Who: Darcy Lewis and Pepper Potts
What: Morning coffee
When: Friday, July 6th. Morning
Where: Break Room at City Hall
Status: In Progress

"Come on, coffee machine. Snap to it," If it weren't for the fact that the coffee in the breakroom at City Hall was so good, Darcy would have stopped at a cafe on her way to work, but honestly, the City Hall coffee trumped all other coffees she'd ever drank and she had no idea what made it so good. It wasn't like it was a special brand or that anyone did anything special to it, but somehow it was just awesome. Grabbing a mug from the shelf above the coffeemaker, Darcy couldn't help but smirk as the mug reminded her of Thor's enthusiasm when he'd first had coffee and if she were honest, it would never not make her laugh. After all, the looks on the faces of the other patrons in the diner had been hilarious and she had been greatly amused even if Jane and Erik hadn't been.

As the coffeemaker finally beeped, Darcy gave a little whoop and poured the steaming liquid into the mug then went to the fridge to decide on which creamer to add today. "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe..." she said as he pointed at each of the various flavored creamers in the fridge before finally choosing one and adding it and quite a bit of sugar to her coffee. She mixed it until she was satisfied with the color and then brought it to her lips and took a sip, savoring the taste and warmth. The wait had certainly been worth it.

Taking over Pepper's position as Mycroft's assistant was the last thing Darcy would expect, but if it happened she would be honored that Pepper thought she was capable of stepping into her shoes; not literally of course, because Pepper's shoes just weren't Dracy's style. Like Pepper, Darcy was also worried about Clint and wished that there was something she could do to help him. She wasn't surprised that they'd hit it off practically right away and while she thought he was attractive and wouldn't pass up the chase to oggle him a little, she knew that he thought of her as a younger sister and that was fine with her.

"Coffee or Irish coffee?" Darcy smirked as she stepped away from the counter and went to join Pepper at the table, "If I worked for Tony, I'd probably have a flask hidden about my person. "How do you not have any grey hairs after working for him?" Narrowing her eyes at the basket on the table, she eyed the pastries before choosing one and shook her head, "Not really. Probably poking whatever bruises Jason winds up with after this fight club thing to try and make him admit that it actually hurts."

"Coffee," Pepper said with a small smile. "Tony drank enough for the both of us. Someone had to keep a level head." She smiled. "And it wasn't so bad working for him. He was one of my closest friend, he still is really, and he's a good guy once you get to know him. Yes he drove me crazy and he definitely scared the hell out of me more than once, but...there's a reason he does what he does. He wants to help people. He's...Tony's a lot better than people think he is. You just have to get past the asshole exterior to see it." That was what people had never understood. People only saw the playboy exterior. Pepper knew Tony better than anyone, and she cared about him a lot. She'd always known he was a good guy, even when no one else did.

She laughed when Darcy said she'd be poking at Jason's bruises. "Sounds like you have a little experience yourself," she said, "when it comes to looking after guys who are a handful."

"The asshole exterior doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've known guys worse than him, so all I have to do is call him out or go along with whatever he's say and we're right as rain. However, that doesn't mean I'd be able to work for him," Darcy took a bite of her danish and wiped her hands on a nearby napkin before taking another sip of her coffee, which was slowly cooling off, but by now Darcy didn't mind. Only the first few sips needed to be steaming hot. She was one of those people who would still drink coffee even if it became lukewarm.

Darxy laughed at Pepper's comment and shook her head, "Jason isn't that difficult to look after. And he's been useful at times too. I mean he took care of Chucky when he was trying to slice and dice me, which would have put a real damper on my day. He just needs to learn when to admit that he's in pain otherwise I'm just going to keep poking." When she'd first found out who her roommate was upon arriving in Colligo, Darcy hadn't been sure what to make of Jason, but the fact that they were both outspoken and didn't really care what anyone else thought about them made them perfect roommates.

