Entry tags:charlie weasley, james howlett, peter pevensie

Who: Charlie Weasley, Peter Pevensie (Open to Logan/Ed?)
What: Horse recapture.
Where: The stables, and around the wooded area of the park.
When: After this.
Rating: TBD.

Charlie had apparated to the stables about three minutes after Pete had messaged him, Bessie curled over his shoulders. The young dragon's pearly scales had lost the pink pinkish tinge they had had in the first week of her life, and her nose had cleared. She was now, in Charlie's completely biased opinion, a remarkably gorgeous example of a pedigree Antipodean Opaleye. Although that didn't mean she wasn't bloody hard work most of the time.

Charlie and Peter had taken over the running of the stables after Uther and Ygraine Pendragon had been sent back, with both their names on the business documents. It was lucky that Peter had been a good bit older when they had gone through all that, because Charlie very much doubted they'd have allowed it otherwise. No matter how many years Pete had been ruling as a king in another timeline.

But that in turn made them the joint owners of the dozen horses that were used for rides and treks and occasionally for training and teaching - all activities that were open to both local and non-local people. So Charlie couldn't understand why the doors of the stalls were all open and all but two animals appeared to have bolted off into the wooded area that surrounded the teaching squares and the wooden buildings of the stables themselves. It was ridiculous. He had noticed the sudden unpleasantness directed towards them from the locals, but what did they have against them?

With a sigh, Charlie deposited Bessie into one of the empty stables, chucking her a few pieces of raw steak before pulling the door shut behind him and bolting her in securely. At least she wasn't old enough to breathe fire yet, or they'd have an entirely different problem on their hands. Turning, Charlie moved through the building, peering hopelessly into each of the ten empty stalls until he finally came across Peter. The young man was waiting just outside the main doorway. The second oldest Weasley sighed and dragged his hair through thick red hair as he approached, feeling it spring back once he let go.

"Any luck?"

"Logan," he introduced himself upon shaking hands. He immediately liked Charlie. The man had the air of someone who could take care of himself. The same went for Peter, despite his age. Logan took a moment for a closer look and decided there was something about the kid, something that said he'd seen a lot more than most teenagers.

"While you're waiting on your brother, I could get a head start," Logan offered. "See which trails I can pick up. I can tell you which ones are fresher and give you a general idea of which way to go." His superior sense of smell gave Logan an edge on most trackers. He didn't have to break his back staring at hoofprints to figure out how old they were when he could just test the air.

"You have some halters and ropes in case I get to some of the horses before you? A bucket of grain maybe, or that pelleted stuff, if that's what you're feeding these days. Doesn't matter as long as it makes dinner sounds." Although Logan couldn't remember where he'd learned to handle horses, he knew what he was doing, and like Charlie had said, it was the sort of thing that stuck with you, just like learning to ride a bike.

Charlie nodded vaguely as the plan started to take shape around him. "Sure," he replied, nodding at Peter and offering him a slightly crooked smile. "If you and Ed go off and try and get a few in. If you take enough tack with you you can probably lead a few. Any idea when Ed'll show?"

Then the redheaded man glanced around again as Logan spoke. For a mad moment, he couldn't help but wonder if Logan was a werewolf. Bill had always complained that his nose was a hell of a lot more sensitive since he'd got attacked, and Remus Lupin didn't seem to bad for it either. But then, Sirius Black could transform and kick most people to the dirt when it came to following trails, so he quickly disregarded his thought and turned his attention back to the task at hand. He didn't like to think of anyone spooking the horses - like all the animals Charlie worked with, he'd got quite attached to them all.

"Sounds great," he agreed. "If you could work out where the males have gone that'd be wicked. Especially the stallion. Worth a bloody fortune, that horse." He pulled his wand from the waistband of his jeans as he spoke, muttering a few words in latin under his breath and flicking it back towards the tack room. A moment later a couple of halters and a few stretches of leather rope untangled themselves and soared towards the little group stood in the dusty yard. Charlie left Logan or Peter to catch them, turning away to gather a pail and fill it with grain.

"I've got Bess is stall number six," he commented to the pair when he came back, handing the pail over to Logan. "So leave that empty until the end unless we want another bolting situation. I'll move her when we're putting the last horse in."
