Who: Peter and Molly
What: Showing his face now the weather's got colder.
Where: (Up a tree) In the park.
When: Saturday lunchtime.
Rating: Low, probably,
Status: Incomplete

Peter had been living in the wood at the back of the park, having found a natural cradle created by the branches of one of the trees. But it was getting cold, colder than it had been in their part of Neverland, and he'd started to sneak out a bit more often, to find food and see what was going on. Of course, the city itself was loud and confusing, but Peter'd found if he perched on one of the trees near the railings he could watch the comings and goings without being seen. And that was where Peter was today, although now suddenly the leaves were falling, leaving his position exposed to anyone who happened to look up.

He just wanted to go home. The need to get back to where he was in charge of everything and comfortable was dragging the young boy's mood right down, and his flying abilities had started to suffer because of it. So he wasn't as high as he wanted to be, but instead close enough to notice whoever happened to walk underneath his perch. And perhaps catch them with a foot if he happened to be swinging his legs. Right now, however, Peter was absently peeling the bark from the trunk with his knife, his young jaw set in an expression of concentration.

Molly looked up at the boy, giggling at the look of pure and utter fascination on her dinosaur's face. "Just going for a walk," she responded. "Old Lace and I normally come here every to play and run around. What're you doing?" It looked like fun. She hadn't climbed any trees in awhile, but climbing trees was normally fun.

Molly pondered for a couple of minutes, trying to remember the boy's name. "You're Peter, right? You wanted to try and go home?"

"Nothing," Peter replied automatically. Looking at the girl, she seemed a tiny bit younger than he was. But then Peter had been twelve for years and years and years - he didn't know how old he'd be if he'd stayed any more. But it would be really old. He scratched at the side of his nose then stepped off the tree branch, landing lightly on the balls of his feet on the grass.

"Yeah," he agreed. "And you're Molly." He ignored the question about wanting to go home - Peter didn't like to admit when any of his plans hadn't quite gone right, and with the stars being all in the wrong places going home had turned out to be harder than he'd anticipated. Still, he was determined and confident enough to believe whole-heartedly he'd get back eventually. Being kidnapped wasn't as much fun as it sounded when you were on your own, after all.

He ducked down a bit to look at the dinosaur. "Why'd you call him Old Lace?" Peter asked.

"She," Molly said, when he referred to her dinosaur as a he. "Her name is Old Lace. She used to belong to my friend, Gert. She named her after an old movie, Arsenic and Old Lace. We gave ourselves superhero names after we ran away from our parents. Gert was Arsenic, Old Lace was Old Lace, Nico was Sister Grimm, Chase was Talkback, and I was Princess Powerful." She paused. That seemed like such a long time ago, when they found out that their parents where supervillains.

"So...uh yeah," Molly said when she realized that she was being silent and awkward. "She used to belong to my friend, Gert. But she's mine now."

Peter had crouched down to look at the animal in question, reaching out slowly to touch her back and completely unperturbed by the moment of awkward silence. Peter had never felt awkward in his life. He glanced up at Molly, shaking away the hair that was threatening to fall into his eyes. “You ran away?” he asked, a new note of respect entering his voice. “Where’d you go?”

He’d been operating under the assumption that most of the kids here was a bit useless, hidden away in their houses with the adults. Sure, it was cold living out in the park, and sometimes he went hungry if he couldn’t catch or steal anything, but at least there was no’one to tell him what to do and stop him playing and messing around all day.

"My friends and I found a cave that our parents used as an old secret hideaway and hid there," Molly said. "It was fun. No grown-ups to tell us what to do, and I didn't have to go to school. 'Course, I go to school now, and I live with a couple of grown-ups, but they pretty much let me do whatever I want. Most of the time."

She leaned on Old Lace a little. She missed her friends. She loved everyone she lived with at the Xavier Mansion, and thought of them as her new family that she'd gotten in Colligo, but didn't make up for the fact that she had a whole other set of family and friends back home that she sometimes give anything to see.

Peter was impressed. Not that Peter ever admitted to being impressed about anything unless it was something he’d done, or at least played a major part in. “I lived in a cave once,” he commented. “Me and the Lost boys were playing prisoners.” It had been a very long game – a few months, at least. They’d had to leave once the tide had come up and threatened to drown them all in their ‘prison’. Although it had all been very exciting.

“All grown ups are pirates,” Peter announced definitively. Then he paused for a moment to correct himself. “Or Indians. But they’re not all that fun either.” He couldn’t understand why anyone would want to go from living in a cave to moving back in with grown ups. Even if he’d known people here to take him in, he wouldn’t want it. No matter how cold or hungry he got sometimes. Speaking of… Peter cocked his head in Molly’s direction.

“You got anything to eat?” he asked hopefully.
