WHO: The (Tenth) Doctor and Rose Tyler
WHAT: A Reunion
WHEN: Afternoon of the 18th
WHERE: Her House
RATING: Low probably
STATUS: In Progress

Meeting up with the Doctor last night had helped calm her slightly. It wasn't that she didn't want to see the Doctor, the one that had just arrived, she just needed to see him when she was feeling less like an emotional wreck. He had helped her feel better about it all and now she just really wanted to see him. It had been so long since she last looked at his face and although she would never, ever forget him she worried that it could actually happen. That he'd forget her too. He had so many faces lodged in his mind that one or two were bound to slip away.

She could be one of them.

She was curled up on the couch with Jason slowly wandering across the little mat she had left bowls of food on. The tortoise wasn't exactly an Earth one but it wasn't too alien. It still ate the same things it was just better suited to staing indoors and walking along the carpets rather than having grass so close by. She was just waiting for him to arrive and then she would see how things were. She just hoped he was happy to see her.

She was so glad he held her back and it was going to take some time for her to pull away. She had missed being in his arms so much and hoped that she would have the chance to experience them for much longer today. But she also knew they could not hang about outside like this so she pulled herself away. Even though it really did pain her to no longer be in his arms. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she gave him a huge grin

"Hello Doctor."

Yes it was all she could come out with right now but she would manage better soon. For now she was far too happy to see him to really care about conversation. He knew what she wanted to say even without her opening her mouth and she looked forward to having that bond again.

"Come in. Please." She knew he wouldn't say no but she had to make sure he realised how much she wanted him there.

In his usual style, he simply stood there for a moment. It was almost impossible to believe he was here, with Rose. Still, when he took a moment to think about it, it wasn't that unusual at all. She was Rose and that said...well...that said a lot. Even The Doctor wasn't quite sure what it meant but, clearly, it meant something.

"Hello." He spoke softly. "Rose Tyler." And as soon as he said her name, his expression lit up like Christmas; not just the tree, but the whole joyousness of Christmas itself. Of course he'd follow her inside, taking a look around at just where it was she was living.

His face lighting up was enough to make her own do so. It had been some time since she felt this happy and she was grasping that chance with everything she had. She shut the door behind him and watched his face as he looked around. She wondered if he'd ever remember anything but she had a feeling he wouldn't. Possibly Jason, since Jason was in the TARDIS, but that as about it.

"It's not much," she said with a shrug. "But it's as close to a home I can get I suppose."

And it would be closer to a home now that he was here. Sighing softly, happily, she stepped closer. She wanted to hug him or hold his hand, just some sort of contact.

"I'm so happy you're back."

"What do you mean it's not much!?" He balked at her. "'Course it is! Look at you. You've got a flat. A proper flat, with pictures.." His voice never stopped as he both looked and moved about the room. "You got stuff and things, all those bits and baubles you use to make a place feel like home. And you've got a Tortoise! - wait hang on, why do you have a tortoise? Mind you, love a good tortoise - Animalia, Chordata, Reptilia, Testudines, Cryptodira, Testudinoidea, Testudinidae - closest thing you've really ever had to a dinosaur - well, I say closest but you've also got corcodilia, but they're all nasty and teeth - no fun at all. A tortoise however, well, that's just brilliant. Safe. Slow moving and it won't it your other house pets - well, unless they're plants."

His babbling was nothing out of the usual as his eyes surveyed the room. There were pictures everywhere. Pictures of Jack and Ianto, pictures of Rose and someone he didn't recognize, pictures of Rose and..himself. That gave him pause for a moment, his dark eyes staring into the photographs, things he couldn't remember, things he knew he hadn't done. His hands tightened into fists for a moment as he imagined how those other hims must have felt to her, and how, to lose them all again was wholly unfair. Whoever had done this, had just given him one more reason to be angry - and that was never, ever, a good idea.

The Doctor, however, would say nothing about this at all. Instead, he'd simply continue to look around the room. "You've got a fireplace!" He exclaimed before bounding over to it like a child on Christmas morning. "Wait. Hold on. This one isn't another time window, is it? Please, please, tell me it's not another time window. That would be the very, very, last thing I'd need - and you've got couches - love a good couch - always thought the TARDIS should have had couches - she never agreed." And, just like it was his house, The Doctor flopped down into one of them and kicked his feet up on the coffee table. It might have been rude, but it was something he'd always wanted to do.

"Yup. Needs couches."

"He's called Jason," she told him once he stopped babbling on about whatever it was he was babbling about. She was just happy to hear him talk even if it was a load of nonsense that she didn't understand. Wasn't all that different to how things used to be. "I found him in the TARDIS last time you were here. We kept him as a pet."

She wondered if he realised what she meant by 'we'. That they had been in a relationship, well the type of relationship that they could be in since he 'didn't do domestic'. She sighed and looked down, arms wrapping protectively over herself. She hated starting from the beginning.

"At least if it was a time window there'd be something to do," she said with a shrug. "But it's not."

