WHO: Gabriel Gray & Jim Kirk (Open to Seven of Nine)
WHAT: Scientific exploration with superpowers
WHERE: Astrometrics
WHEN: Afternoon
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

Gabriel had made the offer not really knowing exactly what he would have to do and yet assured of the fact that he would be able to do it. He was a little surprised that apparently Captain Kirk knew him well enough to have already nicknamed him, but there had been plenty of surprises already in this place. This was one of the least of his worries. Heading to the room number that he'd been given, Gabriel raised a hand, knocking on the door before leaning back against the wall to wait for it to be answered, idly holding on his hand and manifesting a ball of electricity in his palm, watching as the current jumped between his fingers. It wasn't exactly a normal way to entertain himself, but you use what you have available. And at the moment, all Gabriel had available was himself and his abilities.

Sighing softly for a moment, Gabriel banished the electricity before turning his gaze back to the door, looking straight through it and into the room, extending his vision forward until he spotted the people inside. Ah, they'd heard him. Just had to transverse the majority of the apartment to get to the door. That was fine. Pulling his gaze back, Gabriel smiled as the door reappeared in his sight, a slight smile on his face as his enhanced hearing perked to the approaching footsteps. He really had to learn to be more patient.

Seven had stepped out of Astrometrics, leaving Jim alone to sift through the data they'd been able to gather on that second moon for what must have been the one hundredth time by then. Logically, he knew, there was nothing more he could get out of it that he hadn't already noted, but that stubborn part of him, that part that made him more George Kirk's son that he was capable of denying, refused to back down until he was absolutely certain he had checked every corner, every nook and cranny for something that would lead him in a new, easier direction.

Hearing the knock, he set the data aside and went to answer the door, pulling it open and expecting to see Scotty or Chekov or maybe even his dad or Sulu--not Gabriel. Not that the other man's presence wasn't a welcomed one. Jim grinned.

"Hey there, Copperfield. Anything I can do for you?"

"Actually, I was thinking there was something I could do for you," Gabriel said, grinning right back at the Captain. This was odd, but it was hardly the oddest thing that he'd ever done in his life, and he hardly figured it would hardly rate on the weird scale whenever he left this place. That was, if he even remembered it. "Am I correct it presuming that you have some equipment that could use a bit of a power boost? Or perhaps just a first hand view of the object in question?"

Gabriel was grinning. He liked showing off. He would admit that. But it liked it ever better when it had a practical application while he was doing it. And the more that he helped those around him, the more that the myriad of abilities that he was in possession of didn't go to waste.

"If so, my service are at your disposal."

Jim's eyebrows shot up. Copperfield had been serious when he made that offer? He'd appreciated it when it was made, but he didn't expect the guy to actually come through on it. He considered Gabriel to be a friend, but...wow. They could actually use a hand with that. He knew that the primitive nature of this technology was irritating Seven much more than it was him. He couldn't hold it against her. She was from a time over a hundred years in his future and had been exposed to technology from races far more advanced than the Federation due to having been a part of the Borg Collective -- nevermind that he didn't fully understand the Borg and probably never would. He wasn't meant to. Didn't fit into his timeline, but he wasn't going to get into that. Temporal warps such as this gave him a headache. He would only image what sort of migraines it was giving poor Jo McCoy.

"That'd be great, if you could manage it. Come on in." He led the way to Astrometrics, assuming that Gabriel would shut the door behind him.

"It will depend on what you have set up exactly what I can do, but I'm more than willing to give it a try," Gabriel said as he shut the door, following behind Jim as they crossed the main area of the apartment to enter the lab. It was...impressive, Gabriel could definitely say. He'd seen a lot of technology especially when working with the Company since their computer systems were as good as any that the government's top level facilities had. And this was quite remarkable with the materials that were available. His head was buzzing (more than usual) just from being around it.

"They're running on full output, constant scans," Gabriel said offhandedly as he glanced around the room. "Feeding you as much information as they can get with the generalized focus that they have," He said, glancing over at Jim before turning his gaze towards the window. "But if we can refine that focus..."

Crossing the room, Gabriel pulled open the window, leaning out and looking up at the sky. It was daytime, perhaps, but his vision wasn't limited by the refraction of light off of the moons' surfaces. Slipping through the atmosphere and past the cloud layer that obscured so much, Gabriel was finally able to pinpoint exactly what they were looking for. Now, all he had to do was tell the system where to turn their attention.

"I can't look away. Can you put my hand up against one of the machines?"

Can you put my hand up against one of the machines?

In the time since she'd been liberated from the Borg, Seven had heard a great many comments that were puzzling to her. Most had to do with regret for past actions, and others were typically made in reference to a planet - Earth - that she simply did not consider home as most others aboard Voyager did. However there were a few, typically uttered at moments when no one realized she was present, that completely and utterly baffled her.

This, she thought as she stepped inside Astrometrics, was most certainly one of those times.

Can you put my hand up against one of the machines?

The words had been spoken by a man she was incapable of fully recognizing given the fact that his head was currently halfway out of the open window. Even if his head wasn't sticking out of the window, though, Seven didn't think they'd ever met before. His voice wasn't familiar and with the auditory enhancements she had courtesy of her time spent as a drone voices were one thing she could easily recognize.

Of course, had she recognized his voice she doubted that would have helped her be any less confused over his statement. Nor did she think it would have helped put a stopper on the sudden rush of protectiveness that she felt toward the various machines throughout the lab. It was only due to Jim being present and her knowledge that he knew just how important this place was to her - how it served as a sanctuary from a world which made little sense to her well-ordered mind - that prevented her from hauling the stranger out of the window and demanding answers. Or possibly just tossing him the rest of the way out of the opening he was already dangling from.

Instead she simply paused in the doorway, an unreadable expression on her face even as her blue eyes shone with a mixture of confusion and irritation.

"What is he doing?" she questioned after a long pause, her gaze at long last sliding away from the spectacle and to Jim. Her tone was flat, the sort she typically reserved for situations where she felt she was surrounded by people clearly less intelligent than she was. Flat, outwardly emotionless, while still containing enough annoyance to show that she obviously didn't like what she was being forced to deal with.

"Why is he required to... touch the scanning equipment?"
