WHO: Lucifer & Claire Winchester
WHAT: Claire is a Weeping Angel magnet. Lucifer tries to Angel proof her house, but in the good way. Not the way that would keep him out.
WHERE: The Winchester House
WHEN: December 29th; Afternoon
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

Lucifer hated when his abilities were limited, whether it was by confinement in the cage or by a much more annoying situation like when someone more powerful than him was dictating things. That didn't happen often, after all. The only people more capable than he was were Michael and his Mother, and now that he had arrived her, his Uncle, and coming up against the prior two was rare, but his Uncle kept throwing obstacles in his way that Lucifer wanted to knock away only to find that he couldn't do it because of the superiority of his abilities. So Lucifer was having to find ways around them, ways to manipulate the reality that wasn't directly in contrast to his Uncle's manipulations. Putting mirrors up around Claire's home seemed to have worked, but Lucifer knew that that would only last for so long. He had to find a much more permanent solution that would keep not only Claire but her family safe. He wasn't going to have any of them get hurt just because of something that she couldn't control.

Appearing in the Winchester's living room used to be something that he was incapable of doing, with all the protections that they had up, but his arrivals outside had mostly been of consideration recently. But with the situation the way it was now and his own turn of a leaf having removed a great deal of the barriers, appearing outside had seemed like the worst idea ever. Settled on the living room couch, Lucifer frowned before casting a brief glance over his shoulder and holding out a hand to call up shutters over the windows.

"The mirrors might hold them in place, but it's probably better not to give them any easy entrances if they can get past."

"To be fair, you could have a hundred kids if you wanted to. It isn't like your uterus is going to dry up and fall out anytime soon. Or at all, really," Lucifer said with a grin on his face even though he knew that statement was probably going to get something chucked at him. But just because Claire was being nice enough to let him stay here, even though he was more than capable of popping in whenever he wanted to, didn't mean that he was going to stop pushing the line. After awhile, he might actually get it to a place where he didn't have to push it anymore.

Not likely, but possible.

Laughing as Meri popped into the room, Lucifer flashed Claire a smile, "I guess she's figured out it's not really a pantry," He said, chuckling as Gabi ambled out of the basement, pausing by the door to inspect the scene set out before her. She had heard her mother talking with Lucifer. It had been hard not to listen when Meri had ssshhed her the second that they had realized who the voices filtering down to the basement had been, but Gabi had had the majority of the revelation drowned out by Meri's delight.

"Is Lucifer helping Uncle Gabe?" Gabi asked as she crossed over to the table, placing her hands on the edge of it, and pulling up until she could rest her chin on the edge as she narrowed her eyes at the Archangel. "Does he know you put in a new room?" Best room ever or not, this was her Uncle Gabe's design. If there was going to be an awesome room added, he should be the one to do it. "Did you ask? You should have asked."

Lucifer could barely restrain a grin as he shook his head, "I'm sure he won't mind. It's not like I broke anything. Just made it better."

Wrong answer.

Actually, Claire amended as Gabi all but sauntered into the room and announced, rather firmly, that Uncle Gabe should've been consulted about any changes to the blueprints of the house, two wrong answers. Which meant, when faced with the second one, Claire was more than willing to let the first one, about her uterus, slide.

After all, there wasn't much that was scarier than one of her children deciding that you had done something that you shouldn't have done.

Fortunately for Lucifer, before Gabi could really get wound up and ready to defend Gabriel, and even before Claire could come up with something to say to deter such a thing, Meri was on the scene. Out of the new room like a bullet, she shot Lucifer a look that clearly said "stop talking, now, for the love of puppies and Christmas stop. talking" she then turned to her little sister.

"Gabi," she said in a tone that Claire easily recognized as a combination of authoritative and reassuring, "he taught Uncle Gabe what he knows." A pause, just long enough for Gabi to presumably register what her older sister was saying, and Meri continued. "You always used the slide to get downstairs until I showed you how to use the laundry chute. It's like that."

Another pause, and Meri tipped her head toward the new room. "Now come on. There's a ball pit in there!"

Claire wasn't quite sure how that statement was going to solve anything, but she stayed silent and glanced over to Lucifer with a look that insisted he do the same. Or, at least, not comment until Gabi had weighed the pros and cons of what Meri had said and reached her own conclusion.

