Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Fleur and Bill
When: Thursday afternoon
Where: Shell Cottage
What: A reunion of sorts
Warning/rating: At least PG for talk of violence

It wasn't a coincidence that the Death Eaters had dropped Fleur off so close to home. They had intended for her to go home, to want to go home. What they hadn't intended was the hindrance of a blizzard. Yet even that didn't matter as long as she found her way and after wondering around a bit in the show she had.

"Bill?" Fleur called out him in a hushed whisper in a moment of lucidity. He had to be there didn't he? Who would go out in such a blizzard?

So she stood there shivering a moment and waited; a silent pale statue still dressed in the blue satin ballgown she had been wearing the night of the Masquerade, the night she had disappeared. The snow had soaked her hair and dress and stole the warmth of her skin but other than that she appeared untouched, unharmed. Except she was missing her shoes.

She had been sent as a birthday present of both the best and worse sort.

Fleur looked at her husband for a long moment. "And the negotiation was not worth it either," she said flatly. At one time she had been upset about it but now it didn't seem to matter as much. It hurt but not as much as everything else she had been through.

"Tout le monde." It felt like everyone anyhow. "I... I..." Fleur shook her head as her face twisted into first a pout and then a frown. Truth was she didn't know who. It was all a blank. "What did they do to me?" It was a rhetorical question. One that made her want to crawl out of her skin and she tried extract herself from Bill's arms, from the one place she at least a little safe but the folds of the dress made it hard.

Now she was getting agitated. Not so much at Bill but at herself for her confusion and certainty of her memories. "No, she is dead! They made me sit there for hours... days," more like weeks in reality, "And I could not help her! I can still hear her screams... They never go away never." And at that she was crying again. "It is all my fault Bill."

"I'm not crazy. I am not." Though at this point Fleur was certain she was more trying to convince herself than him. She certainly sounded it.

It was every fear that Bill had rose to the surface. "I didn't have what they wanted." He felt her struggle a little in his arms but he didn't let her go. Bill knew he was much stronger than his delicate wife even when she was in full health. Maybe he should have let her pull away from him but the thought was incomprehensible to him. Unless she really struggled and hold him to let her go, it simply wasn't happening.

Fleur did sound slightly crazy but she also sounded very sure. He gently cupped her cheek to make her look into his eyes. "You did everything you could. There was nothing you could do. You're not crazy. They either did something to your sister or they made you think that they did as some form of torture. Either way, the memories are real and you aren't crazy."

Looking down into his wife's eyes tears formed in his. She was his perfect Fleur. She was so precious to him and he was unhinged when she was gone. Yes there was a war and yes they fought in it. But Fleur was the foundation on which he had built this life with her that he loved. Bill needed Fleur and while he had never doubted that fact before he certainly knew it in a more fundamental way now. "I love you."

She gave him a look; a look she always gave him when the answer wasn't what she expected to hear. None of them actually had possession of the wanted object but they all knew where it was kept. Though when she thought about it, Fleur realized it didn't really matter much any more. The past couldn't be undone.

There were many times, more than she cared to admit, that Fleur got caught up in her own little world and she had slipped back into that habit. His tears reminded her that she wasn't the only one hurting. "I love you too Bill," Fleur told him as she wrapped her arms around him and rested against him.

"I want to see my sister." It would make her feel better to know that she really was okay.
