WHO: Emma & Ruby Winchester.
WHAT: Exploring the city. Yes, during a zombie invasion.
WHEN: A bit during, then after, this.
WHERE: Downtown area.
RATING: TBD. Possibly a bit high due to violence and various other things of that nature.
STATUS: In Progress

Emma didn't know what was going on but she didn't like it. One minute she had been facing off with her dad and his giant of a brother, the next she had been transported to some crazy city where neither of them knew who she was or were even willing to consider that she might be telling the truth about her parentage. And okay, so she was pretty sure that she was a few seconds away from being shot and killed in that hotel room, but that didn't mean she had to happy she was pulled away before it could happen. She was a warrior, after all. Or, at least, she was supposed to be one. The point was, warriors didn't run away from their problems. They faced them, back straight and unafraid no matter what the outcome. Only, she hadn't done that. She had instead failed in her task and, now, had been robbed of the death she deserved because of that failure thanks to the meddling of some kind of entity with power that was completely off the charts.

So now here she was, stuck in some city she didn't belong in, separated from her people and unsure if she was supposed to keep trying to kill her father or not, since technically she'd made the attempt and had failed. Would killing him now redeem her or would it just anger the others, if they found out she'd effectively cheated death for what amounted to a do-over? Honestly, Emma didn't have any clue and wasn't about to start guessing. Instead, she decided, she was going to learn more about the city of Colligo. And maybe kill a few zombies while she was at it. Mostly because it helped to blow off some steam and, well, if they were dumb enough to try and attack her she figured they deserved whatever they had coming to them.

Making her way down the street, it didn't take long for the walking dead to notice her. A couple of them gave her a wide berth - Emma could only assume either they realized she wasn't quite human or decided she wasn't a tasty enough snack - but a few others made their way toward her with a slow, rambling gait that really made her wonder how they were expected to survive at all. Because seriously. When a snail could outrun you? Your odds of catching things to eat dropped pretty significantly.

Which wasn't here nor there, she told herself as she rolled her eyes in annoyance and punched one of the rotting, reanimated corpses. The sound of crunching cartilage and the squish of meat against her hand brought a faint smile to her lips. Her eyes flashed red, momentarily, before she regained her composure and drew her knife. "I think," she commented to no one in particular because the zombies sure weren't listening, "that this might be the best idea I've had yet." And then she charged forward, slicing, stabbing, and punching the creatures with a twisted sort of delight that she knew would probably get her killed on the spot if her father, his brother, or anyone who knew them were to see.

Sam would kill her, knowing that she was out in the middle of a zombie invasion by herself. So would Jade. And more than likely, Claire. Though in all honesty, they weren't as likely to kill her more than they were just likely to stare sternly at her and question what in the hell she was thinking at the time.

And normally, she would have waited until Sam and Caden had gotten home, and then just sent Sam out to the store, but she wanted pickles sooo badly, and so did the demon-spawn currently growing in her. And, unlike Jade, while her baby was growing at a faster rate than that of a normal human baby, Ruby could still see her feet and walk at a decent pace to where she wasn't waddling. That much, anyway. Also, part in not being human, while she was a little tired and lazy, and really bizarre cravings, she still felt like she was able to do things, even though she knew that she couldn't go absolutely nuts, because she didn't want to endanger the safety of the baby.

Nevertheless, Ruby made sure to try and avoid the zombies as she made her way to the store, and manage to do a pretty good time of it...until she started to head back. She'd been doing a pretty good job of avoiding zombies until she found herself walking right into a group of them, and a girl who seemed to be single-handedly fighting them off on her own. And doing a pretty damn good job of it. Taking a second look, Ruby recognized her as Emma, the girl from the network claiming to be Dean's daughter.

Though if she really was Dean's daughter, Ruby wasn't going to say anything. That was between her and Dean, not her. Ruby had responded to her post not to jump on her, but because she could understand being in a new place right and people jumping on you about something, or acting not how you expected them too could be overwhelming.

Ruby stayed out of the way, mostly not to endanger herself. But of course, that didn't stop her from stabbing the nearest zombie in the head that came at her and tried to munch on her brains. She shoved the offending zombie aside, sending him into the wall.

