WHO: Martha Smith-Jones and Owen Harper
WHAT: Dealing with their new abilities
WHEN: Saturday, November 17th. Not too long after midnight
WHERE: Outside the clinic
RATING: PG-13 for possible violence
STATUS: In Progress

Martha stood outside the Clinic, hands in the pockets of her jacket as she waited for Owen. They had made plans to go for coffee after their shifts. Martha had tried making plans with Jack and Owen to go out drinking not too long ago, but with the last event that Asaph had thrown at them, it had gotten pushed to the back burner, but she fully intended to see those plans through soon. For now though, coffee with Owen was the next best thing. Sure, she probably should have gone home and gotten some sleep before she had to be back at the Clinic later in the day, but ever since she'd traveled with The Doctor, Martha's sleep schedule had been thrown off and a normal sleep schedule had continued to elude her once she'd become involved with Unit and Freelance work with Mickey. Now, working at the Clinic, she was still on an odd schedule, so she was used to getting only a few hours of sleep between shifts. It was just one of the sacrifices she had to make to be a doctor and it helped that she enjoyed her job, so it never felt like a chore or a burden. Of course that didn't mean that Martha didn't take full advantage of her days off and sleep a little longer.

Pulling a hand from her pocket, she glanced at her watch then back at the door of the clinic, wondering what was taking Owen so long. She had yet to actually take a look at The Network and wasn't aware that something new was going on, so the possibility that whatever was going on was what was keeping Owen didn't even cross her mind. She wasn't worried that he would forget about their plans and assumed that he was finishing up some paperwork and would be along any moment. Adjusting her scarf, she leaned back against the building and continued to wait.

Owen had felt odd. Since the tick over onto their midnight shift and the call to wrap things up for the evening, his gums had started to itch in a way that they never had before. He'd always really be lax in oral hygiene, but there was something about the way that it persisted that made him wonder if something were wrong. And it had only gotten worse as he'd gone through the supplies, counting and making sure everything was still in good stock. In fact, he'd lingered so long in front of the freeze where they kept the blood donations that by the time he'd snapped out of it, he realized that he had probably kept Martha waiting for nearly ten minutes. Closing the door and trying to shake off the feeling that was building in him, Owen turned and grabbed his jacket as he headed out the front.

"Sorry about that!" He declared as he popped out the door, pulling on his coat as he went and flashed her a smile despite the continued itch in his gums. "Must have spaced out when I was doing the supply check," He said as he stepped in next to her and playfully offered her his arm. "Now, I think I promised you a drink," He said, looking up at her for a lingering moment, briefly fixated on a pounding sound that rose in his ears before he worked to try and block it out. "Shall we?"

Martha glanced up at Owen's voice and smiled despite the twinge of annoyance that crept up, which made her want to roll her eyes, but she resisted. That was odd. It wasn't that big a deal that he was a few minutes late. Everyone got caught up now and then; especially Doctors. "Yes, we shall." She took his arm as they began walking, "So, what took you so long? Was there an emergency that the great Dr. Harper was needed for?" She teased, glancing sidelong at him as she smirked. She had enjoyed spending time with Owen when she'd briefly worked with Torchwood and had been glad to find him in Colligo when she'd been brought there. She didn't have many friends there, partly because of her long hours at the Clinic, so the fact that there were others from her reality and other Companions that could relate to her made it all easier to deal with being away from Mickey. Mickey and her family really were the only things that she really missed about home. She'd spent all that time traveling with The Doctor that at one point The TARDIS felt more like home than London did.

"So where shall we go?" It wasn't as if there really was an option, because they tended to frequent the diner closest to the Clinic, but she asked every time regardless.
