Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:ianto jones, jack harkness, river song, rory williams, rose tyler, the doctor (11), the master

Who: The Doctor, Jack, Rory Ianto, Melody, the Master and Rose. And a partridge in a pear tree. (This is also the posting order, obviously skipping Rose until she's healed.)
What: Rescuing Rose. Confronting Melody. Other things.
Where: The address Molly gave the Doctor and Jack.
When: Shortly after this.
Rating: Hard to say. Probably reasonably high.
Status: In progress.

It was a bit odd having so many blokes in the TARDIS. Normally there was at least one girl, and the Doctor briefly considered asking Molly if they could please borrow Caroline just to break things up...before deciding it was probably best not to bother his friend. He'd messed things up with her and he didn't imagine the way to fix it was to kidnap her best friend and put her in danger. No, that wouldn't go over well at all. "Well," he said quietly to the console, "at least I've got you, dear." He patted it absently, then turned to the others. Right. How to do this. Best not to have Jack or his husband, still a weird thing to think, dealing with the Master directly. Best also not to have him and Rory splitting their focus. Besides, this was pretty much how they had already planned things, so why was he even thinking about that? Right. Because this whole situation was utterly mental and he needed to pretend he was actually in control of things.

"Right then," he said, opening a compartment and pulling out a few syringes of blood. He kept one and gave one to Rory, before passing two each to Jack and Ianto. "You two are going to be focusing on getting Rose out, so you'll need those. But we'll be keeping some as well, just in case things go bad. And they probably will go bad." Because this wasn't his wife. This was a psychopath who had let him die and let Rory and Amy die and he couldn't let his emotions get the better of him. He just had to keep telling himself that. "So...you two...be careful. I know they can't kill you Jack, but that doesn't mean much really. Ianto...don't die. Just...get Rose out and bring her back here." He looked over at Rory. "This isn't River," he told him. "Just remember that, all right. Talking to her might not work. Probably won't, actually. But if anyone can pull it off, it's you." He paused a moment, then pulled Rory into a quick, awkward hug. "Just...you don't die either, all right. I'll be very cross with you if you do." He pulled some levers and released the brake, knowing a loud entrance wouldn't be on their side. He also set the TARDIS to cloak itself. River would be so proud if she could see him now.

"Right, dear," he said, speaking to the TARDIS and not caring a whit if anyone thought it was odd, "I'm gonna need to you to lock up tight while we're gone. Don't let anyone in who isn't me. Or Rory. Or Jack and Ianto." He tilted his head. "I know you like River, but it's not River right now, and she'll probably do very nasty things to you if she gets in. And we both know how you feel about Koschei. So...can you keep things locked tight while we're out." There was a moments silence, then a lever flipped and something dinged and the Doctor grinned. "Brilliant!" he said. "You are a sexy little thing, aren't you!" Right...he had company. He looked a little sheepish. "Um...yes...so...just need to land her, and..." He flipped a few more switches and twisted a few knobs and they settled silently. "Learned a few tricks since we last saw each other, Captain." Meaning River had schooled him. "So...it should be..." he fiddled with the Sonic, "that way." He pointed. "Shall we go then?"

Jack checked, double-checked, probably triple-and-more-checked that his gun was clearly accessible, his ammo ready if he unexpectedly needed to reload, and that his phone was very much on silent yet still on in case Molly had to update him. Oh, and that there was no chance of accidentally stabbing himself unnecessarily with Claire's blood.

Normally, he would have fun teasing the Doctor about how the TARDIS was getting talked about, or the way he hugged Rory, but Jack wasn't exactly in a humorous mood. And his mood really didn't need the reminder of how little his immortality mattered with this particular duo. He took a break from his fidgeting to reach for Ianto's hand and hold on tightly for reassurance.

"Yeah, Doctor, I see that--" he said, "or more like hear that." The TARDIS's looks were obviously a big change, but the quiet was completely different from anything he'd heard from her before. Maybe he'd ask about that sometime.

He'd memorized what he needed to know of Molly's blueprints, and inputted some of it into his wrist computer for good measure. And speaking of that... He hadn't brought it up before in case the Doctor decided to break it, but with Rose at stake, it needed to be known.

"Doctor... Back home, my Doctor, he kind of fixed my vortex manipulator. I can't be certain those two won't do anything to disrupt it, but if it's clear to use when Rose is healed enough for the transport, will I be able to get us right inside the TARDIS? Or aim further off, like Molly's?"

Rory wasn't exactly prepared for the hug. In fact not at all. Still, he felt a sense of relief on that part, giving something of an awkward grin as he patted at the other's back. It wasn't exactly the first time the Doctor had hugged him really, but still, somehow this time it meant a little more. Back then it had been between friends that hadn't seen each other in ages. And back then he'd been a little shell shocked too honestly, after what he'd seen. But with everything that had happened, and even more so what was happening right now, there was something a little more on both ways. And, well, as oblivious as Rory could be, he managed to get the message this time.

"Right. No dying. Got that on my check list." He gave a bit of a grin, still holding onto the injection of blood with the other hand before slipping it against a jacket pocket. Went again most everything of his nursing school, but talking down River was going to be a task, difficult, and waving around an injection of blood probably wasn't the best way to go about it.

As it was, if he were at all honest with himself, and he tried to be most of the time, he was going in this blind. He hadn't been explained almost any of this; not what was happening to River, not why she wasn't River, not much of anything. He'd only managed to catch scattered bits of the whole story, piecing it together as he went. But then, that was sort of Rory's life, in the TARDIS. Most of the time it was just run, pay attention, and try to keep up when the Doctor has the chance to explain. Right now he didn't and right now all that mattered was getting River to safety, back to normal, and helping Rose and anyone else that might be in danger.

So he balanced himself, steady, against the rail just to be safe, as the TARDIS took off. And. Actually sort of became impressed when it wasn't all shaking and grabbing on for life and whirring chaos as per usual. Rather than asking, one might say rather on an innocent jibe, if River had taught him a bit more in flying, he kept his mouth shut; his gaze flickering to Jack and Ianto's, trying to share a quick look, one of those sort of "see you on the other side" kind of looks as the ship finally landed in absolute silence. Rory's gaze met the Doctor's as he whipped out his screwdriver, listening to the plan. "Right." A breath, a nod of his head, "Let's do this."

He listened carefully as the Doctor outlined the plans of the mission, looking around at the new TARDIS, and the man he didn't know.

He took the syringes that the Doctor handed him, not sure how they would help or what they were meant to do, but he trusted the Doctor. He put one in his coat pocket on one side, one his trouser pocket on the other side. Hopefully prepared for anything. He offered a wan little smile. "Oh, don't worry. I'm harder to kill than I look."

He took Jack's hand, squeezing it softly. "Always," he pitched his voice too low for the others to hear. "I promised, and I meant it."

He ran over the plan in his head as they traveled, although he was sure it would probably be useless the minute they stepped outside.
