Who: Fleur and Annabelle
When: This afternoon
Where: Diagon Alley
What: Random run in between old friends
Warnings/Rating: PG-ish?

A frown worked its way onto her face as Fleur studied the flowers the vendor showed off to her. They were just wrong. For one there was a dozen of them and French people did not do a dozen flowers, it was disrespectful to even sell them one. Was it really that hard for the vendor to remove one? Every time she asked they told her no and it was irking her hence the frown on her face. Her bouquet for her house wouldn't be perfect with twelve flowers.

"Non non non," Fleur said shaking her head deciding it wasn't worth it and she could just get her flowers elsewhere. If not she could surely just conjure up a perfect pair of eleven white tulips. Maybe daffodils would be better?

Turning she could not help but practically run into a familiar red haired woman. A forced smile spread across her lips, "Bon jour Annabelle," Fleur said lightly a slight trace of annoyance sneaking into her voice. It was no secret the two women weren't rather found of each other. In fact they had spent their school years competing over everything and anything. "Comment allez-vous?"

Annabelle was in a bad mood. Not because of something that happened. Oh Merlin, no. It was just the simple fact that every store front seemed to be loaded with miniature cupids and silly hearts. Valentines Day was slowly approaching, and Annabelle just wanted it to be over. It was rising spirits and people were starting to spread that silly love thing everywhere. Annabelle's idea of a Valentine? Cutting out a real heart and sending it to someone.

Perhaps that was what she would do to some of these ridiculous people. Moving carefully through the crowd so she didn't touch anyone, Annabelle began this planning. How painful would it be to send the heart of a loved one to their Valentine? Finally, a small grin appeared.

Annabelle was distracted for just that one second until she almost ran into an old friend. Almost every inch of skin was covered, just in case someone did try to touch her. It was disgusting. Annabelle didn't even bother forcing a smile, oh no, she had the upper hand currently. A true smile formed on her lips. "Bonjour Fleur," it was such nature to speak French to the blonde. "Je vais bien, et vous?" Speaking of hearts, how she wished she could destroy Fleur's.

Tersely, Fleur ran her fingers through her long glossy blonde locks. It was never a good thing to run into her schoolmate but it was even more now and both ladies knew it. "Très bien," she said lightly trying to keep the annoyance from creeping into her voice but failing miserably at it. It was no secret their shared dislike.

"I thought you were still hiding in that cave of yours," Fleur commented in an off-handed manner. Maybe she shouldn't taunt the suspected Death Eater in public but this was how it was with them. It was a constant game of trying to one up the other. "I remember how you disliked dirty things."

It was more fun for Annabelle this time, it seemed. "C'est bien mon ami." So maybe Annabelle was just wanting to taunt the blonde. Neither of them could do anything in public, but if they did Annabelle would be let off the hook far more easily. That mark on her left arm gave her a free pass when it came to killing in public. For now, at least.

Annabelle's smile didn't falter, and she didn't even allow the comments to push her buttons. Even though she was already in a terrible mood, this seemed to have made it a little better. "Oh yes, you are quite right. I can't stand dirty things. Luckily, it seems a lot of that trash has been taken out."

Fleur raised her eyebrows and suppressed a chuckle. Some people didn't ever change and then again it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. When it came to their personalities Fleur and Annabelle were about as compatible as oil and water. Then again they did share a few traits and that was what made them butt heads repeatedly.

"Oui but you need to be careful were they dump the rubbish, it might end up on your doorstep." Fleur said with a taunting smirk but she knew no one would be that bold as to do it publicly to a suspected DE. Fleur harbored no doubt that Annabelle was one of her ranks though she would never say it to her face.

Maybe Annabelle was a little offset when Fleur raised her eyebrows and was that a chuckle that didn't actually reach formation? Whatever it was, Annabelle felt her anger rise just a little. No, she wouldn't do anything here. Later. Later, she would take all of her anger out on some poor unsuspecting victim. Wouldn't Fleur like to know what she caused? That thought seemed to keep Annabelle going with the conversation.

"How right you are. Though wouldn't it be fun to have that trash on my doorstep? I could then get rid of it properly. It's quite easy just to light a fire and watch it burn." Annabelle might have been a little more brave than she should have been, but it didn't matter now. Putting images of murder in Fleur's mind was what her new goal was.

Fleur's pretty face twisted at the imagine being painted by the red head. It was disgusting and twisted. Then again so was the woman that was painting the image so maybe she shouldn't be surprised. Though she figured it was just a scare tactic.

"You and your friends would enjoy that wouldn't you?" She asked a little too boldly. Public really wasn't the place to make such accusations but it was also a safe option as no one, Annabelle included, would try anything major in a public space. "You always were fond of the dégoûtant things."

Oh yes, Annabelle felt like she had the upper hand once again. How she wanted to make the image more visible for Fleur, but that wouldn't happen until the following week. Annabelle was already thinking of what she would do to ruin the others day. Where could she find strands of blonde hair?

"Perhaps we would. We all don't like trash and filth littering our streets and stores." Annabelle was enjoying this little game now. If anyone asked outright, Annabelle would admit to her affiliation in a heartbeat. "Bien sûr, il est beaucoup plus intéressant que une vie assez peu ennuyeux."

