Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Tonks & Regulus Black
WHAT: Tonks is bored. Exploration occurs.
WHERE: Colligo Streets
WHEN: Morning
STATUS: In Progress

No war, no worries, and a hell of a lot of confusion on her behalf had lead Tonks to spending the majority of her time closed up in her room idling between reading and watching everyone else on the network. But that had started to get really boring, really quick. After a couple days worth of cabin fever, she finally decided that it was about time that she put that old Tonks spirit and Black intuition to work and start figuring out exactly what this place had to offer.

It was no London, that was undeniable, but the time that she had spent locked away in her room was time wasted doing much more active things. Hell, she hadn't even bothered to do any of her training drills since she'd gotten here. Merlin, she was going to be so out of shape whenever she got back.

Maybe that would be the first thing to attend to. Nothing like a decent workout in the morning.

Regulus was restless. He'd finally managed to get his hair back to its normal dark color rather than the bright pink that Severus had changed it to during their prank war. He still needed to get that arse back for what he'd done (never mind that it was simply in retaliation for what he'd done to Severus' PDA earlier). But he was still trying to think of a proper return prank and staying closed up in his room wasn't really helping. The younger Black brother thought maybe getting out and wandering a bit would be a good kick in the arse for his thoughts.

It was while he was wandering that he nearly walked straight into a woman with wildly colored hair, frighteningly similar to the color his had been not too long ago. He chuckled to himself and shook his head. Though, there was something very familiar about her. One eyebrow delicately rose as he pondered this and studied her face. Yes, something familiar, but he was fairly certain that he'd never met her before. How odd...

Skidding to a stop almost as instantly as the other individual did, the one problem that Tonks found that she had was that her feet refused to stay firmly planted on the ground, instead, hooking in next to each other and sending her tumbling the rest of the way forward and into him. Her cheeks colored the same hue as her hair as she managed to stumble backwards, offering him an apologetic smile.

"I really am dead clumsy. You'd think I could do something as simple as stop without making a right arse out of myself, wouldn't you?" Tonk said, raising a hand to rub nervously at the back of her neck. Great way to make a first impression, really.

Bugger. Who in the world was this, anyway? Tonks had only been half paying attention to the network. Not that those fuzzy little pictures did much of any help as far as identifying people that you didn't know went.

"Sorry about that. Really."

Regulus' eyes went wide as the woman stumbled fully into him, putting his hands out in an effort both to stop her, then to attempt to put her upright again. She managed to get herself back properly on her feet with minimal effort from him, something Regulus was grateful for. He brushed the front of his shirt off after offering her a brief glance to ensure that she was finally standing safely and straightened the fabric until it was crisp again.

"It's fine. Really," he said calmly, though whether or not it was actually fine remained to be seen. The lack of enthusiasm in his voice could have meant that it was really fine and he was just bored, or that it wasn't fine and he was already plotting to smother the other in her sleep. However, Regulus was mostly bored and already unamused by the clumsy girl and her hyperactive ways.

He did, however, peer carefully at her again. There really was something startlingly familiar about her. He just couldn't quite put his finger on it.

"I'm sorry, have we met?" he asked finally, though he was loathe to.

Despite the fact that she was pretty sure that it was anything but fine (really, who smooths out the ruffs in their shirt with an exact precision and then act as though nothing had happened?), the question distracted her enough that she didn't comment on it. Instead, she just took a step back, tilting her head to the side with a vague curiosity. Huh. He did look...vaguely familiar. She couldn't for the life of her put her finger on exactly where or why, but...

"There's a distinct possibility," Tonks said with a slight amusement in her voice. "Can't for the life of me recall a name, but your face is definitely striking some chord in the old brain box. Name's Tonks. You?"

She knew that the Dreaded Question would likely come soon, but hopefully, that would be enough. Tonks wasn't exactly a common name, after all.

Tonks. Tonks. That name rang a bell, but why? Regulus racked his brain until a memory of the family tapestry flashed in his mind. His cousin Andromeda had been blasted off. For marrying a man named Tonks. His eyebrow rose again as he continued to study the girl in front of him. She had said simply "Tonks," not whether or not that was her first name or last. He couldn't imagine why anyone would name their daughter Tonks, but who knew how muggles functioned these days?

But the similarity was too much to ignore. She wasn't Andromeda, of that he was sure. But then who was she? And how badly did she hate him? He really wasn't in the mood to flee his past and explain himself again, but he could practically see it coming.

"You're related to Andromeda, aren't you?" It wasn't so far-fetched, after all. People were here from all different times. Maybe it was Andromeda's daughter? Now there was a thought. Regulus really hated this whole time travel, multidimensional thing.

"She's my Mum, yeah," Tonks said, a little confused by the question. Wouldn't that much have been obvious to anyone that had known her mother? There weren't many bouncy hyperactive girls with pink hair and the last name Tonks that could be accounted for, after all, but still... "Do you know her or something, because she's pretty damn insistent about me meeting everyone that she knows? I'm pretty sure I would at least be able to call up a name or...something for you if I had. You know, unless I was a little bit, but you don't look that much older than I do."

And that was an unnecessary bit of rambling.

"So. You going to give me a name or not?"

"Oh bloody hell." The muttered words were out of his mouth before Regulus could even attempt to stop them. "Your mum?" Fabulous. Just fabulous. Someone else to hate him. Maybe she and Sirius could start a club. The younger Black felt like slapping a hand to his forehead in frustration.

"You haven't met me," he began, sounding much calmer now. Good ol' Black composure. Even though he was cursing himself on the inside for even stepping out his door today, he was perfectly serene on the outside. "But I sort of used to know your mum." Not exactly true, but the questions were likely to keep coming after such a statement, so he might as well continue.

"Well, actually, I'm your mum's cousin. So we... you and I... we're kind of related." Regulus took a steadying breath before continuing on. At least he doubted that this girl would hate him enough to do anything about it. That was the one comforting thing about this place. The worst thing that had happened was his brother shouted at him over those silly electronic contraptions for awhile and he had nearly stumbled into a tiny Dark Lord. Not nearly as bad as he'd feared.

"I'm Regulus. Regulus Black." He briefly considered offering that it was nice to meet her... but he didn't.

Wow. What? Really? That was... All right, she wasn't sure what that was. But at least that explained why he looked so damned familiar. Her Mum had pictures after all, things that she kept that she didn't leave out often, but Tonks could well remember the explanation that she'd gotten when she'd stumbled across them at age 8 going through her mother's drawers looking for... Gosh, she couldn't even remember what she was looking for. Just that she'd found the old school and family photos and had been very confused about them.

"Of all the things I thought I'd stumble across here, long missing and presumed dead relatives wasn't one of them," Tonks said, her expression dully stunned before she managed to work up a hint of a smile at the idea of exactly how her mother would have reacted when granted with this circumstance. He likely would have been bowled over in a hug already. "Suppose I should try and change the way that I think about it, hm."