She didn't care that he just made himself comfortable since it meant he was relaxed around her. She had been feeling that teenage embarrassment and worry afresh recently. How she had felt when she first met him. So unsure.

"I'm sure you have some somewhere." She didn't move closer again, waiting for any signs that she should. It was strange how being stuck here for three years, and losing him again, had removed her bravery in some ways.

"We? What do you mean we? You and me - you and I - we?" The Doctor naturally assumed that was what she meant, but was in no rush to believe it. With a bit of luck she was talking about the older him, the one who'd regenerated. He could, at the very least, take comfort in that. Still, with all the pictures of him around, that really didn't seem very likely.

"Yes you and me," she said quietly. "But that doesn't matter. You don't remember it and things are different."

She wasn't going to make him do anything. She loved him, god did she love him, but she knew what he was like. She was incredibly lucky to get through to him last time. He wasn't a big fan of settling and things like that and she would be stupid to assume it could happen twice. That she could be that lucky.

"Me, me?" He asked again, even though he honestly knew the answer. Of course it was him. Who else would it have been? Where else would he have stayed, regardless of when he'd been taken from, if Rose had been here? It was, really, the only sensible outcome. Still, that meant that none of his earlier versions, which he already understood had been this him, had a TARDIS either. The Doctor found that rather troubling - even more since he knew they existed.

"Yeah.." His voice trailed off softly as he looked to her with eyes filled with lifetimes of apologies. "'Course it was me. Living together. In a flat. Like we talked about." Even if he'd been staunchly against the idea at the time.

"Rose.." He said quietly. "I can't stay here. I can't. Not here, with you here, but here, in this place, at all. It's wrong and there's a very, very good man who is depending on me to get back. His name is Wilfred. Wilfred Mott." He wasn't even sure if this Rose had met Donna yet, so he didn't elaborate on that at all. "Even if everything I could ever want is right here.." Which was almost exactly how he was starting to see it. "I can't stay. I will find a way to leave, to get everyone back to where they're supposed to be...and you know what that means.." He was going to be honest with her and saw no other choice about it.

"I'll spend as much time with you as I can while I'm here, but I need you to understand. It can't last forever."

The look on his face told the truth. Telling her that nearly crushed his hearts.

"Yes you you." His next regeneration was a bit too wrapped up in the likes of River to see her often never mind be in a relationship with her. And that didn't bother her too much, the relationship part, since she felt far more connected to the one before her. Though not seeing him didn't help her worries about him forgetting her one day.

"And if you go back you'll not be you soon," she said softly. She wouldn't let him get her upset, she refused. And yet she already felt her heart sink. It ached so much and she wanted to be alone and just pretend it all wasn't happening.

God she wished she wasn't so weak anymore.

"Of course. It never could."

"I know." He replied softly.

The Doctor had already accepted everything. If he went back, if he saved Wilf, he'd die. Maybe not die, die, like he'd thought at first, but he'd still regenerate and that was close enough. That felt almost exactly like dying, or so he imagined, and it was nothing he was in a rush to go through. The Doctor knew, no matter what, it would happen though. It had to happen. He couldn't change it.

He looked up at her with his eyes rife with sadness, before moving up from the couch and over to her and reaching out to gently lay a hand on her cheek. "It'll always be forever." He explained, as best he could. "You've written yourself through all of time. I'll never forget who you are, or what you've done. Ever. The whole universe owes you a silent debt for who you are.." Which was entirely true. "I just can't stay. I can't. No matter how bad I want to, I have to go back.."

He wouldn't finish the sentence as he doubted either of them wanted to hear it.

She hadn't expected him to move to her and when he did her eyes automatically lifted to his. But his touch to her cheek made her eyes close as she took in the feeling to her memory just in case he was taken away from her again soon. She wouldn't put it past the bastard in charge of this place to let her be happy for a short while and then take him away once again.

"I know. You could never stay in one place."

But it still really hurt that he wanted to go despite them having a chance to spend even a little time together. He just seemed so eager, like she once was. She'd been here long enough that she had no choice but to accept that she was stuck. See what awaited her.

It didn't look good.

"Least of all right now. You know I can't let a good man die, not if I can help it - and I know you wouldn't want me too either." He replied, about his inability to stay in one place. it was the long and short of it too. He was The Doctor and she was Rose Tyler. They did what was right together, no matter what, and that was always the hard part. The Doctor just looked down at her with a sad expression, his hand still lingering on her cheek.

"Even Time Lord's don't get forever." He said softly. "We just have to make the most of what we have." It was the only thing he could think to say that would provide either of them with comfort.

"I might argue if it means losing you," she admitted. Part of her wouldn't want an innocent man dead but if the Doctor took Wilf's place then she would rather he didn't save him. It was selfish but she couldn't help but think that way. She loved him too much to be willing to accept his sacrifice. He may go on to survive but that didn't matter right now. He may be able to regenerate and technically be the same man but she would still have to lose the one she loved with everything she had and when she did he would become a man who barely saw her.

"But your time here will be a blip to you." His time with her. One day he'd look back and wonder just what was so special about her.