More than anything Fleur wanted to roll her eyes but she didn't. Instead the pool of sapphire that were her eyes glanced at something over Annabelle's shoulder. She was bold but she was far from stupid. There would be no blatant insults in public.

"I am sure you would but unfortunately you do not have much of a choice do you? You just have to live with it," Fleur taunted as she shifted the bag on her arm to a more favorable position. She was clearly enjoying their little banter.

"Je ne sais pas que je ne vis pas une vie ennuyeuse. Pas tous d'entre nous souffrent du même mal, Annabelle."

It was very unfortunate that Fleur wouldn't do something of the sort. Annabelle would have just loved to be able to feign hurt and do something about the blonde. Though, Annabelle did wonder what she would have to say to make the woman do something or say something. Of course, she knew it would take much more than silly banter in the street.

"Perhaps only for now. Hopefully for not much longer. There is something so disgusting in pollution." It only sounded as if they were talking about the rubbish on the ground, and not actual human lives. Lives that Annabelle just wanted to get rid of. Meaningless to her.

"Je ne peux m'empêcher de vouloir faire du monde un endroit beaucoup mieux que ce qu'elle est déjà." Annabelle said far too innocently.

"Fortunately for us pollution is in the eye of the beholder," Fleur pointed out with a small smug smile. She knew perfectly well what it was they were talking about and had the circumstances been different she would have laughed at the clueless tendencies of those around her. Could people really be that dense? "And that is not up to you to clean it up."

Her blue eyes narrowed at her next statement hardly fooled by Annabelle's smile and instead irked at the disguised malice in her statement. "Remerciez le Dieu au-dessus que de telles décisions ne reposent pas avec vous. Que les appropriés les gens ont toujours sortir par le haut à la fin ..." Fleur knew Annabelle, she knew her temper and she knew she probably shouldn't remind the red head of how she always seemed to some how win but she couldn't help it. Annabelle had a way of getting under her skin.

"Unfortunately so." Annabelle seemed to scrunch her nose as she looked around the Alley once again. It was still too busy for her taste, and she was sure all of the people who walked the streets had questionable blood. "Still, dirt is still dirt." Had she been more direct, it would have been of a comment that blood was still dirty, regardless of the beholder.

Annabelle kept her smile, though her lips might have twitched just a little. Oh yes, Annabelle was second in the class. Perhaps she should have placed her name in the Goblet so long ago so she could have had the same favoritism. "Comme cela est vrai. Ceux qui en fait la force sera toujours sortir par le haut. N'ayant rien à perdre. Dites-moi, comment est ta sœur? Bien, je l'espère." Annabelle never had qualms about threatening in public. Oh no, she wanted to see how far she could push Fleur and see what could come of it. It was only fun for now.

Fleur rolled her eyes but let the topic drop as it stood. It wasn't like arguing was going to do her any good. Annabelle was who she was and she wasn't ever going to change her views and well... Fleur wasn't sure she even wanted to try. It would mean admitting there was something there worth redeeming and she wasn't sure there was.

At the question about her sister Fleur's head snapped up as her eyes narrowed with a renewed intensity at the comment about her sister. If it was meant to get a rise out of her it had worked. Gabrielle always had been and always was one of her most treasured people, so much so at times it was more like a mother child bond than sisters.

"My sister is none of your concern," she told her dropping back into English so that they were perfectly clear. Fleur knew she shouldn't take the bait but she felt the need to make it clear her intentions. "Stay away from her." Their games between the two of them was fine but there was no way she was going to involve her sweet and innocent twelve year old sister.

It didn't even matter what had happen, this was what Annabelle had been waiting for since she almost ran into the blonde. Oh, she had known it would be a soft spot for Fleur. A very soft spot, apparently. A sly grin tugged at Annabelle's lips and she didn't let her gaze move from Fleur. Oh yes, she felt as though she had the upper hand once again. There was so much that could be said, and she almost wondered how far she could push the other woman.

"No, you're right, she isn't any of my concern." There was a 'yet' that seemed to hang in the air between them. Maybe Annabelle had other ideas for the little Veela, but not yet. Fleur didn't have to know any of that. Already ideas were forming in her mind and she couldn't help her smile from widening. Annabelle had no real boundaries of what was fair fighting.

"At least she is still far away, and safe within the walls of school?" Was Gabrielle that age? Annabelle couldn't remember.

Fleur's blue eyes flashed a moment as there was a tiny crack in the perfect veneer that was Fleur. It was common knowledge that you never let your enemy know your weakness and she had slip and now she was already behind the eight ball. Oh well. Fleur wasn't much to play by the rules anyhow.

"She is no where you can touch her," Fleur said in a soft hiss as she tool a step closer to the redhead. Her hand in her pocked closed around her wand but she kept from drawing it because that could be considered an open act of hostility. Annabelle didn't have to say her intentions for them to be made clear. Fleur was far from stupid.

"How about you pick on someone your own size?" Fleur challenged her blue eyes still fierce. "Or are you afraid you won't measure up and lose again? As I seem to recall you are well acquainted with second place... And you know what they say about second place? It is the first place loser."
