Who: Elliot & Melinda
When: 04/29/13
What: Elliot's checking out the pie shop
Where: 3.14159
Warnings: TBD

Elliot still wasn't sure what to think about any of this, Asaph, or Colligo. This place was too big to believed. He knew it was real, though, he was here, and still breathing. He didn't know how he had ended up here, why they had abducted him, but he supposed he was going to have to make the most of it. He had applied with the police department, there was nothing that he wanted to be other than a cop, and if he was going to be here for awhile, he might as well do what he knew how to do. He just wished that Olivia was here. He missed her. They hadn't gotten to talk about things, how they had been left. Elliot didn't know what she was thinking, and there was no way to know now that he was here.

It had been hard, knowing that he had had to shoot that girl. Elliot hadn't liked it. He hadn't wanted to. But it had been the thing he'd had to do. She had shot Sister Peg. And Sister Peg was dead. Elliot hated that that had had to happen. He missed her. She had been a good woman, and they'd worked with her several times. Elliot had regretted everything during that summer. He didn't know what he was supposed to do. He wished he could roll back time. It just wasn't possible.

He had been walking the streets of Colligo, trying to familiarize himself with the place. It seemed to be large and bustling. That was good, at least. He stopped in front of what appeared to be a pie shop. It was aptly named, the digits for pie. He had to laugh a little at that. It was pretty funny. Very tongue in cheek. He headed inside when he saw a pie that looked really good. Not that he had any cash, but he didn't care, it would at least be good to smell the pies baking.

A girl was at the counter. "Hey...." He said, as he approached. "Elliot..... I'm new here."

Melinda had been in the shop baking away. It was that time where she had to replace the pies with fresh ones. She had came in early and gotten started, putting flour on metallic table and then making the dough. She loved to bake and was glad that she was doing something that she loved to do. Being here made her think about her mom and all the smells that would come from the kitchen in the manor. Her mom was a great cook, and was glad that it had been passed down to her.

Putting the music on, she took out some of the fruit fillings and the other pie fillings. As she put the flour on the dough and started to shape it and then putting it into the pie pans. The music was getting to her and she finally started to dance around the table as she made the pies. With the fruit ones, she put them into the oven to bake. With the other ones that just needed to chill for a bit, she put saran wrap on the them and stuck them into the fridge.

She went to go and wash up when she heard someone coming into the shop. She had flour in her hair and some on her cheeks. So she just washed her hands and then she went out front. Wiping her hands with her apron, she put some of the pies that were already made and cut into the pie display and then shut it.

"Hi. I'm Melinda, so Elliot what can I get you?" She asked.

That wasn't a question so easily answered. Elliot didn't know what he would order if he had the choice. It all smelled amazing in here. Elliot hadn't had any pie or anything for awhile, summer had been a very long and depressing one, he'd been surviving on beer and sandwiches, mostly. He'd worked out like a fiend, too, it had helped him keep his mind on other things than what had happened at the precinct.

Elliot couldn't help but smile and relax a little. He missed home a lot, and especially Olivia, but he couldn't help but try and get used to being here. There was something hilarious about a place that would have a pie shop named after a mathematical equation. Even if Elliot had never put much stock in math. He had always been focused on being a cop, and there wasn't much math involved in that.

"I don't know... I'm new here, I don't really have much money. I applied for the police department, but that's mostly because it's all I know how to do." Elliot said, his words tumbling out more nervously than he would have imagined. He had never been this much at a loss for words, it was a little humbling.

"What would you recommend?"

The pie shop was pretty much empty now because she didn't start getting customers until later. That was why she was still putting things into the display case and into the spinning pie case as well. She felt really dehydrated, but she knew that she had things to do. She would just get something later in the back, she could really use some juice or a soda.

"Well, I do have this thing here. Where if you are new, you get a free slice. Its the least I can do for anybody that doesn't have enough money, but wants a slice of pie. I'm just nice that way." She said with a little bit of a laugh.

"Oh that sounds like a nice job. I'm just doing this until I get out of school. I'm studying to be a psychologist." She said as she grabbed the pies that were just out of the oven and put them into the case to go on sale. "So what will it be?"

"Well, I like more of the creamed pies but nothing is better than warm apple pie a la mode." She laughed, "My pies are the best."

Elliot hated having to admit that he didn't really have a lot of cash. He had never had that problem in New York. Even if he didn't have it, Olivia would cover him. He did have five kids, so it was sometimes true that he was low on cash. Elliot looked around, trying to determine what kind of pie he would want. It wasn't clear what he should get, he wasn't picky with pie.

"I like creamed ones too... but fruit is good." Elliot agreed. He decided he wanted chocolate cream pie. "It's nice of you to give me a slice." He said, doing his best not to sound embarrassed. He didn't want to let on that he was. Elliot was a big strong man and he didn't ever like to be embarrassed.

Elliot ran his hand through his short hair. "I used to live in New York. I have a family back there..." And a woman he loved, he finished in his head. Elliot didn't really want to talk about Olivia with someone who didn't know either of them. Not that he had ever really talked about her before with anyone. He hadn't. Elliot hadn't really ever admitted that he had feelings for her to himself. It wasn't until what had happened at the precinct.

"Where did you come from before you were brought here?"

As he was deciding, she went and cleaned off the tables and making the place look presentable. Usually she would just let her employees, but she needed something to do. This guy did seem like he was nice, and wondered where he came from before ending up in this place. Which wasn't so bad, but she was really starting to miss her family, especially her dad.

"Yeah, I don't know what it is, but I have a flavor for certain moods that I'm in. Its kind of weird, but its how I always did things." She said with a laugh. Once he ordered his slice of pie, she went into the glass case and handed it to him. "There you go and hey its not a problem. Its my way of saying welcome to Colligo." She said with a smile.

As she was listening to his story she nodded her head. "New York huh? Sounds like an interesting place. I've been to New York once or twice before I was brought here. Not a place that I would want to live in, but it was interesting seeing the sites at least." She said with a shrug. "Hey you never know with this place, anyone can show up here, including your family." She said to him.

"I actually am from San Francisco. Going to college, working at my mom's club, well, my brother owns it now. And living with a nice roommate. But I do have a nice roommate here."

Elliot didn't know how he was going to get back home, but he really hoped that he could. He didn't know how he was going to make it in this strange place without Olivia. He missed her so much it hurt. Elliot let out a breath, and dug into the pie.

"This is good." He told her, and tried to imagine what San Fransisco was like. He had never been there, he'd never really been outside New York, except that time he'd had to go to Prague to catch that rapist. That had been for work, so he'd hardly been paying attention to the things around him. Elliot didn't know what he was going to do if he never got reunited with Olivia or his kids. "So you run this shop?" He asked, trying to imagine what that must be like, he had never done anything but be a cop, except for when he'd been in the Marines.

Elliot shrugged. "I've never lived anywhere but New York, so this will be a different experience." He said, lifting his blue eyes to look at her. He wondered how big Colligo was.
