wanting alliances with them, Reaper was in complete agreement. “I don’t think people understand how farming works or else they would realize we’d make kick ass alliance partners. Hello. We all but live outdoors.” “Exactly,” Patsy nodded. “We’re strong. Stronger than we look, too. We’re used to working all day long.” Of course, she didn’t need to tell Reaper that. He knew already what their advantages were. “Totaly their losses. But yeah. I think we should just see if anyone wants us,” he agreed with a nod as well. “And if no one does, then screw them. We’ll go at it just by ourselves. We don’t need them ultimately.” That made Patsy smile a little bit again. “Yeah. You’re right. It’d be nice to have a bit help but it not, no big deal. We can manage either way.” “Yeah. We’ll manage. Fuck the Careers. District 9 will win in this year.” While they both knew the odds were not in their favor on a win for their district, Reaper still had a small amount of hope in his voice that perhaps it was true. |
