Who: The Doctor, Mary Lampion, Mickey the Mogwai, and a Gremlin or two.
What: Snakes on a plane Gremlins on a TARDIS.
Where: The TARDIS.
When: Early evening.
Rating: PG at most. There's a kid involved.
Status: In progress.
This whole situation was really rather frustrating really. Gremlins were mucking about with things and upsetting people and the Doctor really didn't like it. He was doing what he could to help, but he knew that this wouldn't really end until Asaph decided it was time for it to end. That was the way things worked in this city and for someone like the Doctor, who wanted to help and make a difference and save the day, that was quite upsetting. If he hadn't died so early in the Toclafane invasion the year before, he would have been tearing his hair out by the end of it. Not being able to really help wasn't something he was good at accepting.
But he had worked out how to turn a Gremlin into a Mogwai, resulting in the tiny creature driving a toy car around the console wearing its own little bowtie, and Mary had managed to shove several of the little creatures into a version of Colligo that was always sunny everywhere, which was rather remarkable. He couldn't help but continually be impressed with her and the things she could do. And that worried him a bit. He was getting quite attached to the girl, and that could only spell trouble. As much as he liked having people around, he genuinely wasn't good for them. And Mary seemed to feel safe with him, which was so much worse. He was terrible at keeping people safe. He'd seen that time and again. But Mary evoked feeling in him that few managed and he was glad to have her around.
Especially now, when River was off helping people, both local and not, and shooting Gremlins. He would have been lonely, even with Mickey's company, so he was glad for the girl's presence. Of course he might have been more glad if there weren't three Gremlins running around in his TARDIS. He couldn't, for the life of him, figure out how they'd got in. He was sure when River returned she would point out something he'd forgotten to do and make him feel stupid, but he could worry about that later. For now he had to keep the creatures from running amok in his TARDIS and keep his tiny charge safe.
"Mary," he said, trying to find a setting on his screwdriver that would work on the things, "could you please pass this to Mickey? He can use it to help." He handed the girl a much smaller screwdriver with his free hand. A Mogwai-sized screwdriver, in fact. "I could make you one too if you like. You're clever enough to use it...for a human anyway." He really needed to stop with the 'for a human' thing. He was meeting more and more humans who impressed him with their cleverness. Fiddling some more with his own screwdriver, he found a frequency that made the Gremlin closest to him wince and slap its hands over its ears. Well, that was progress.
