Who: Peter Pevensie and Katniss Everdeen
Where: The stables
When: Wednesday, July 4th. Afternoon
What: Katniss needs a job, Peter offered her one
Status: In progress

Considering he was English and they weren't even on Earth, Peter had no plans to partake in any of the July Fourth festivities and instead was at the stables, where he'd spent the majority of his time since classes had ended at the Mansion and Edmund had been sent home. There were still times when he couldn't quite believe that at seventeen he owned his own business and he missed working with Charlie, but Jennsen had been a great help, as had Percy. It was almost ironic that the demi-god could understand the horses, considering Peter used to be able to communicate with horses back in Narnia, but here the horses were just horses and didn't talk. But not being able to communicate with the horses using words didn't stop Peter from being able to know what they wanted, simply from having spent so much time around them in Narnia.

Sitting in the front office, where Susan had worked during her time in Colligo, Peter was going over a few different papers when he heard the door open and looked up to see who was coming in. They didn't have any lessons scheduled for today, so he wasn't expecting anyone, but if was possible that it was Jennsen or Percy.

As Katniss didn't even know what the Fourth of July was, she didn't have any plans. So she'd decided to stop by the stables and see if Peter was around. While Katniss really didn't have any experiences with horses, Peter did offer her a job, and she needed one badly. She didn't know if he'd be out celebrating, but she figured that it would be worth a try to at least stop in and take him up on his offer.

Katniss made her way into the stables, noticing Peter in the front office. She walked over to the office, peering her head in the door. "Peter?" She asked, stepping in the office. "It's Katniss. I was wondering...if you aren't busy, maybe we could talk about that job you offered me here?"

While he had hoped that Katniss would come down to the stables, Peter hadn't expected her to come down today, not that he minded. In fact, it would give him something to do besides stare at paperwork, "Hello. Come in." Standing up, Peter moved out from behind the counter and crossed the room to where Katniss was by the door, "It's nice to meet you, Katniss." Technically Peter had met the previous Katniss during the bodyswap when he and Peeta had swapped, but he wasn't sure if telling her that at the moment would make her uncomfortable or not, so he decided not to bring it up just yet, "I'm certainly not too busy to talk. Would you like a tour while we talk?" He'd been sitting around for much too long and needed to walk around for a little while.

"It's nice to meet you too, Peter." Katniss said, stepping in the office completely. "I'd like that. The tour and talking. I really appreciate the offer. I've never had a job before, and I'm not overly familiar with horses, like I said, but I'm a fast learner."

"Follow me then," Peter led Katniss through another door, which led into the stables. Their horses were on one end of the stables while a couple empty stalls were on the other end with he exception of Blackjack, Percy's Pegasus taking up residence in one of them, "I'd never had a job before this either. Unless you count being King as a job, which I suppose it sort of was. Other than that though, I'd never had an actual job."

He led Katniss past the rows of stalls where the horses were, stopping in front of one of them, "This one was my brother's favorite. He reminded him of the horse he had back h...in Narnia." Having lived in three very different places, Peter honestly wasn't sure which one felt more like home anymore.

Katniss followed Percy, looking around at the stables. She had never seen anything like it before. "I wouldn't really count being a tribute as a job," she said, her tone bitter. "Or the Mockingjay. I certainly didn't get paid."

Katniss paused in front of the stall, just staring at the horse. She didn't make any moves towards him, not wanting to startle the animal. "I see," she said. "Is your brother still here, in Colligo?"

Peter didn't actually know much about Katniss' life before she'd come to Colligo, but having been in Peeta's body for awhile the last time they'd both been in Colligo, he had learned about the Hunger Games and how Peeta had wound up with an artificial leg. "I know what you mean. You don't exactly receive a paycheck when you're King." Of course they'd had gold and all sorts of other things in Narnia, but nothing like if he'd grown up in Finchley.

As Katniss asked about Edmund, Peter shook his head, "No. He was sent back not too long ago. Two or three months ago." He missed sparring with Ed on the roof of their building and he hated how quiet the apartment was now and he'd hardly seen Max except for the few times she's stopped by the stables for a quick hello. "Do you have any siblings?"

"Being forced to fight to the death brings 'honor and glory to the victor', but they don't exactly compensate for everyone who gets killed in the process." Katniss' tone was bitter and hard. Sure, Peter didn't know anything about her, but the games were a hard memory for her to revisit.

"I'm sorry," she said. She was quiet for a moment. "I did. My little sister, Prim."

"That doesn't sound the least bit enjoyable." Peter shook his head as he ran a hand through his hair, "I feel that I should be honest with you; I don't know if anyone told you that you and Peeta were here previously, but when you were, I met you when Peeta and I swapped bodies. So, I know about the Hunger Games, but that is about it as far as what I know about the two of you. I hope you're not upset that I didn't inform you before." Peter would completely understand if she was offended and decided to leave, but he'd felt, thanks to the truth compulsion, that it was the right thing to do, to tell her.

"No. There's really nothing enjoyable about it." Katniss paused. She'd heard about people being in the city before they were sent back home, only to come back again, but she didn't think that her and Peeta would ever be one of them. "Were...we happy? Peeta and me? Was he okay? Or was that all really knew, just that we were in the Hunger Games?"

Peter crossed his arms over his chest as he contemplated how to answer Katniss' question, "Well, he appeared to have some mental problems, but other than that, you seemed happy, from what I saw. You were very worried about him when we switched bodies." He told her, not sure if what he was saying would help or not. "That's about all I really knew about either of you back then." Peter watched Katniss, waiting for her response, unsure of exactly how she was going to react.