"Don't you know better than not to anger a pregnant woman?" She asked, sneering a little.

Thanks to the distraction of the zombies, it took Emma a second to realize that someone else was present for the fight. It took her a second after that to realize it was the woman who had identified herself as Ruby over the network. Had it been anyone else from that conversation, Emma might have very well attacked them right along with the zombies. She figured she could always claim she was just caught up in the heat of the moment, afterward. However, Ruby had been nice to her and as understanding as was really possible given the situation. Not to mention, Emma realized with a quick second-glance, she was also pregnant.

Now, there were a lot of things that Amazons were willing to do to ensure their survival. Manipulating men into conceiving a child then killing them once they'd served their purpose was really just the tip of the iceberg. But if there was one thing that her tribe had taught her, it was that you didn't harm a pregnant woman. It simply wasn't done. The life of a pregnant woman, and that of an unborn child - even one that wasn't part of the tribe - was sacred. So even if Ruby had been downright horrible to her before, Emma wouldn't have attacked her. And, now that she knew the woman was pregnant, Emma was going to do what it took to keep her safe.

Except, a few seconds and a dead zombie later, Emma realized that Ruby didn't exactly need any help in protecting herself. And if the amount of force behind the shove she'd given the zombie was anything to go by, she also wasn't human. Which was surprising and confusing, and really beside the point at the moment because there were still a few zombies left that needed to be dealt with.

Forcing the thought from her mind for the time being, Emma re-focused on the task at hand. Easily decapitating one approaching zombie with her knife, she spun on her heel and grabbed another one by the throat, lifting him off the ground with ease and squeezing until the bones in his neck shattered. Dropping him to the ground, she stomped on his head without so much as a second thought, ensuring he was dead and turning her attention to the three remaining members of the horde.

"You know," she said casually as she cast a quick glance in Ruby's direction, "I might not be very close with my father or his brother." She backhanded one of the zombies, sending him crashing a good twenty feet away. She looked toward Ruby once more. "But even I know that neither of them would probably approve of you being out here, in this condition."

Ruby managed a sheepish grin at Emma. "You're probably right," she said, stabbing one of the last of the zombies in the head, and shoving him into a wall. "But what can I say? I really wanted pickles." She held up her bag which contained a jar of pickles, and several other items that she'd obtained on her trip to the grocery store. "And if either of them asks, I didn't manage to come across any zombies whatsoever."

Ruby was silent for a couple of minutes, lingering off to the side as she watched Emma fight. There was something about her...something that made Ruby tell that Emma was definitely not human. Normal human girls wouldn't be able to throw about zombies like she could. In fact, normal human girls Emma's age would probably be curled up, crying in a little ball somewhere. No. Not Emma. Because Ruby could tell that she'd been trained, at least to some degree. She fought like someone who had. A warrior. Ruby could admire that type of quality in someone, the quality to stand up and fight something head on.

Ruby just stood off to the side, avoiding contact with any zombies, watching Emma fight.

"I'm not trying to be rude," she said when Emma had disposed the last of the creatures. "But you...aren't entirely human. Are you?" Anyone else might have said it with some tone of disgust. But not Ruby. She had said it calmly, matter-of-factly, with an even tone in her voice. "Again not trying to be rude. Because you see..." Ruby's eyes flashed black briefly, before going back to their normal brown. "Neither am I."

And there was the question that Emma had known was coming sooner or later. Honestly, she felt a touch of relief once it had been asked. That relief, though, quickly turned to mild confusion at the lack of judgment in Ruby's tone, then to downright shock when the other woman revealed that she, too, wasn't exactly human either. Head cocked slightly to the side, Emma was silent for a long moment as she let her emotions settle a bit. Finally, seeing no reason not to simply be honest, she shrugged ever so slightly and straightened up.

Then her eyes flashed red, revealing her true form, and she responded lightly with, "No, I'm not entirely human." Eyes once again returning to how she preferred to look, she studied Ruby for a moment longer before speaking again. "I'm... surprised," she admitted, not quite sure how else to put it. "Hunters are supposed to kill creatures like us. That's what my tribe said. But..." Her forehead furrowed slightly in confusion. "You're married to one."

