Who: Alexander Yaxley and Roger Davies
When: This morning
Where: Auror Dept, Ministry
What: Run-in at the Ministry
Warnings/Rating: PG for language b/c Alexander has a potty mouth

There were a few things Alexander enjoyed at work and having to go down to the Aurors office was not one of them. It was no secret that their office wasn't exactly Death Eater friendly but he wasn't entirely convinced it was Pro-Order either. It meant that there was still a battle to be fought there and alliances to be won or at least found out and that was what he meant to do at the moment.

"Which one of you is assigned to work that Carnival disaster?" Alexander asked pretending an air of concern while he did his best to hide a snicker. It really was a piece of art on the part of the Death Eaters, Voldermort had been more than pleased. Though today he had to act his part and fake concern over the incident. "Right, you come with me." He said motioning to Roger Davies, a man he knew more by face than by name.

"Update me and keep it quick."

He was enjoying this far too much.

Yaxley.

Great. One person he didn’t want to start the morning off with. Why was he even here? Last he’d checked the man wasn’t in charge of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. But, right, it must be about the Inferi invasion. Roger hadn’t been on scene at the time of the attack, but he’d heard and saw enough. Silently cursing his luck, he rose up from his seat, slipping a hand into his pants’ pocket. “We’ve still got nothing on the perpetrators,” he started, his expression impassive, “but there’s been talk of Ministry involvement.” A pause. “Which is bloody ridiculous.” Not really.

The recent public vandalism was creating unnecessary unease amongst the civilians which was the last thing anyone needed right now though. “But, thanks to Paint Bomb Revolution 101, more witnesses have been stepping up to give their accounts on the incident. Ironically. We’re currently piecing everything together.” Giving a light shrug of his shoulder, he went on, “It’s slow, but we’re making steady progress.” He arched an inquisitive brow at him, still not entirely sure why any of this specifically concerned him, “Is that all you wanted to know?”

A smug look settled on his face as he listened to what Roger had to tell him. It took them long enough to figure it out. Something like that could have only been pulled off from within the Ministry considering the security details that had been set up. "Well certainly you understand the need to find these individuals. It would make everyone feel much safer," not that there was much the Ministry could actually do to touch those responsible. "We need to assure people that we had nothing to do with this." They didn't need a rebellion on their hands.

"Keep making progress," Alexander said with a shrug not really concerned with it. "Just wanted an update of sorts. People ask questions you know especially those bloody reporters. Always trying to spin stories..."

He grinned as he plucked an invisible speck of dirt off his robes. "This one today had something like all the heads of the Department were into it. That it has been in the works for weeks and that there was planning between those in charge and those terrible people that leave the Mark in the sky." It was closer to the truth than anyone would have guessed. Maybe he was bragging a little too.

"It was like a carnival trick gone bad don't you think? Too bad it wasn't Halloween." He said with a snicker.

He couldn’t believe how much nerves this bloke had. Too bad it wasn’t Halloween? There were innocent people hurt in the attack and he had the fuckin’ nerves to joke about it. Merlin’s beard, did he want to wipe that smug smile off of his goddamn face. His jaw set rigidly for a flicker of a second before it completely smoothed out. A casual smile transpired on his face, a brief twitch at the corner the only sign of it being forced. He’d mastered the ability to conceal his emotions throughout the years and it really came in handy when he had to work with a bunch of dicks. To put it nicely.

“Yeah, that would have been something, alright,” he let out a small chuckle, rubbing the side of his neck, “but we’ll get on it. Rumors like that will blow over eventually once we’ve caught the bastards who’d done this.” Or, rather, the scapegoats. It was a no brainer that the Death Eaters had a hand in it and, given the fact that the Ministry was currently under DE control, he could bet his ass that there will be a convenient cover up sooner or later – some poor git loyal enough to take on the blame. Considering it’d take quite a powerful Dark wizard to utilize a full out Inferi assault, Roger could only wonder who they’d choose to sacrifice. “But, man, you really have to hand it to the reporters, coming up with all these crazy ideas.”

"Hmm, it would have been." Alexander said an easy smirk finding its way to his features. Yes, he was a bit of an arse but part of the fun was seeing the reaction it brought out on people. Watching them struggle to contain their desire to hex him or whatever but this man seemed to be experience almost none of that. It was a shame really because it meant that he had to keep being nice. Pity.

Catch the people responsible... Now that he mentioned it maybe they should consider doing just that. The problem was who was brilliant enough to conceive such a plan but stupid enough to take the blame for it? There wasn't many that fit the bill. He would have to start looking.

"Where do they get all that rubbish, honestly?" Alexander said smoothly as he glanced around the room before his dark eyes settled back on Roger. "I mean we all work very hard around here to assure the safety and happiness of as many people as we can. It would be nice for once to be recognized for that and not blamed every time something goes wrong. Wouldn't it?" He was certainly testing the man and his loyalty at every turn but hey, these things were good to know.

Sure they did. Ensuring safety and happiness when it convenience them. He was tempted to voice his opinion out loud, but it wouldn’t have been a smart move. Roger could already hear his best friend’s voice in his head. Right. Don’t act rash. Don’t let his temper get the better of him. Just keep a smile on his face and say what he needed to say. After all, he was a neutral party in all of this, so, even if he disagreed with what the Death Eaters were doing, it didn’t mean he should throw away the advantage of being able to work and live a generally carefree life.

“They need to keep their readers interested,” he pointed out, giving a light shrug of his shoulder, “and, if that means painting us as the bad guys, well, heck, what do they have to lose?” He wasn’t against the people voicing their opinions; hell, good for them. But, given the choices some of them have made to get their messages across, he was beginning to think it was doing more harm than actual good. “I can’t vouch for everyone in the Ministry,” he continued nonchalantly, “No one can. But all I know is that I’ve been working my damnedest to keep the streets safe and keep the peace. If they can’t even acknowledge that much, then why the bloody hell are we still doing our jobs?” A sigh. “This will all blow over soon. They’ll find some new piece of meat to chew on and then we’ll be scot free again.”

"What they need is to get a bloody real job," Alexander said letting the venom slowly seep into his voice. He had a lot of hate for a lot of professions but the writing ones were at the top of his list right behind mudbloods and traitors. "We do it because some of us are working for further goals." Now if they were the same goals or not was another issue entirely.

He shook his head. "Right while people continued to mark up the streets and the shops." Alexander was hoping people would dismiss the act as nothing more than vandalism. They didn't need something else to contend with. "Or we will get a band of half intelligent prats trying to cause more issues because you know we don't have enough to do every god damn day."
