Who: Spike and Buffy Summers
What: Spike has some explaining to do...again
When: Backdated to Tuesday, March 27th. Evening.
Where: Buffy's apartment
Rating: PG probably
Status: In Progress

Spike knew that he shouldn't take his frustrations out on Buffy, but after losing her so many times, Spike wasn't sure he could handle it again if he got close to her only to have Asaph send her back again. He didn't know what it was about Buffy that caused their Almighty Host to constantly bring her to Colligo, only to send her back shortly after, but it had already happened at least three times in the almost year that he had been there and he couldn't handle it if it happened again. He didn't know how many more times he could have this same conversation either. Despite knowing that Buffy deserved an explaination as to why he never contacted her after being resurected, Spike was getting tired of reciting the same old story; he was starting to think that maybe he should just write it all down like Caroline had with the Mega Explaination post for Colligo Newbies. Either way, he had a lot of explaining to do whether he wanted to or not and deep down, he knew that he couldn't stay away from Buffy for long if she was in the same city.

Reaching her building, Spike let himself in and headed up to her floor, reminding himself, as he reached her door, that despite the fact that the last couple of months had been some of the best of his life, this was a new Buffy and the slate was pretty much wiped clean again.

"I did tell you that we went to Italy, didn't I? We were told that you were there with a man known as The Immortal who, in the past, has screwed over both Angel and myself." Ok, so that was an understatement, but knowing that Buffy hadn't really been there and that it was one of her decoys, well it didn't make Spike hate The Immortal any less. "I like to think that, had we not wound up fighting a horde of demons in an attempt to prevent LA from being plunged into Hell, then I would have decided to come after you." He tilted his head and smirked, "White horse and all."

Spike watched as she glanced towards the window then stood, knowing she must have been pretty confused, and pulled her to her feet, "It's a surprise." He led her towards the door, then out into the hall towards the elevator. He knew what her reaction would be, because this was Buffy and it wasn't as if her reaction was going to be different once she realized that he was attempting to take her outside. Reaching the elevator, he pressed the up button and waited for the doors to open before pulling her inside and pressing the button for the top floor.

"You told me that, but a girl likes to be chased. A lot." The white horse would be a nice touch, even if she had given up romantic fantasies that never fit her life. Princesses weren't slayers, knights weren't vampires. She would still take the white horse.

She had no idea where they were going and seemed a little concerned at the direction the elevator took. "You really don't need to scald yourself to prove anything to me. It wasn't so much fun the first time around."

"You never much cared when I chased you before." Spike knew that things had been different then; he hadn't had a soul and Buffy hadn't trusted him, thinking that he only said he loved her to try and get close and ultimately kill her, which had never been the case when if she had driven him crazy and sometimes he had thought it'd be easier if she wasn't around, but he could never actually bring himself to do anything about it, because in the end, he loved her.

As the elevator door opened on the top floor, he led her towards the door that led to the roof and glanced over his shoulder at her, but he didn't say anything; instead, he let go of her hand, opened the door and started up the stairs, knowing that Buffy's curiosity would cause her to follow him.

"You just don't know that I did notice, and I did care." Maybe there was a time when she didn't, but there was a mutual need. There was always a reason that she wouldn't kill him.

Her hand swept for his but she missed as he headed up the stairs. "Spike, are you sure this is a good idea. I'm starting to have flashbacks." She remembered sitting on a bus, thinking about him and then looking into the crater later. Giles was talking about Cleveland, but she had wanted a normal life. Now she could only follow him and hope he knew what he was doing.

"Could have fooled me," He wasn't the least bit upset or bitter over the way anything had happened back in Sunnydale, because he knew why she had been so very reluctant to believe him when he'd continuously told her that he loved her, but he couldn't pass up the opportunity to tease her just a little. It had been weeks since he'd last seen her and even though she wasn't exactly the same, she was still Buffy. Still his Buffy whether she knew it yet or not.

Reaching the top of the stairs, Spike turned around to face her and placed his hand on the doorknob, "Do you trust me?" He knew that probably sounded extremely corny, but it was a serious question.

Buffy rolled her eyes. He was right, kind of. There were times when she didn't want to be chased, and times where she felt guilty about Spike, but used him, and times where - it didn't matter now. He had died a champion and she had felt it deeply. That mattered. Who cared how it started?

When they reached the door, she stopped just behind him, pulling him back a little. The question took her off guard. "Why wouldn't I trust a champion?" She didn't want to watch him burn again. This place was weird. Maybe it had done something like that. "Do it."

Spike smirked at her and reached out to run his fingertips along her cheek before turning back towards the door and pushing it open, the early morning sunlight illumitating the stairwell as Spike stepped out onto the roof and took in the view of the rising sun before turning back to face Buffy, one brow quirking and his arms spreading out at his sides, "Surprise." Despite the fact that he hated when Buffy was sent home then brought back with no memory of being there, he couldn't help but get a little bit of a thrill when he got to show her that he could go out into the sun now without going all dusty.

He had told her that he loved her many times before, and she had not let that feeling in. Their relationship was unhealthy, he couldn't really love her, name the reason. She wasn't even sure if she had meant it before his death, but she had meant it after even if she hadn't said it out loud. If they started again, they would be on a different path. She opened her eyes to see him in the sun.

"No, Spi - ." She grabbed for him reflexively but he was out there already. She started to smile, realizing that he wasn't becoming the human torch.

"Oh my God, look at you." She walked towards him, putting an arm around his waist. "That's it, now we can go tanning together."