Although she couldn't help but speak up, after a second or two, with a rather pointed, "You know, girls, your dad will be home soon. Whatever exploring you're going to do, it better be quick. He's definitely going to want help carrying in supplies, when he gets here."

What? Just because she didn't actively take sides in arguments between her kids didn't mean she hadn't all but perfected the art of convincing them to move along and do something else, when she really wanted. That was just part of what it meant to be a mom, as far as she was concerned.

Gabi's look was skeptical and searching as she glanced between her big sister and the Archangel sitting at the table. On one hand, she always felt that she needed to speak up for her favorite Uncle and godfather whenever he wasn't around to define himself, especially in situations where she felt that he was going to be wronged in some way, but on the other, Meri did have a bit of a point. Lucifer was Gabriel's big brother in the same way that Meri was her big sister, and Meri had been doing more than her share of improving Gabi's own understanding of things or even really her own ability to do stuff that she hadn't been capable of before. Maybe, maybe, Lucifer really did know what he was doing and was just helping without the intention of doing anything wrong so eventually, Gabi slide back from the table, a very slow and purposeful movement to her actions, not taking her eyes off of Lucifer the whole time until she was standing tall and straight backed.

"All right. I'll let it slide this time. But next time, ask first," Gabi said, the seriousness all melting out of her the second that that was side, turning on her heels since she knew that her mother was right. Daddy would want help with everything when he got home. They only had so long right now to explore. And all right. She had to admit. A ball pit did sound pretty awesome. "Let's go!" She exclaimed, dashing forward and grabbing Meri's hand.

The second the two girls had disappeared back into the room, Lucifer just had to laugh, a wry smile spreading across his face, "I bet anything that Michael wouldn't be able to win that sort of affection off of Jack."

As Meri took Gabi's hand and led her into the new room, Claire turned her attention back to Lucifer. Chuckling at his comment, she had to admit that he was right. Although not necessarily for the same reasons that he seemed to think. Unable to let such an oversight pass, if only because it was a rare opportunity for her to point out that she was the reason for that, she replied, "Oh, definitely not. In fact, once I pointed out to Jack that he wanted to wear his daddy like a cheap suit and that would make me sad? Michael would be lucky if Jack didn't douse him in holy oil and catch him on fire." Which, scarily enough, if any of her kids could get away with such a thing against an Archangel, it would probably be Jack. Not that Claire didn't think the others might manage it, but only Jack would be able to really pull it off with no warning that it was going to happen. He was a little scary, and a hell of a lot impressive, in that way.

Rising to her feet, Claire picked up her tea cup and carried it to the sink just a few feet away. "Speaking of, Jack's most likely not down here right now only because he's probably cleaning up whatever mess the three of them made before Meri took Gabi on a ride down the laundry chute." Turning back to face the Archangel, she added pointedly, "Which means, when he does finally show up, he's getting extra dessert at dinner." She arched a brow. "And if you try to give Meri extra too, because she claims it isn't fair, I'm going to douse you in holy oil and catch you on fire."

The threat might have been casually made, but it was very much sincere. Finished rinsing out her cup, she returned to her seat and said mildly, "Of course, something tells me you don't really realize how close you came to that exact fate, just now. Do you? From Gabi, I mean." Because if there was one thing you did not do, it was attempt to one-up Gabriel, when Gabi was around. You would be lucky if you managed to get out with all of your limbs intact. Or any of them, for that matter.

"All right. No double dessert. Not even secret post dinner double dessert," Lucifer said, raising a hand and crossing a finger over his heart. "My Mom strike me down if I lie." Not that he really expected his mother to do such a thing if he just...randomly materialized a cookie or something, but still. It was a phrase that was sincere enough in the moment. Grinning at what she had said about Michael, Lucifer leaned forward on the table, a heavy amusement in his features at the fact that she was right. While he, when he had arrived and discovered that his vessel was no longer falling apart, had completely abandoned any desire for the younger Winchester to replace Nick, Michael had seemed not to take such an attitude when he was here. Dean was his "one true vessel," and that had to be fulfilled whatever it took. Following their Father's orders, after all, was key to Michael's very existence even when they were unnecessary and completely against what he wanted to do.

