John couldn't put his finger on what was wrong. He knew he was only getting bits and pieces of the whole story, not enough to really satisfy a full picture of what had happened since his death, but that didn't stop him from being concerned about what it seemed to have done to his youngest. John hadn't seen Adam in some time, even before his death it had been awhile since he'd had the opportunity to lay eyes on him, but he still remembered the son that he'd left behind. Bright, playful, sarcastic with a steel sharpened wit and vibrant life to him, there were only the faintest glimmers of that in the voice that John had been conversing with over the phone he'd been provided. Adam sounded dull, haunted, and John could only imagine exactly what had happened that could have caused that, that involved him being used as Michael's vessel and coming up against Lucifer.
There were so many questions, so much that he only half understood, and as he slid into a booth at the Roadhouse, settling quietly into the familiar surrounding even if they were in a wholly different location, John couldn't help the anxieties that were swimming around in his mind. There was more than enough to worry about here, with the way that Dean was acting and the apparent relationships that he'd formed with things that very well should have been dead by now and well as whatever Sammy had been through in the past few years that had left him as apparently...well, the reliable one, that John wanted to at least figure out what in the world he could do for Adam. He'd failed his sons in a lot of ways, in more ways than he cold reasonably count, but being given a second chance, he wanted to try and make up for at least part of those failures.
So he was starting here.