"I think you'd be better at it than you think," Pepper assured her with a smile. "Tony would like you. You have a lot of personality. That's a good thing. It means you could keep up with him. And it would never be boring, but he wouldn't expect you to keep up with him on the science. Besides, if he got difficult, you could just tase him." She grinned, then finished off her coffee. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that Darcy really would be a good fit as Tony's assistant so long as she didn't enable him too much. If she wasn't an invaluable asset as Pepper's unofficial assistant at City Hall, she might have suggested it seriously.

"Oh sweetie," Pepper said, "he's a man. They never admit that. If you're waiting for him to actually own up to it when he's in pain, you're going to be waiting a long time." Hell, Tony had hidden the fact that he was dying from her. She still hadn't quite forgiven him for that stunt. She was pretty sure he'd scared a few years off her life with that one. "It's good though, that you two are making it work. I never would have done well with a roommate I didn't know. I just had Tony, which is a whole different hassle, then Lucy, who was a good friend, and now Mycroft."

Darcy's brows rose as she chewed on another piece of danish, "You think so?" She asked after she'd swallowed and wiped her fingers, "I guess if I can live with Jason then I could handle just about anyone." It was nice to know that Pepper thought so highly of her. She didn't think that there were many people out there who had what it took to deal with Tony Stark and knowing that Pepper thought that she was one of those people brightened her day a little. After all, everyone loved compliments, didn't they? And that was a big one, "Although, I'd still keep a flask with me."

Oh Darcy knew that getting Jason to admit that he was in pain was probably a bigger task than making sure Tony didn't accidently kill himself, but she had fun trying to get him to crack and he let her, so it was a win win situation, "Yeah, Asaph's roommate matching skills were pretty good in our case. I mean, I don't think I would have been able to live with anyone who was shy and timid. I wouldn't know how to act around them. With Jason I don't really have to think about whether or not something I do or say is going to offend him, because he's the exact same way."

Pepper smiled kindly, getting up and refilling her coffee cup. She always needed two good cups to start her day. "I wouldn't have said it if I didn't think so," she told the younger woman. And it was true. Darcy was smart and competent and didn't take any crap from anyone. Those were all qualities someone needed when dealing with Tony. "Though honestly, I'd leave the flask and just keep your taser. It's better for keeping him in line." She paused. "Not that we'd ever let you go here. You're the best assistant I could ever hope to find." For all that people thought that Pepper was a flawless assistant who kept everything going through the power of her competence, she still needed help now and then, and Darcy was very good at helping her.

"I don't know about that," Pepper told her. "Jane seemed quiet enough, and you got along with her just fine. But it certainly is easier when you're living with someone whose personality meshes well with yours." That's how it had been with Lucy, and now with Mycroft, both of them similarly sensible and no-nonsense. She still missed Lucy most days, having become accustomed to having a close female friend after years of never really connecting to other women, but she was starting to think of Darcy as a friend, which was nice. "It's the same way with me and Mycroft, though that situation is a bit different." And that was all she would say on the subject. She had no intention of discussing her relationship with one of Mycroft's subordinates. It would be unprofessional and inappropriate.

She hadn't thought about tasing Tony, which was odd since the possibility of having to use her taser on someone was generally always somewhere in her train of thought, "Now that would definitely be more entertaining...not for Tony of course, but for me, it would be." Darcy's smile brightened at the added compliments and she couldn't help but beam a little bit. Darcy enjoyed compliments, especially when they had to do with her work ethics, because so often people simply assumed that she was lazy or wasn't cut out for a specific job based solely on her appearance and personality. She truly enjoyed proving them wrong.

She took another sip of her coffe and realizing it was almost empty, simply downed the rest of it before nodding, "Yeah, Jane and I got along alright, but I don't think that I could ever live with her." Although she had, had some friends who were girls, Darcy was the type who got along better with guys. "I bet it is." Darcy smirked, but said no more. Even she knew which comments she shouldn't press on and when it came to the relationship between her boss and Pepper, she knew enough not to ask questions there; at least not unless Pepper offered up information.
