WHO: Rose and the Doctor
WHAT: Rose tried to be helpful. That turned into an argument. That turned into two angry locals
WHEN: Just after her post
WHERE: The lake
STATUS: In Progress

This was the last time she tried to help a local. God, she helped a young boy by kicking his ball back to him and ended up with two locals, who didn't even seem to be with the boy, yelling at her for touching it. As if she had some sort of disease that she could pass on easily. Of course Rose wasn't the type to keep her annoyance quiet and after letting the locals know she had ended up being chased. Part of her had loved the thrill, if she was honest, of being chased but then there was the thought of getting a kicking that didn't really make this fun after a few moments.

She had managed to stop to catch her breath and search for help and when the Doctor, the human one, had responded she knew she would be safer running for him than hiding out here. Especially when she knew the two locals were getting closer and closer. So she arranged a meeting point and ran. She heard shouting not too long after and chanced a glance over her shoulder to see them hot on her trail. But she didn't stop running and soon she saw the Doctor running toward her.

"No time to stop!" she yelled when she got close enough, grabbing his hand and tugging him. "Come on."

"Keep quiet? Me?" The Doctor flashed Rose a cheeky grin, then mimed zipping his lips. Truth be told, he needed the break to catch his breath almost as much as she did. His single human heart was pounding in his chest, and he could feel the heady rush of adrenaline that was so very different in this part human body.

As the two of them stood there together, waiting to find out if the locals would catch them in their little hiding spot, he squeezed Rose's hand in encouragement. They were lucky, the two of them. He hoped this time would be one of those lucky times, because when they were unlucky, well, things had a tendency to go spectacularly wrong.

"Yes, you." Though she couldn't help it, she grinned at his grin. All versions of the Doctor she had met had the same way with her. Whenever they grinned, in happiness or cheekiness as he had just done, she couldn't help but mirror it. Plus she still had the joy of the run coursing through her.

Her eyes ducked to his hand in hers before she glanced back up at him. They probably shouldn't be holding hands, especially in an enclosed space, but given their current predicament there wasn't anything wrong with this. It was entirely innocent.

Holding hands was simply what they did, in the Doctor's mind. Why should there be any problem? They'd held hands when they were complete strangers, and through everything since, and he wasn't about to give that up simply because there was another him somewhere about who had built a life with Rose, a live that the Metacrisis Doctor wasn't a part of. He'd give his other self that time, no doubt; part of him felt as though his other self deserved it more than he did. He was not, however, going to caring about Rose, and he most certainly was not going to give up the running and the grinning and the holding of hands, especially when she happened to be in danger.

He waited, listening, trying to get control of his breathing again, and hoping that the locals had lost interest. He had absolutely no plan whatsoever if they hadn't. He didn't even have a sonic screwdriver. He'd have to go hands-free, like his fifth self, if anything went wrong.

She had missed this. The adrenalin pumping through her veins after being chased, hiding away from those who were after them. It took her back to their time travelling and she did feel rather nostalgic. She wouldn't mind going back to doing this daily.

Rose couldn't help but gasp when she heard footsteps getting closer, of course she took the liberty to make sure the Doctor would stay quiet. The hand not holding his had reached up to cover his mouth, her eyes focused on the end of the alleyway. She just had to hope they wouldn't look down and toward them. Of course for all they knew it could be someone completely different, a few people just walking through the street.

The hand over his mouth earned Rose an odd look from the Doctor. He knew better than to start talking the moment someone who might or might not want to do very bad things to them walked by! Nine hundred years of time and space, and he'd at least learned that lesson!

Gently, he reached up and removed her hand, somehow neglecting, in the process, to let go once his mouth was free.

She looked up at him when he took her hand from his mouth, grinning in a mixture of cheekiness and innocence at the look on his face. But then she pulled her gaze from him to check the alley again. The footsteps went by without trouble and she let go of the breath she had not realised she had a hold of.

"I missed this," she admitted with a soft laugh as she looked back to him. It didn't matter that it wasn't really him she had experienced all of the past running and hiding with, he had the memory.

"Me too." The Doctor kept his voice low, but he was grinning with delight and the heady rush of a narrow escape. He loved this, loved the running and the danger and the feel of Rose's hand in his as they skidded around corners and tucked themselves into hiding places to wait with baited breath to find out if this time, they were safe.

"It's weird," she admitted, "I had never known of this before I met you , all the running and the danger, and yet it's my whole life."

It really was. Being with the Doctor had become her life and she couldn't think much on before they had met. They had clicked so quickly and soon she had not wanted to leave him. She still didn't like the thought of leaving him one day.

That gave the Doctor pause. He didn't mind the running and the danger, but he certainly minded the idea of Rose in danger. Had he really made her entire life one of running away, as his had been?

No. No, he hadn't. Maybe, for a little while, he had, but he knew a little bit about what was to come, now, and the life he and Rose would have together after Colligo was a real life, the sort of life he should give her. The idea of that life kept him going, helped him to step aside when his other self stepped in

"Maybe not running all of the time," he said, "but every now and then ... Well, that is brilliant, yes.

"Most of the time. Running more than not, that's fun."

She didn't enjoy it at first, the first time he had ever grabbed her hand and pulled her behind him, just because she had been confused and scared. But not long later they had been running again and she had began to feel the enjoyment.
