He watched the information scroll past, eyes moving over the words that he did and didn't want to see. The fledgling urge to step in and silence them to explain matters to Rose himself was squashed, no more able to stop the flow of matters than he could halt the progression of Time itself. Well, to be honest, he was probably more likely to be able to do the second. Eventually. Starting from zero so to speak was a pain at times.

Paging down through the comments of the others, a bit of a grin surfaced at seeing Donna. Too much was going on, emotions running too high for him to say to her what he wanted. There would be time for that later. He was pleased to see her although he doubted she was still 'Doctor Donna'. There were reasons there weren't any human Time Lords. Even then he had thought about saying something to her, warning her. He had to wonder what he, or rather his other self, had done so that she didn't appear to be on the edge of combusting mentally. Maybe he would ask later. Maybe not.

It was Rose's replies that drew his attention.

"But he's not you."
"He needs you. That's very me."

There were times that it left life lacking to be nothing more than a replacement. It wasn't that he didn't love Rose. He did. It was simply that he was the Doctor, and he was being viewed as nothing more than a doll put in the other's place.

"Jealousy. Right."

It was so very annoying to have one part of him diagnosing the other. Brought a whole new meaning to being of two minds on a subject. The more it happened, the more he had to wonder if it were possible that a brand of insanity wasn't setting in. Then again, if it weren't considered being a little on the mad side to be jealous of one's self because one wasn't one's self, then he might very well be. Or something like that. In other words, while the human half cried out 'Tally-ho!' and readied to charge into battle for his (their) woman, the Time Lord half vapourized the human half's horse and left him sitting on the ground wondering what just happened while being lectured about needing to think things through. Eventually, his human half might wise up and start carrying a taser, the long-distant sort that the Time Lord wouldn't be expecting.

Maybe in time he would develop a split-personality. Now that would be interesting and potentially dangerous, but really interesting on the whole.

Back to the original subject.

"Next time there's a instantaneous biological meta-crisis, maybe I should make sure that the other DNA donor doesn't have self-esteem problems," he said to himself as he tapped in a few replies. The occasional glance was taken upwards to make sure he didn't run into anyone. Occasional. It was just being polite. If someone missed the fact there was a nearly six foot tall person in front of them with hair like a rooster, that wasn't his fault, was it?

"Why don't I believe you?" she asked with a laugh, knowing that if something had happened after her telling him not to touch anything, then he certainly had something to do with it.

Then he was giving her that grin. The grin she always found so hypnotic. And one that always made her grin right back at him. When he dropped her hand, she felt the slight moment of hurt. She had been so used to them always holding hands, even if he was a different man he was still the same. Then he was mentioning the clothes and she couldn't help but giggle. He was a little more casual, and it suited him. For some strange reason, the casualness of just a suit and a t-shirt was perfect for the laid back feeling she was getting from him.

When he mentioned only having one heart, her eyes dropped to his chest. It was strange, so many times she had held him after running from danger and felt those two hearts beating. To think that the same man had only one like her, it was slightly strange. Slowly, she reached out her hand, but stopped just short of his chest. After all, she didn't know where his boundaries may be.

"Can I?" she asked quietly, slightly nervous about his response.

"There was that one incident, but that's not important on the whole. Never look back on things that were sacrificed for progression... or at least the pursuit of a better running dishwasher."

A quick grin that wouldn't have been comfortable to most who liked their homes running normally instead of being slowly converted to be more TARDIS-like came and went. He hadn't dropped her hand to be cruel, but after the conversation at the Bay and what he had seen, he knew the distance that there would be. Forcing it to close rarely worked.

"I can see it on your face. Even you agree. The tie contradicts the trainers too much. Besides, mine are red instead of his. He can't carry off red."

Nodding smugly, he shoved his hands into his pockets. His gaze followed the path of her hand and where it halted just above his chest. It hadn't been that long ago to him that she had done the same thing. Did one really matter that much? Why was his impending death such a good thing to so many people.

"You can if you want. Everyone else has," he said with a quiet snort and a twist of a smile. "I should start taking money for it. Make a quick living."

She laughed as he continued speaking about things he had sacrificed, not able to stop her eyebrows raising when he mentioned making a better dishwasher. She could just imagine what he could have done, and how it ended. And somehting told her it did not end well.

"I am not commenting on who I think has the better fashion sense," she said with a little laugh.

She like the way the man in front of her seemed a bit more approachable. Yes she could talk to the Doctor but he always looked a little too professional, even with the trainers, and she could see why a lot of people would be a little scared of him.

She laughed as agreed, those few words he gave her not stopping the giggle. Slowly, she stepped closer, her hand slipping under his suit jacket. It was something she had a feeling she could get used to, his one heart beat. Grinning, she looked up at him.

"Just like me."

Dark eyes moved to her face, that quirk of a smile not leaving yet. Whether this was over her refusal to say which of them was better or fond memories of what he had reprogrammed an innocent dishwasher to do was anyone's guess. Chances were that it was the latter.

"You know I do. As for the washer, I do believe you had the only one that could wash dishes and steam cook a roast. It was unfortunate that it did them at the same time. One tended to defeat the purpose of the other."

Another careless shrug was all the apology he offered for that. After all, it wasn't this Rose that had come home and found it if the event had happened at all. For all anyone knew, he was merely making things up as he went along, inventing stories and situations to draw lines connecting their lives where there may have not been any before. The Doctor always had been a good actor.

"Yes," he said agreeably. "Just like you. Now that you've seen my heart, we need to find out where I live."

And there he went, wandering down the street and still talking away to her as if he expected her to be trailing right after him despite the fact he was heading off in the wrong direction.

"What exactly is this place, Rose Tyler? Beyond 'Colligo'? The main question is 'how did we get here'?"

She laughed as he mentioned just what he had done to the dishwasher, rolling her eyes a little. Only he would do something that stupid and still be a little proud of it.

"I can just imagine how much they defeated the purpose of each other."

She smiled as he agreed that he was just like her, her hand staying over his heart for as long as it could. It was beating steadily under her hand, so similar to the beat of her heart. Though she had a feeling her heart was beating slightly faster. It always did when she was around him.

Then he was walking away, talking as if he was expecting her to follow. She had no idea where he wanted to go, and knew he probably wouldn't know either. So she followed behind him, waiting for a hint as to where he wanted to go.

"I have no idea. They recently found out that there's two moons, so they realised it's not Earth despite looking a little here. And no one knows how we got here, there's people from different times and places, even people we think are fictional. Like Harry Potter, he's here."
