Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:freya, guinevere pendragon

Who: Gwen and Freya
What: Girl Talk? Finally going outside for air? Randomness.
When: Late morning
Where: Inside or Outside Building C
Rating: Low

Freya knew, not from talking about it, but by reading, that Guinevere was often feeling locked up inside and just enjoyed going out. After the past week or two of constant worry, and maybe a lot of fear, to leave the building, Freya was as ready to go outside as she had ever been.

There was always a chance Gwen wouldn't be at home, but Freya was willing to take her chances, knocking lightly on Gwen and Arthur's door.

A slight smile twitched at her lips when Freya mentioned Merlin gave it to her but the smile fell a little at the animal she brought out. It was clear just by looking at it that one day it would grow into potentially the most dangerous type of creature there is. But surely if Merlin was the one to give it to Freya it had to be safe.

"Where did he get it from?"

She knew this place liked to give people gifts on a whim but she wasn't aware that Merlin would want a dragon.

"He gave it life." Freya had known spells like that were possible, but even without the familiar pulse and tingle of her own, she would have been able to detect it wasn't quite normal, just by the markings. They were too perfect. Too evenly spaced and shaped to have occurred by natural means. "Isn't that brilliant? He has one as well."

"Yes, great."

In all honesty, Gwen still felt slightly strange around creatures of magic. She had accepted Merlin's magic because she knew him. She knew he meant well. But an animal she wasn't so sure about, even if Merlin was the one to bring it to life.

"When was this?"

"Oh. Uh. A week or so ago? When everyone was..." Freya trailed off. Gwen knew well enough how 'everyone' had been acting. And Gwen's less than enthusiastic response sent Afanen scurrying up her arm and wrapping around her neck, tail protective across her throat.

She floundered for a bit. Worried she'd gone and ruined the day before it started.

"It's a bit like having a small, fire-breathing dog. Or cat. He won't hurt you."

"Oh, right."

Gwen's eyes followed the dragon as it scurried up Freya's arm, biting her lip gently. She was a little worried that something could happen but Freya just seemed so at ease. Though as much as Gwen wanted to trust magic, sometimes the Camelot she grew up in stayed with her.

"You are sure?"

"Yes." She pronounced it with such frank and open intent, Freya almost blinked at the tone. She hadn't been aware this had mattered to her, until it suddenly did.

It mattered because as much as Gwen's reaction was ingrained and well-groomed by years of fear and uncertainty, Freya's were driven by a need to be accepted by people important to those important to her.

Gwen was one of Merlin's closest friends. She had accepted him. Freya only hoped she would accept her too.

"Did Merlin ever tell you?...About me?"

"Then if you are sure," she said quietly.

She would at least trust her in this, even if she still felt unsure. Freya didn't seem to want any harm to come on Gwen and Merlin wouldn't wish it on Freya. But she still didn't feel willing to go too close to the dragon just yet. Maybe later on in the time they spent together but just not yet.

"What about you?"

"Here, just- Afanen," she whispered, nudging the dragon with her cheek and gesturing with her arm closest to the bag. Time to disappear. She waited until he was fully away, curled into the warmth of her bag before she looked up.

"Anything?"

Gwen watched as the dragon disappeared back into the bag, brushing a few curls behind her ear before she walked a little. If they were going to go out they had to move from standing outside of her home and actually out of the building. When Freya continued to talk, Gwen simply shook her head.

"Bits and pieces, about how nice you are. Things like that." She didn't want to embarrass Merlin.
