WHAT: True to form, Jack goes off on his lonesome to get Ianto back. Because if anyone's dealing with the Master, it's going to be him.

Enough was enough and through Peter's help, Jack knew where to find Ianto and the Master. Two fucking weeks he'd left this go, though he had been searching high and low for any sign of them. Jack was just starting to go out of his bloody mind, not to mention damn near useless through his guilt. He did blame himself for this, knowing that Ianto was wherever he was because Jack had pushed him there.

That night he fucked Gwen. That night he had pushed Ianto away and to the Master.

He didn't recognise Lo, but this had to be it. Jack wished he had his Webley to shoot the thing for a dramatic entrance but kicking would have to do.

"Come out you fucking coward!"

Perhaps not the best thing to say, but Jack wasn't exactly thinking clearly. Not to mention he didn't have Ianto to tell him that his plan (or lack thereof) was stupid.

Jack should have known better, but he didn't care. It didn't matter that part of Jack winced kicking a TARDIS, even if it was one belonging to the Master. He gave it another kick, not caring any longer. The Master could do whatever he wanted to Jack -- oh, wait, he already had.

He was determined not to rise to the Master's bait and, if anything, the mention of fine tea meant that Ianto was still alive. That, to Jack, meant the absolute world. He could play the game for now.

"I'd love some." Jack pursed his lips. "So why don't you bring your cowardly arse and he who is making your tea outside." Because Jack knew that if he went in there it would be harder for them both to get out.

"Now, now, Jack, we both know that I'm not that dumb," The Master said, leaning a little closer to the viewscreen as he smiled at the Captain. "You do have such a habit of shooting things, and I really would hate to have to waste a regeneration just because you decided to get pissy at me when I haven't even done anything. Ianto and I were just having a nice chat. I told him that he could leave whenever he wanted. All he had to do was open the door."

Granted, though, opening the door of a TARDIS when you had no idea what any of the switches, buttons, or levers on the console did was next to impossible. That was something that The Master was sure that Jack would know so it didn't really have to be expressed.

"In the end, he really just preferred to stay here," The Master concluded, leaning back again. "Oh, but I could always let you in. That is, if you promise not to get trigger happy."

Ianto looked up from what he was doing, startled at the idea that Jack would shoot the Master. It was certainly something of an overreaction, in his opinion. And the Master had told him he could leave at any time. The door just hadn't been cooperative. The Master really should get that looked at. But in any case, he hoped that Jack would settle for tea, rather than bloodshed. He didn't want either the Master or Jack getting hurt.

He had enjoyed staying in the TARDIS, but he wouldn't object to going back, if Jack really was himself again. He finished up with the drinks and looked over at the Master. "He might be more amenable to the suggestion if you mention there's coffee too," he suggested calmly.

Jack held one hand up, pulling the greatcoat back with his free hand to show an empty holster. "How's that for good faith of not shooting things?" Jack asked. "No matter how much I'd like to see you go through another few regenerations, I'm not that stupid." Nor was he stupid enough to go anywhere without another weapon or three concealed. Call it training from one Captain John Hart.

"And did you explain to him how to open the door?" Jack asked. Yes, Master, Jack knew all about TARDISes and doors and the fact that you had to know something about a TARDIS in order to open said doors. "So if we stick to the promise of my not getting trigger happy, why don't you bring him out here. Or are you scared to, coward?"

The one thing Jack Harkness really needed to learn was the whole point of not offending the man who was holding his once-lover captive. Yes, once-lover. Because remembering the things he said to Ianto, Jack didn't feel like he had any right to the other man -- not like that any more. He was rescuing him from the Master for the sake of rescuing. Nothing more.
