Who: Ianto and Jenny.
What: Hanging out. Possibly flirting.
Where: Ianto's coffee shop.
When: Early evening.
Rating: TBD.
Status: In progress.

Ianto felt like he was finally settling in to life in Colligo. It was strange, considering how long he had been there, but even with Jack around he had never really settled. He had missed the purpose Torchwood gave him, and his life back in Cardiff. Even with the friendships he'd made in this place, Jenny in particular, he'd never really felt comfortable. In the wake of Jack's departure from the city, he'd felt even more off balance. But then he'd taken some of the savings he had, built off good investments, and put the money into a small coffee shop. It wasn't the same as the life he'd had before, but it was good. Peaceful. He liked coffee and he liked people, and it was just a good fit for him. He knew he could be happy doing this.

The new work kept him busy, but it was fulfilling in its own way. And it was especially nice on evenings like this, when the shop was fairly empty and he could visit with the blonde sitting by the window. He knew his friendship with Jenny was dangerous in it's own way, that the flirting they had could easily lead to other things, but he enjoyed her company. She was fun and witty and terribly charming. In some ways she was so much like Jack, but at the same time she was utterly different. He liked it. He liked her. And right now, he liked that he could step away from the counter and go over to her table with two cups of coffee. "I swear," he said with a small smile, "you study twice as hard as people who understand the subject half as well." He sat down across from her and set one of the cups in front of her. "I have to admire your work ethic. What is it tonight?"

Ianto would have been perfectly content to discuss Jenny's classes all evening. She was terribly clever, and he enjoyed hearing her opinions on the various subjects she studied. "Archaeology," he said with an amused smile. "That's the one where they run about being attacked by things, right? Or it is in Dr. Song's interpretations of the subject?" He was just teasing of course. He liked archaeology. The idea of it appealed to an archivist. Studying the past. Yes, he could definitely see the appeal of the subject. "I might have to sit in on a few of her classes sometime. Maybe I'll look into that next term." He enjoyed knowledge for the sake of knowledge, which was part of why he and Jenny got along as well as they did. The other part, of course, was the thrill they got from danger. It was strange to think that there had been a time when he hadn't understood that, had judged his coworkers for loving the rush so much.

The topic shifted from her work to his, and he smiled as he took a sip of his own coffee. "You have a good eye," he said easily, "or tongue in this case. It is new. I'm trying a couple different things, and I wanted to get your opinion. What do you think of it?" As much as he generally preferred his coffee simple and to the point, he also enjoyed experimenting with different kinds of coffee, finding new roasts and flavours for the shop. He reasoned it was part of why people kept coming back, rather than defaulting to corporate chains like Starbucks and the like. Still, he didn't want to focus solely on his own work either. Unfortunately, neither he nor Jenny were the most social of creatures in the generally accepted sense of the word, so he wasn't entirely sure what to say. He was quiet for a moment, then he spoke. "I was considering going to the small cinema on Elm that shows classic films this weekend," he said. "It's been a while, and I've always rather liked those sorts of places. Do you think you might like to come along? I know it's a lot of sitting in one place, but you never know...you might enjoy it."