"Too bad Mikey isn't as unpicky as I am," Lucifer said with a smile and a shrug. "Besides, I've actually gotten a bit attached to old Nick. He's served me well," Lucifer said with a bit of a pause as he leaned back in his chair. "It's really a shame that we can't just...let them out the play occasionally, you know? Not that he would probably want to. Actually, nevermind. He'd probably be pretty pissed at me. I never did manage to get around to that whole...avenging thing I promised."

Pausing at Claire's last comment, though, Lucifer just looked at her, a quietly skeptical expression on his face, "But it's just a new room. No harm there. It's not like I stabbed him in the gut again or something."

Jack had, in fact, been cleaning up the mess he and his sisters (mostly his sisters) had made, but he hadn't exactly gotten around to cleaning up himself. So when he came into the kitchen, because Meri had been shouting and he always came when Meri shouted, it was with makeup on his face. And in a dress. He gave Lucifer a look that promised the angel would be set on fire if he made any sort of comment, and sighed in his mother's direction. "They made a very compelling argument for why girls shouldn't always have to be the princess when we're playing knights and Chomper was supposed to be the dragon but he wasn't there so it was a pretty lame rescue and then they decided to ride the laundry shoot instead off flying off on the dragon...and I got to read comic books while I waited to be 'rescued'." He paused. "I still don't think I had to look the part. They could have been rescuing the prince. Sometimes princes get in peril too."

All in all, this was just another normal day in the Winchester house. Jack paused after his story, looking into Lucifer's new room and making a little 'huh' noise. "Cool," he said sedately with a small smile. Then he frowned. "I'd better go and make sure Meri and Gabi don't break anything...or each other." He still didn't enter the room though, and he looked over at Lucifer again. "You're staying here?" he said. "Mom's letting you...so I guess it's okay. But you'd better be nice to Uncle Adam. And Uncle Benny. And Uncle Cas. Or you won't get any dessert. And mom makes the best dessert so you're gonna want some. So you should be nice."

That said, he went into the room to play with his sisters and make sure that nothing too insane happened.

Claire snorted in derision at Lucifer's comment about not having stabbed Gabe in the gut again. "No," she admitted easily enough, "you didn't stab him. In Gabi's eyes, you actually did something worse." Fixing him with a look, wondering if he would understand then realizing, finally, that he wasn't going to get there on his own, she elaborated, "You changed something that he created. Worse yet, you made it better, even in some small way." Smiling a bit, she gave a slight shrug. "What can I say?" she questioned. "As far as Gabi is concerned, that's pretty much an action worthy of death. Or at least dismemberment."

The scary thing was, she wasn't necessarily joking. However, before she could explain as much, Jack entered the room looking far more like a Jackie and Claire had to fight every single instinct within her, all of which were screaming at her to laugh. Hysterically so, in fact.

Instead, to her credit, Claire managed to only give her son a sympathetic look at the predicament he'd described. "Jack," she suggested, although only after he'd finished threatening Lucifer. What? She wasn't going to interrupt her son when he was laying down the rules. If anything, he was most likely to explain them fairly and most accurately. She wasn't about to discourage that. Which was a fact made obvious when, instead of correcting him, and pointing out he was speaking to an adult in such a way, she instead continued with an even, "Go ahead and go wash up, if you want, honey. Then you can play until dinner is ready." Meri and Gabi, of course, would be helping to set the table and do whatever else she and Dean could come up with, in the interim. They hadn't cleaned up the mess upstairs, after all. Not that Claire had confirmation, yet, that Jack had done so either, but she knew her son.

Then, her attention turned back to Lucifer. "Speaking of dessert," she tacked on a thoughtfully questioned, "I know you don't have to eat, but do you want to at dinner time?" Before she could say more, Meri's head appeared from around the doorway of the new room and she announced, matter-of-factly, "Say yes. If you don't eat dinner, you don't get dessert. You really want dessert cause Jack's right. Mom makes the best ones ever."

Then she was gone again, and Claire sighed softly before sending Lucifer a bemused look. "Last chance to change your mind and run, screaming, from the house. No one would really blame you, if you did," she half-joked.