Realizing how that last bit sounded, she quickly tacked on, "Which is fine, of course. It's none of my business and I'm not judging. I just..." She paused. "I really wasn't expecting this."

"The first thing you need to know about this place - nothing's like what it is back home," Ruby said. "It's true, hunters normally do kill creatures like us, because we're 'evil, bad, horrible things that need to be stopped'. And back where I'm from, a hunter did kill me, because of what I did, what I am. That hunter was Dean, actually. And his brother - my husband - held me still so he could stab me with my own knife. And yes, you'd think that once I got here, I'd want to kill them both for what they did to me. And a part of me did. But then I realized that here, I didn't have to have anything to do with them. So for awhile, I didn't. I got settled, made a life here, formed new friendships that I would have never been able to at home."

Pause.

"One thing you have to understand, is that Sam and I, back home had a...complicated relationship. It was my duty, my assigned task to get him to tap into his powers and free Lucifer from his cage, starting the Apocalypse. And as it was considered a great honor among demons, it was a task that I gladly accepted. And at the time, I had no problems manipulating him to get him to do what he was destined to do. But over time...I felt myself developing feelings for him, and questioning my task. But in the end, I still betrayed him. Because it was what I had to do. And I was killed for it. So naturally, when I came here, I kept my distance from Sam and his brother, and anyone connected to them."

"But that changed over time. After I'd been in the city for a little while, Sam and I reunited. We kept things simply between us, at first, but eventually, Dean found out. And honestly? I thought he was going to kill me again. But he surprised me by giving me a chance, and told me he decided that he was going to accept his brother's relationship with me. It's weird, as yes, Dean and Sam are hunters, and should both want to kill me, but like I've said several times already, this place allows for you to do what you want to do, not what someone else wants you to. That's one of the good things about being somewhere where what you've done in the past...doesn't really matter. You're allowed to make your own choices, not bound to anyone you might have been before. Sam and I? We would have never gotten this far back home. We would have never been able to get married, have a family, a life together, because it wouldn't be allowed, back home. But here? We can be whatever we want to be."

Ruby paused again, smiling at her.

"And so can you, Emma. I know, I've said a lot, and it's a lot to take in, but you don't have to be what your tribe wanted you to be. You can just be Emma, and whoever you decide she is."

Emma listened closely as Ruby spoke and, by the end of it, still found she wasn't sure quite what to think. It all seemed so surreal and she didn't know if this whole second chance idea was a good thing or bad. Brow furrowed slightly in thought, her gaze went down to the knife she'd been given by her tribe when she'd been sent off to perform her blood ritual. This was the weapon she was supposed to use to kill her father. It had been given her to in an ancient ceremony, handed over by women who had done their part to earn the right to wield it. It meant something, far more than she could put into words, and yet instead of using it to finish the task she'd been given, she had instead used it to slaughter a bunch of zombies.

"This is all I've ever known." The words were spoken so softly, they were little more than a whisper. She raised her gaze back to Ruby, confusion shining in her eyes. "My duty is supposed to be to my tribe, to making sure we survive and continue to flourish. I... I don't know how to do anything else."

Which wasn't to say she couldn't learn but, if she was being perfectly honest, she wasn't entire certain she wanted to change things. Sure, there had always been some small part of her that had resisted what she was being taught. Something inside of her that fought against the brutality she was expected to commit. But, in the end, she had made herself do what she had to do because that was all she knew. The thought of actually running away like she had tried to convince her father she was doing? That terrified her more than the thought of dying ever did.

With a soft sigh, Emma put away her knife. "I know they won't ever accept me," she finally stated, deciding she had to make up her mind one way or another. "My father and the others, I mean. And I don't really blame them, I guess. I'm not sure I'd accept me either, if I were in their shoes." Her gaze cut over to the zombies she and Ruby had just killed, taking in the sight of the massacre without so much as a twitch.

"But..." She looked back to the demon in front of her, squaring her shoulders as she finally made up her mind on the best way to move forward for the time being. "I'm not going to go after him again. Not here. Even if I got lucky and succeeded, there just isn't any point."
