who | Sam Winchester and Jo Harvelle-Wuornos
what | Sam's newly arrived to Colligo and very, very confused. So he decides to handle things in true Winchester fashion: drinking.
when | Not long after this.
where | The Roadhouse
rating | TBD
status | In Progress

Despite the number of people assuring him that where he was was very much real, Sam still wasn't quite sure he believed it. It was one thing for Lucifer to be roaming free and not trying to kill everyone and destroy the world. That was odd, definitely, but Sam could deal with it if only because he was pretty sure it was all some ploy on Lucifer's part to get people to let their guard down around him before he made his move. Which meant sure, he was going to have to figure out a way to stop him, eventually, but for now, he wasn't his biggest concern.

Nor, despite what some apparently thought, was the fact that there was apparently a vampire running around who was "on the wagon" and friends with Dean. Or the fact that the little Amazon girl who had tried to murder Dean was now trying to... do what, exactly? Sam wasn't sure on that one. But still. He could handle both of those things. And while it was odd to think of Jo as married and pregnant, he could handle that too. Just as, despite what Dean seemed to think, he could even deal with Dean being married with kids. In fact, he was happy for his brother, glad to know he had found someone who obviously made him happy. And Jo, Ellen, Adam, and Gabriel all being alive again was strange, sure, but Sam wasn't going to knock it.

But the way Dean was acting? The fact that he seemed to think that Sam shouldn't question any of what he was being told? That bothered him. A lot. Because that wasn't his brother. Yes, Sam knew people could change. He sure had, over the years. But he couldn't wrap his head around Dean changing to the extent that he would forget that you weren't supposed to just accept unexplainable things. It was one of the first rules of being a hunter, and it was one of the many lessons that Sam had learned from firsthand experience. Every single time he had just gone with it, hadn't questioned the validity of something that was definitely off, he had wound up regretting it later. Typically after people were hurt, or even dead, and often with the fate of the entire world hanging in the balance.

Somehow, though, Dean had seemed to forget that fact. And it was for that reason, primarily, that Sam was having such a difficult time with everything else. So, instead of continuing to try and explain it to his brother, because he knew Dean and knew he was pretty much wasting both of their time at this point, he decided instead to locate the Roadhouse. Because apparently that was also in this crazy place and, while Sam wasn't normally one to drink away his troubles, tonight he was definitely making an exception.

Making his way into the building, courtesy of a local who had pointed him in the right direction, Sam felt an immediate sense of relief sweep over him. He knew it was only due to the familiar surroundings in such an unfamiliar place, but he was noticeably more at ease within a few seconds. Sure, some things were a little different - for starters, the place wasn't filled to bursting with hunters of all shapes and sizes - but this was still somewhere he knew. Considering everything else he thought he'd known was being brought into question, he needed that right now.

Still wary, but definitely more relaxed than he'd been since waking up in that library, Sam headed toward the bar. First, he decided, he'd order a beer. Then he'd see if Jo or Ellen was around. He could really use a friendly face and it felt like it had been far too long since he'd seen either of them. Besides. Jo was pregnant. This, he really had to see for himself.

Tipping his head in thanks at the bartender, Sam was just about to take a swig of his beer when he heard Jo's voice. Turning toward it, scanning the group assembled, it really didn't take him very long to spot her. Not that Sam wouldn't have been able to recognize Jo from a mile away, even in a sea of other blondes, but this time she definitely stuck out a bit more than even usual.

Grinning - the first real smile he'd had that hadn't been forced in some way or laced with confusion - he covered the rest of the distance between them in a few strides. "Jo!" he exclaimed as he finally was close enough they didn't have to shout to be heard. "Hey! It's great to see you. I..." He stopped then, scarcely able to continue ignoring what was completely obvious.

"Wow," he half-laughed, "look at you!" Still smiling, he looked her up one end and down the other. "At the risk of being hit, I have to say. This is a good look for you." Fortunately, unlike most other men in existence, when Sam said it, he didn't mean anything by it.