It was a mixture of amusement and sympathy and greeted Jack's appearance, impressed that Meri and Gabi managed to get him to agree to something like that even as he was wholly unsurprised at the same time. It hurt, thinking back on the number of things Michael had actually bowed to under the combined pressure from him and Gabriel. Still. They'd never managed something this brilliant. Holding his tongue had been difficult, but Lucifer had managed it, smiling politely to Jack until he left to join his sisters, snapping his fingers a moment later to give the boy a bit of a reprieve by putting him into normal clothes.

"Naaah. I'm tougher than I look," Lucifer said with a bit of a chuckle. "Besides, it's fascinating seeing the dynamic from the outside. You can't really examine all the angles when you're the one stuck in the middle of it. You know?" Lucifer said before chuckling quietly. "You don't really think the little one will try and set me on fire. Right? I am pretty cute and cuddly in my own right. I could give Gabe a run for his money in the adoration department. Possibly. It never hurts to try and win over some extra love. Positive opinions will help if Sammy ever shows up again."

Not that Lucifer expected Sam to be all buddy-buddy with him, but it would be nice. He was a good guy. They could have a lot of fun together if he'd only just loosen up a bit.

Claire snorted softly when Lucifer asked about Gabi. "Let me put it this way," she said, having a pretty good idea how to put what he'd done into perspective, if only a bit. "If you had made something and someone else came along, and changed it, even a little bit, how do you think Meri would take it? And what do you think she'd do to the person who did it?" Arching a brow with a pointed expression on her face, she tacked on, "And honestly, I'm not sure that anything is going to ever convince Sam to trust you. In fact, if he does show up, I'm pretty sure he's going to end up trying to perform an exorcism on Dean for at least half of the things that he's okay with here that Sam won't get."

What? She loved Sam, she did. He was family. However, he also was pretty judgemental of others. Granted, Dean was too, but he had chilled out quite a bit in the past few years of being in Colligo. Unless the Sam that showed up was the same one who had been here with Ruby, before, Claire wasn't going to hold her breath that he would take things quite in stride as his older brother now did.

Speaking of. The sound of the Impala rumbling up the driveway echoed, muffled, through the garage door. Claire smiled at Lucifer and held up her hand, slowly counting down from five silently. By the time she'd reached one, she pointed her finger at the doorway to where the kids were playing... and sure enough, Meri came dashing out of the room at that exact same instant.

"Daddy's home!" she announced gleefully. Making a beeline for the door that led to the garage, she began excitedly hopping up and down from foot to foot, waiting for her father to finally come inside. Claire grinned and shook her head, looking back to Lucifer.

"And so it begins."

Lucifer thought about what was being said, really thought about it, and he realized that she was right. Meri would probably shoot the person, at the very least, and since Gabi probably didn't have access to a firearm yet, holy oil and a lighter would have to be the next best thing. Mentally wincing, Lucifer shifted in his seat as he made a note to do his best not to be flippant about his baby brother around that one. He loved Gabriel to death, after all, and the majority of what he did, even when it came off oddly cruel, was out of that love, but it was probably better to play it safe around the kid until she realized that.

"Sammy really needs to relax," Lucifer said, leaning back in his chair. "I mean, I know I nearly drove him out of his gourd for awhile there, but I think we really started to connect. I could be good for him and visa versa. And really, if you'd asked me to put down money on the one of the boys to eventually figure out how to live with the things they're supposed to be killing, my money wouldn't have been on Dean, so... Maybe there's hope for Sam yet if he returns?"

Lucifer liked to think that, at least. He'd hoped, before, some small twisted part of him, that he might have been able to persuade both the boys to his side eventually. Because he did like them, even as much as he'd thrown in their way and hurt them, there had been an appeal in the pair, but now, well, now, he was just happy that there was some semblance of trust developing.

Even if he was the one switching sides this time.

As Meri dashed out of the room, Lucifer turned his gaze to follow her, a hint of amusement on his features that only doubled the second that Gabi dashed after her squealing, "Wait for meeeeeeee!" all the way. So it begins, indeed. Lucifer just hoped he was right about him having the toughness to deal with this.

"I can help, too!" He called after a moment, grinning at Claire and offering her a wink before moving to follow the girls.
